    "Nature does not hurry, yet everything is accomplished." — Lao Tzu

    If you are in a city where everyone rushes, realize that you don't have to be like everyone else. You can be different. You can walk instead of driving in rush hour traffic. Your environment doesn't control your life — you do. I'm not going to tell you how to give you a step-by-step guide to moving slower. {#blank#}1{#/blank#}.

    ⒈Do less.

    Cut back on your projects, on your task list, on how much you try to do each day. Focus not on quantity( 数量) but on quality(质量). {#blank#}2{#/blank#} Save smaller, routine tasks for later in the day, but give yourself time to focus.

    ⒉Have fewer meetings.

    {#blank#}3{#/blank#} And they eat into your day, forcing you to squeeze the things you really need to do into small windows, and making you rush.

    ⒊{#blank#}4{#/blank#}.

    When you do the some things with focus, without rush, there will be things that get pushed back, and that don't get done. And you need to ask yourself: how necessary are these things? What would happen if I stopped doing them?

    ⒋Practice mindfulness.

    Simply learn to live in the present, rather than things so much about future or the past. When you eat, fully appreciate your food. When you are with someone, be with them fully. When you are walking, appreciate your surroundings, no matter where you are.

    Try these things out. Life is better when unrushed. {#blank#}5{#/blank#}.

A. In other words, left-handers are born that way.

B. Left-handedness used to be regarded as a disability.

C. The unfavorable associations of the use of the left hand among cultures are varied.

D. Why do they prefer to use their left hand rather than their right hand for routine activities?

E. Why do some parents force their left-handed children to become right-handed when writing?

F. In Ghana, pointing, gesturing, giving or receiving items with the left hand is considered rude.

G. Fortunately, nowadays most societies and cultures no longer reject left-handedness like before.

Being Left-handed in a Right-handed World

    The world is designed for right-handed people, but why does a tenth of the population prefer the left? {#blank#}1{#/blank#}

    The answer to it remains a bit of a mystery. Since scientists have noticed that left-handedness tends to run in families, it's assumed that left-handedness has a genetic (基因的) component to it. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} In fact, identical twins, who share the same genes, can sometimes prefer to use different hands. There are also plenty of theories on what else might determine which hand you write with, but many experts believe that it's kind of random.

    Historically, the left side and left-handedness have been considered a negative thing by many cultures. {#blank#}3{#/blank#} In some areas, the left hand became known as the "unclean" hand. In many religions, the right hand of God is the favored hand. For example, Jesus sits at God's right side. God's left hand, however, is the hand of judgement. Various activities and experiences become rude or even signs of bad luck when the left hand becomes involved. In some parts of Scotland, it is considered bad luck to meet a left-handed person at the start of a journey. {#blank#}4{#/blank#} A person giving directions will put their left hand behind them and even physically try to point with their right hand if necessary. In some Asian countries, eating with the left hand is considered impolite.

    {#blank#}5{#/blank#} People come to realize that left-handedness is natural. People even noticed that many famous people are left-handed  including Benjamin Franklin, Leonardo Da Vinci, and Charlie Chaplin. Some researchers find out that lefties are more creative and can deal with abstract thinking better. The left-handedness is more easily adaptable to the right-handed world as well. Being left-handed is no longer a sad story now; instead, it is a wonderful gift or maybe it is something you should take pride in.

A. The law does permit an exception.

B. Or you could just wait until you are again, safely off the street.

C. you shouldn't be addicted to smart phones any more.

D. The city of Honolulu, Hawaii wants everyone to learn that lesson.

E. Other U.S. cities may follow Honolulu.

F. do not look at a screen when you cross the street or you could be fined

G. The answer is probably "No".

    Parents usually teach their children how to cross the street safely, by looking both ways for cars. But do they also teach them to put away their cell phones?

    {#blank#}1{#/blank#} Texting while crossing the street will soon be banned in the city. Beginning on October 24, you could be fined from $15 to $99 if you step into a Honolulu street while looking at your phone. Honolulu is the first major U.S. city to ban what is called "distracted walking". It recently passed a law in a seven to two vote. The law says: "No pedestrian shall cross a street or highway while viewing a mobile electronic device." In other words, {#blank#}2{#/blank#}

    The law's creators hope it will lower the number of people hit and killed by cars in the city. Mayor Kirk Caldwell told Reuters news agency, "We hold the unfortunate reputation of being a major city with more pedestrians being hit in crosswalks, particularly our seniors, than almost any other city in the country."

    The law includes all electronic devices with screens: cell phones, tablets, gaming devices, digital cameras and laptop computers. {#blank#}3{#/blank#} Pedestrians may use such devices in the street to call emergency services and rescue workers, such as firefighters and police officers.

    {#blank#}4{#/blank#} The state of Washington was the first to outlaw distracted driving back in 2007. Now, 46 other states as well as D.C., Puerto Rico, Guam and the U.S. Virgin Islands, have laws against texting while driving reports the GHSA.

    If you still want to text while walking, you could avoid being fined in Honolulu (and be safer, in general) by using a voice-controlled digital assistant such as Siri or Google Assistant. {#blank#}5{#/blank#}
