"What's the matter, mum?" As soon as I enter(进入) the door, I find that my mother is  1. It's unusual--she usually opens the door and welcomes me with 2.

    About five hundred years ago, an earthquake (地震) happened in a small village. Luckily for them, nothing was destroyed (毁坏) and no one was hurt. But a huge stone fell from a nearby mountain and stopped in the middle of the road.

    When the earthquake stopped, many people came to the road and saw the stone. Some of the strongest men tried to lift the stone out of the road. But they couldn't move it. They tried to push it but failed. They tried to pull it with ropes but nothing worked.

    "Well," they said sadly, "there's nothing we can do about it. We'll have to change the way."

    At this time a boy about 12 years old said, "I think I can help you to move the stone away.

    "You?" they shouted. "What are you talking about?" The men all laughed at the boy.?

    The next morning, some people came into the road. One of them shouted, "The stone is gone." More people ran out to see what had happened. It was true. The stone wasn't on the road any longer. It wasn't even near the road.

    The boy walked over to where the stone had been and said, "I buried it."

    The people looked rather surprised. "You see," he said, "I dug a deep hole next to the stone and I dug a small incline (斜坡) up to the stone and the stone rolled (滚) down into the hole itself. Then I covered it with earth."

    The villagers shouted, "Clever boy! Clever boy!" And some of them said, "Why didn't we think out this good idea?"

    First, I have many good eating habits. I like junk food, but I 2 eat it. I eat fruit and vegetables every day. 3 some of them are not very delicious, they are good for our health.

    Second, I do 4 every day. It is said that if people run every day, they will have more healthy hearts(心脏)than others. So every morning I get up early and I run 5 about thirty minutes before I have breakfast.

    One cold winter day a little girl and her father arrived in London. Sara Crewe was seven years old. She sat in the taxi next to her father and looked out of the window.

    "What are you thinking about, Sara?" Mr. Crewe asked. "You are very 1." He put his arm round his daughter. "I am thinking about our2in India," said Sara. "I don't think I like 3very much, Father." "But you must go to school in London, and I must go back to India and leave." said the father.

    Soon they arrived at Miss Minchin's School5Girls and went into the big house. Miss Minchin was a tall woman6a black dress. She looked at Sara, and then gave a very big smile. "What a7child!" she said. Sara stood8and watched Miss Minchin. She thought. "I am not beautiful, so why does she say it?" Sara was not beautiful,9her father was rich. And Miss Minchin liked girls with rich fathers,10it was good for the school. "Sara is a good girl," Mr. Crewe said to Miss Minchin. "Her mother was French, so she speaks French well, and she reads books all the time. But she must11with the other girls and make new friends, too." "Of course," said Miss Minchin. She12again. "Sara is going to be very happy here, Mr. Crewe."

    Mr. Crewe13in London for a week. He bought many beautiful, expensive dresses for his daughter. He bought books, and flowers, and a big14with beautiful dresses, too.

    When Mr. Crewe 15from London, Sara was very sad, but she did not cry. She sat in her room and thought about her father on the ship back to India.

    "Father wants me to be happy," She said to her new doll. "I want to be a good daughter, so I must be happy." It was a very big, and beautiful doll, but of course it couldn't answer. Sara soon made new friends in the school.
