语法填空

Tony and I are good friends. We tried to walk across the United States of America. We're not exactly sure we were doing it. Part of it was to test ourselves; to see if we could face the challenges. When I was teenager I often daydreamed that I was going to walk across the United States I graduated from high school. , I didn't do that. Before I knew it I was in my thirties, married, (have) a job, yet still had this idea in my mind with each (pass) year. I figured I was too old and my opportunity had passed. Then, a few years ago, I met Tony, was in his thirties and quit his job as a civil engineer in New York City to walk across the United States. He wasn't doing it for a cause as part of an organization. He was doing it(simple) because he loved to walk and discover. The idea was back and I no longer had an excuse. We planned on averaging 20miles a day and taking some days off to rest, so we expected the walk to take about 6months realizing it could take (long). We were in no hurry: The total distance would have been about 3,100miles.

Crows(乌鸦) are remarkably intelligent birds. Now these feathered geniuses are given a job: Six crows have been trained to pick up rubbish in the Puy du Fou historical theme park in western France. Whenever the six crows put cigarette ends or other small {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (piece) of trash in a special container, it offers a treat to reward the crows {#blank#}2{#/blank#} their efforts.

The idea came from one of the park's employees, Christophe. In 2012, the theme park held a show during which the crows picked up roses and brought them to a “princess”. It was the show {#blank#}3{#/blank#} inspired him. Since then, six crows {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(raise) and trained to do the same with rubbish. The training system is similar to the one for testing crows' intelligence, {#blank#}5{#/blank#} a food dispenser(分发器) gives away a food reward when a crow {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (correct) performs a task. Christophe also introduced other species of birds to go through the training. {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (compare) with other birds, crows are much cleverer.

The purpose of {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (train) the crows is to educate the people to reflect on themselves. Since the birds are able to protect the environment, we need to care about it too. “It is {#blank#}9{#/blank#} funny way to remind people not {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(throw) the rubbish everywhere,” said Christophe.

阅读下面短文,在空白处填入 1个适当的单词或括号内单词的正确形式。

I won't call myself the most accomplished person when it comes to {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (hold) chopsticks. In fact, I'm pretty sure that my technique looks clumsy at times. I tend to hold {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (I) in the middle, more like beginner than expert.

Still, since I eat almost every meal with the eating utensil (器皿) of choice in China, it's not uncommon for a new friend or acquaintance to come to a simple {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (conclude) after observing me that my Chinese husband, Jun, must have shown me {#blank#}4{#/blank#} to use them before.

They are wrong. I've used chopsticks ever since I was a teenager, a time when my sister and mother were both fond of Chinese cuisine and introduced me {#blank#}5{#/blank#} many new dishes, along with the {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (prefer) utensils in China. We always kept bamboo chopsticks along with our {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (knife), forks and spoons, ready for whenever we happened to have Chinese food for dinner. It was my closest family {#blank#}8{#/blank#} observed my first mistakes I made in using chopsticks.

Plus, I lived over two years in China before Jun and I started dating and I {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (expect) to use chopsticks in almost every restaurant, stand and bar. Trust me, when you're hungry you figure out pretty fast what it takes to down (咽下) {#blank#}10{#/blank#} meal with these utensils.
