Since I came to my new neighbourhood，I have had the pleasure of meeting a few neighbours.They seem to be quite 1 people.For Christmas，I thought I would do something nice for each of the neighbours that I know.I sat down and 2 .There were nine neighbours，and I also knew which houses they lived in.

    However，I decided to3  one more person to my list，the lady I met every morning walking to work as I drove down the street.She always managed a sweet smile and a hearty wave（挥手），4 I had no idea which house she lived in.

    My gift idea was to make small 5 baskets and leave them on each of my neighbour's  front porches（门廊）the night of Chrismas Eve.I kept the last one for the friendly lady，since I was still not exactly sure where she lived 6 the house down about where I met her each morning.Finally I decided to put it there.My neighbours really enjoyed the baskets and a couple even came by to  7me.

    This morning on my way to work，I placed my mail in the mailbox and noticed a Thank You card.I opened it and read the 8 which really caught me by surprise.

    The card said，“Thank you for those lovely apples and strawberries you left on the porch of Tod.He 9 on January 19，but he never stopped talking about how nice it was that someone10  him in his time of illness.He really enjoyed it.”

    I was very11.I had no idea who Tod was or that he had been seriously12.I had left that nice lady's basket on Tod's porch by accident.I believe that Tod never expected to have that basket. I feel 13 that the nice lady did not get a basket from me this Christmas，but I believe that if she knew what had happened，she would 14me.

    I feel lucky to have helped Tod be more cheerful in his last days.This just makes me further believe that sometimes 15in life are beautiful.

    He Jiang，a postgraduate（研究生）in biology，will become the first Chinese student to give a speech in the commencement（毕业典礼） at Harvard University on May 26，2016．

    Given the highest honor by the university．He Jiang，who was born in a small village in Hunan province，said，"People in China often believe that it's useless to study and children from the countryside cannot be successful in the future．However，I cannot agree with them．Education can change a person's life．I hope my experience can encourage the students from the countryside to spare no effort in study and make their dream come true．"

    Different from many other families in the village，his parents never thought about finding a job in big cities and leaving their two sons at home without their care．His farther was strict about their studies．He and his younger brother studies at home while the other kids in the village played in the fields．Unlike his strict farther，his mother took her sons'side when her husband scolded the boys．She preferred to sit with her sons when they studied rather than chat with other women in the village．

    Getting the chance to speak at commencement is no accident．During his first days in Harvard，it was quite difficult for him to follow the professor in class and he was speechless in campus because of his poor English．Instead of giving up．He Jiang spent all his free time on English．He also make friends with natives to improve his speaking English．One year later，he had little difficulty in class and soon became one of the top students in his class．With the encouragement from Professor Diana Eck，He Jiang decided to apply（申请） for the chance to speak at the commencement．"Few Chinese students had applied before，but I wanted to have a try．I just want to realize my idea of letting more people hear the voice from China and telling them that China is not what it used to be．"said He Jiang．After beating three students from Harvard Kennedy School in the third and final round，He Jiang made it to get the chance to speak at the commencement．

    He Jiang will go to Massachusetts Institute of Technology after graduating from Harvard．

    Once a traveller came into a village which was suffering from hunger. The villagers asked him to leave, for they feared he wanted them to give him food. They told him that there was no food. The traveller explained that he didn't need any food and that, in fact, he was planning to make a soup to share with them instead. The villagers watched suspiciously as he built a fire and filled a pot with water With great ceremony(仪式), he pulled a stone from a bag, and dropped the stone into the pot of water. After a moment, he smelt the soup and shouted with excitement, “How delicious the soup is!” As the villagers began to show interest, he mentioned how good the soup would be with just a little cabbage in it. A villager brought out a cabbage to share. This episode(情节) repeated itself until the soup had cabbage, carrots, onions, and beets—indeed, a full pot of soup that could feed everyone in the village was ready. This story describes when there are not enough resources(资源), humans will store things. We do not want to share. The story of stone soup helps us realize that, in doing so, we often prevent ourselves and everyone else from having a feast(盛宴).The meaning of this story goes far beyond food. We keep to ourselves ideas, love, and energy, thinking we will be richer, but in fact we make the world, and ourselves, poorer. The traveller was able to see that the villagers were holding back, and he had the ability to inspire(激发) them to give. In this way, they created a large meal that none of them could have created alone. Are you like one of the villagers? If you come forward and share your gifts, you will inspire others to do the same. The reward is a feast that can feed many.

    Zhalong is a nature reserve in Heilongjiang in northeast China．It is one of the world's most important wetlands．The area provides food and shelter for wildlife．It is an ideal home for different kinds of plants，fish and birds．

    Many birds live comfortably in Zhalong Nature Reserve all year round，while some only stay for a short time．There are many fish in the wetlands，and the birds can easily catch them for food．Zhalong Nature Reserve is an important living area for the rare red-crowned cranes．There are not manyred-crowned cranes in the world．Some of them live in Zhalong．

    Some people want to change the wetlands to make more space for farms and buildings．This means that there will be less and less space for wildlife．

    More and more birds are in danger because they do not have enough living space．Many of them died．The Chinese government wants to protect these endangered birds，and they can be safe in Zhalong．

    Every year a lot of tourists go to Zhalong to watch birds．This year members of ourBird watching Club are going to study the different kinds of birds in Zhalongand the changes in their numbers．The study begins next month．

    We do a bird count once a year．We are now inviting secondary school students to help．We need more people to help us count and do something to help the birds．Many people do not understand the importance of the wetlands．We hope this information will help them understand and make them actively take action to protect wildlife．

    Different weather makes people feel different. It influences health, intelligence(智力) and feelings.

    In August, it is very hot and wet in the southern part of the United States. People there have heart trouble and other kinds of health problems during this month. In the Northeast and the Middle West, it is very hot at some times and very cold at other times. People in these states(州) have more heart trouble after the weather changes in February or March.

    The weather can also influence intelligence. For example, in a 1983 report by scientists, IQ(智商) of a group of students was very high when a very strong wind came, but after the strong wind, their IQ was 10% lower. The wind can help people have more intelligence. Very hot weather, on the other hand, can make it lower. Students in many schools of the United States often get worse on exams in the hot months of the year (July and August).

    Weather also has a strong influence on people's feelings. Winter may be a bad time for thin people. They usually feel cold during these months. They might feel unhappy during cold weather. But fat people may have a hard time in hot summer. At about 18℃, people become stronger.

    Low air pressure(气压) may make people forgetful(健忘). People leave more bags on buses and in shops on low-pressure days. People feel best at a temperature of about 18℃.

    Let's talk about Sherlock! You know who I mean, Sherlock Holmes of curse! I have very quickly learnt he is not just popular back in the UK, but is huge around the world. In my first lesson I asked the students (tell) me what they already knew about the UK.my surprise, most classes put Sherlock Holmes first. And I even have a studentEnglish name is Sherlock!

    But who is Sherlock Holmes? Sherlock Holmes is a character (create) by British doctor and writer Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. He first appeared in print in 1887, and (be) a part of popular culture for over a century. He has become (know) for his early use of deductive reasoning(演绎推理).
