Everyone has a true friend in his life. Mary Allen was my best friend—like the I never had. We did everything together: piano lessons, movies, swimming, and horseback riding.

Passage 2 The Wonderful Wizard of Oz It is an interesting story about a girl named Dorothy, who is taken away from her home in a storm and finds herself in the Land of Oz. Dorothy, together with her companions the Tin Woodman who wants a heart, the Scarecrow who wants a brain and the Cowardly Lion who wants courage, journeys in search of the wizard, in order to return home. After facing many difficulties they successfully meet the Great Oz, who in fact is not a wizard. However, the old man gives the Scarecrow a brain made of pins and needles, the Tin Woodman a heart made of silk and filled with sawdust, and the Cowardly Lion a bottle of courage. In the end, Dorothy finally gets home to where her aunt and uncle live. They are very glad to see her safe and sound. The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, written by L. Frank Baum, is an enjoyable American classic .What I loved most were Dorothy's trustworthy friends, who were always there when Dorothy needed help. Kids love to run here, there and everywhere. But as we age, we seem to lose the enjoyment of running. This popular form of exercise, though, offers great benefits(好处) to everyone. It helps with weight control, and it 1 the effects of aging. It helps us relax and increases confidence. Running keeps the heart healthy and muscles and bones strong. It reduces the risk of heart disease. There are other benefits linked to running besides those related to（与…有关）2 You can run almost anywhere: you don't need a gym membership or expensive equipment. For that reason and others, running is a favorite form of exercise for many people.
If you want to run, how can you get started? It is not 3 to start exercising when you are not feeling well. If you haven't exercised in a while, you should check with your doctor. He or she will let you know if you're healthy enough to begin a new exercise routine. If your doctor says OK, you're ready to go!

Choose a good pair of running shoes. They don't need to be expensive; they just need to give your feet good support.

The Titanic was a very large British passenger ship. It hit an iceberg in the Atlantic ocean on its first journey in 1912 and sank. There were not enough lifeboats for all the passengers, and over 1, 500 passengers died.
The sinking of the Titanic is well known to most people. There was a awful sinking, but it is unknown to many people. It was the sinking of the Lusitania(卢西塔尼亚号). It was one of the biggest and most luxurious ocean liners of its time, but it sank on May 7, 1915.
After world war I broke out in 1914, ocean voyages(航行) became very dangerous. The German embassy(大使馆) in Washington w travelers about the dangers of ocean voyages. However, the Lusitania left New York for Liverpool anyway. There were 1, 959 people on board.
The Lusitania sailed s for the first five days. On May 7, 1915, the Lusitania was a to travel fast and make zigzagging(曲折) movements because of enemy's submarine(潜艇). However, because of heavy frog, the captain of the ship reduced its speed and traveled in s line. This made the ship an easy target, A German submarine fired at the Lusitania, and there was a big explosion(爆炸). Right after the first one, there was a second explosion. The ship sank in about 18 minutes. Over one thousand passengers died because of this disaster.
The c of the second explosion is still a mystery (迷). Later, divers found large amounts of bullets, shells, gold, and cash in the ship cargo (货物). But why would an ocean liner carry these i? The answer is yet to be explained.
"It's time to wake up, Emily," my mom sings from the kitchen. I pretended to open my eyes. Why didn't the alarm on my cell phone ring?
Soon, I realized it was April 8, the day for my program: "A day without technology." I didn't realize what I had gotten myself into until I was driving to school in my car. No radio blasting my favorite songs. I had to sing to myself.

Even though my attempt(尝试) at going about my day without these luxuries (奢侈品) was a failure, I realized that if I really tried, I would be completely successful without my addiction to technology.
These devices suddenly make my life easier, and I'm sure I wouldn't practice getting rid of them altogether, but I do believe the lives of today's teenagers would be dramatically different without our tech dependence.
