As a mouse looked through a hole in the wall, he saw a farmer and his wife open a box. He found that inside it was a mousetrap (捕鼠器).
Going out of the house, the mouse shouted, "There is a mousetrap in the house!" The chicken said, "I can tell this is a big problem for1 , but it is nothing to me."
The pig said, "I am2 , but I won't do anything to help you." The cow said, " I'm sorry for you, but there's nothing I can do for you."
That very3 , they all heard the sound of the mousetrap working. In the dark, the farmer's wife did not see the trap caught a snake's tail. She reached her hand out for the mousetrap4 the snake bit (咬) her. She was taken to the5 and came back home with a fever (发烧).

There is a competition for photographers (摄影师) of wildlife in the Natural History Museum in London every year. This year, the competition had about 50,000 photos. These photos come from different parts of the world. They take us underwater, deep into the woods, and high above cities. All of them show different kinds of life on earth.
In the end, the great prize went to Laurent Ballesta. The French photographer won the prize for his photo of a horseshoe crab. In the photo, the horseshoe crab looks for food in the sea. Three little fish follow it closely. They may hope to eat what the horseshoe crab misses.
Horseshoe crabs are known as "living fossils (化石)". They have lived for at least 445 million years and stayed almost unchanged. They're now in great danger, however. What happened to them? In the 1960s, scientists found something surprising. The blue blood of horseshoe crabs can be used for scientific study. As a result, hundreds of thousands of them are caught each year.
For a long time, Ballesta took photos of horseshoe crabs in the sea. His winning photo took the judges (评委) by surprise. "To see a horseshoe crab so alive and well, in such a beautiful way, was fantastic," said one of them.

When you go to the park, you might find many older people listening to audiobooks (有声书) instead of reading paper books. Audiobooks have become quite popular these days. Why are more and more people choosing audiobooks over traditional books? Is listening to an audiobook just as good as reading a book?
Reading needs us to focus on the words in a book, and we also need to find time and a place to sit down and read. However, you can listen to audiobooks anytime and anywhere you like, and it gives your eyes a break, too.
But the big question is, do we get as much information from audiobooks as we do from paper books? Scientists did an experiment (实验) to find the answer. People in group one were asked to listen to an audiobook while people in group two read the same paper book. It turned out that people in group one remembered as much information as people in group two do. They remembered the same amount (量) of information, whether they listened to it or read it.
Another study from a scientific magazine further supported the result above. In the study, scientists studied people's brains when they listened to and read books. The result showed that listening to audiobooks activates (激活) almost the same parts of the brain as reading does.
However, some people still believe that they learn better from reading paper books. One reason might be that when we listen to audiobooks, we are often doing other things at the same time. "If you're trying to learn while doing two things, you're not going to learn as well," Daniel Willingham, a professor at the University of Virginia, told The New York Times.
I have been a writer for the school newspaper the Dagligtale, since my first day here at the University of Alberta. I probably won't work as a reporter after I finish university, but this doesn't mean my experience as a reporter has been useless. In fact, I have learned something important through this job.
I still remember my first news story. It was about the winning of the school baseball team. I came to the celebration and was told to do some interviews (采访). I was afraid. Talking to people I don't know was one of my worries. But I tried my best and did it. I talked to the students, the players and the team leader. It was something I had never dreamed of doing before. This experience made me believe in myself and helped me to improve my social skills (社交技能).
As a student reporter, I have learned to do research and to think carefully about what I read. Finding out the facts is important when you are writing for the school newspaper, but in the Information Age, this is also a useful skill in everyday life.
As a student reporter, I always know that I have a lot to learn. I'm never afraid of asking people for advice. I have learned how to use it to make improvements to myself.
To be a reporter is not easy, but I'm thankful that I have had the chance (机会) to try my hand at it. It has taught me to be a better storyteller, student and citizen. If you are ever given a chance to write for a school newspaper or magazine, take it and learn everything you can!

I have always been interested in the animal world. Recently, I read a book about animals called A Lion's Travelling. Chinese writer Shen Shixi wrote it.
The book tells the story of five lions. After they are made to leave their home, one is hurt by a giraffe. Another is killed by a hunter. The third one dies during a fight for water. The fourth lion dies in the river. Only the youngest one, named Red Ribbon, is still alive. After going through many difficulties, he finally becomes the lion king.
The story shows the love and care between friends, the life and death faced by brothers, the determination (决心) to deal with challenges. The fact that the young lion finally becomes the king teaches me a great lesson: Those experiences of going through difficulties will make us stronger. Everyone will face lots of difficulties during their lifetime. We should learn to stay strong and keep finding our better selves.
The book is full of something exciting about the life of lions. Together with lovely pictures, it gives readers a wonderful experience. If you want to read the great story and learn a lot about the animals in the real world, choose it!
