A five-day holiday can be very exciting for anyone. But a small thing can also make you feel really bad.

    One sunny day Mr. Li wanted to go to Hangzhou for a trip. He wanted to take a train because he would like to see the villages and rivers along the way. And it was not expensive. After he arrived at the train station, he waited for（等待）a long time. He had nothing to do, so he bought a book and read it. When the train came, he got on the train and sat down. About ten minutes later, a man came up to him and said, “Excuse me, sir. This is my seat.”

  “What?” Mr. Li said, looking at his ticket（票）.

  “Are you going to Chengdu?” the man asked.

  “No, I'm going to Hangzhou,” Mr. Li answered. And then he knew he got on the train by mistake.

   Luckily, he didn't miss the right train. All in all, it was not a good start.

It was one of the hottest days of the dry season. It had not rained in almost a month. The crops were dying. Cows had stopped giving milk. If it did not rain soon, we would lose everything. On this day, I witnessed(目睹) a wonder.

    I was making lunch when I saw my 6-year-old son, Billy, walking very slowly toward the woods. Minutes later he came running out again, toward the house. Soon after, I saw him walking toward the woods again. This went on for an hour. Finally I walked out of the house quietly and followed him.

    Billy cupped both hands in front of him as he walked, careful not to drop the water he carried. Leaves slapped his face but he kept walking into the woods. Then I saw an amazing sight. Several large deer stood in front of him. Billy walked right up to them. I saw a tiny baby deer lying on the ground. It was dying of thirst, and it lifted its head with great effort to drink the water in my boy's hands.

    When the water was gone, Billy ran back to the house. I followed him to the tap. Billy opened it and a small trickle(细流) came out. He knelt down, letting the drops slowly fill up his "cup".

Now I understood what was going on. The week before, he tried giving water to our horses but I told him not to waste water. Now when he stood up and turned, I was there in front of him. His eyes filled with tears, "I'm not wasting," he said. I joined him with a small pot of water from the kitchen. I let him walk to the baby deer alone while I stood at the edge of the woods. As tears rolled down my face, they were suddenly joined by other drops... and more drops... as if the sky itself was crying.

    Tom lives in a town near New York. His father has a shop there and his mother is a doctor. Tom is seven years old this year and begins to go to school this September. It is a little far from their shop and his father drives a car to take him to take him to school five days a week. So he is never late for class and his father likes him very much.

    It is Monday today. Miss Green is teaching them to count(数数) from one to ten in the morning. Tom is study hard. Soon he can count them. Miss Green is very happy and asks, "How many people are there in your family, Tom."

    Tom stands up and says, "Two, Miss Gao."

    "Who are they?"

    "My father and my mother."

    "Oh," Miss Green is surprised(吃惊). She says "Then there are three people in your family."

    "But now I'm not at home. I'm at school, you know."

    George works in a small hotel. One day, it was raining heavily, an old couple (老夫妇) came to the hotel and asked for a room. George said to the old man, "I am sorry, sir, now all the rooms in the hotel are full, but I have another room left." Then George went to do some cleaning in the room and showed it to the old couple.

    The next day, the old couple wanted to pay for the room. George said, "It is free because it is my own room. I think there may be no rooms in all the hotels in the city. But it was not good to let you out in a heavy rain." The old man said, "You are so kind, and you are the best worker of the hotel." The old couple thanked George and left.

    A few months later, George got a letter with an air ticket to New York and a job offer (工作聘书). When George got to New York, he saw the old man. The old man showed him a large and beautiful hotel and said to George, "This is my hotel. I hope you would take charge of it for me." Then George became the manager (经理) of the big hotel in New York.

    In fact, the old man was quite rich. He had the big hotel and believed George could do the job well.
