Can you build a robot that opens a door, picks things up, knocks things down or even scores a goal? Students on the robotics team at Discovery School in Oklahoma, US, have already done these things. They won the first place at the State Robotics Championship. In the competition, there were 66 teams from middle schools around the state. They got a box of Lego(乐高)pieces, wheels and motors. Besides building, the team also needed to program their robots. Each team had the same tasks to perform. So how did they score 564 out of 590, the best score? "We use Bluetooth, so we can download information from computer to robot, "said Hugo Reyna, an eighth-grader from the Discovery robotics team. For most teams, wires(电线)were the common tool they used to transfer(传输)information between computer and robot. But the Discovery team started researching Bluetooth transfers, a faster and more convenient way, about one year ago. Then they used the new technology in the competition. And it performed as well as the students hoped.
In one of the tasks, robots had to toss a ball into the goal. As the robots moved , lots of them tripped over(绊倒)the wires. But the Discovery team's robot was as flexible(灵活的)as a professional basketball player. It won the highest mark from the judges.
In the end, the team from Discovery received a certificate(证书)from Google, showing their achievements in robot technology.
Sending packets, shopping for everyday goods and even building a house, these are new skills that new robots show at the World Robot Exhibition.
