Life is not easy, but I'd like to say “When anything happens, believe in yourself.”

    When I was young, I was 1 nervous that I couldn't talk to anyone. My classmates often laughed at me. I was 2and couldn't do anything. Later, one thing changed my life. My mother asked me to 3 an English speech contest (比赛). What a(n)4 idea! It meant I had to speak in front of many teachers and students!

    “Come on, dear. Believe in yourself. You are sure to succeed(成功).” Then, mother and I 5 many different topics(话题). 6, I chose the topic “Believe in yourself”. I 7 to remember the whole speech and practiced it over 100 times.8my mother's great love, I was successful. When I heard the news, I almost couldn't believe my 9, when the news came that I had won the first place. I heard the cheers from the teachers and students. Some students looked down on (瞧不起) me before, but they all said “Congratulations!” to me. My mother cried excitedly and10.

    Since then, when I do anything, I try to tell myself to be confident.

    Once there were two mice. They were friends. One mouse lived in the country,    1  mouse lived in the city. After many years the Country Mouse saw the City Mouse, he  2 , "Do come and see me at my house in the country." So the City Mouse went. The City Mouse said, "This food is not good, and your house is not good,  3 . Why do you live in a hole in the field? You should 4 and live in the city. You would live in a nice house  5 stone. You must come and see me at my house in the city. " The Country Mouse went to the house 6 the City Mouse. It was a very good house. Nice food was ready for them to eat. But just as they began to eat they heard a great  7 . The City Mouse cried, "Run! Run! The cat is coming! " They ran away 8 and hid. After some time they came out. When they came out, the Country Mouse said, "I  9 living in the city. I like living in my hole in the field. For  10 is nicer to be poor and happy, than to be rich and afraid."

    It's very common to meet different people in public places.

    When I was  12 years old, I got a small job in a 1,On my first day at work, I didn't come home for lunch. When I came home at night, Mum asked, “How did you 2 your lunch, dear?" I answered, "I made some new friends in the supermarket, twin brothers, their mom and dad. They were my customers. They invited me 3 lunch."

    Mum was happy that I had made new friends but she wanted to know what kinds of 4they might be.

    Several days later, I asked my friends to come to the supermarket where l worked5let Mum meet them. Mum was very 6 to find out that the twin brothers were joined at the chest（胸部）.She felt very strange because I didn't tell her about that before.

    When Mum asked me about this, I said, "I know that too. But do you know that their mom has to make all clothes because it's 7 difficult to find anything to fit them? They're also good 8  .That day, Joe, the one on the right, made me noodles for lunch."

    When Mum saw the twins, she must have thought how strange they9But to me, what I cared about was that they had difficulty10clothes and they were good cooks.

    Two weeks before Christmas last year, I went to London with my1. I shall never forget the day. The streets were full of people. The shop windows were very bright. My mother held my hand and we both went into a 2shop. The shop was full of 3. There were nice toys4. Then I saw Father Christmas himself! I pulled(拉)my mother by 5. "Please6me to Father Christmas." I said. There were a lot of children near 7. They were all very happy. They 8in a line. Father Christmas9 to every one of them. At last it was my turn. "Hello, little Tom, "he said to me.     Thanksgiving was just around the corner. The menu (菜谱) had been set. The shopping list was made. 1 seemed perfect. I could taste turkey and mashed potatoes (火鸡和土豆泥). Pictures of different pies, fruit and vegetables came into my mind. I couldn't 2!

    The day before Thanksgiving my dad called a family meeting. He said we needed to practice being 3. "We are going to 4 at a homeless shelter (收容所) on Thanksgiving Day." I couldn't believe this was happening. So we wouldn't cook our own Thanksgiving dinner? The holiday wouldn't be the same. I thought the day would be ruined (糟蹋).

    The next morning, we got up 5. I followed my father to the shelter with my sleepy eyes. I had no great expectations and felt 6 all the way. As soon as we arrived, we got to work. There was so much to be done. But all I could think about was the dinner I couldn't enjoy.

    However, those thoughts soon 7. Over the next few hours, I watched hundreds of people come through the shelter. For some, this was the only hot meal they would eat that week. For others, it was the first time to eat a Thanksgiving meal. The shelter was filled with 8.

    Through this experience, I learned that Thanksgiving is a time to think about your blessings (祝福) and look for ways to bless others. When I gave up what I had wanted, I discovered how much I have. It is much better to 9 than to receive. In the end, that Thanksgiving became an 10 experience.
