Would you like to live in a city where buildings turn off the lights for you, and self-driving cars will find the nearest parking space themselves? Although it might sound a little far from you, living in a "smart" city like this could happen sooner than you think. 

The towns that we have lived in for centuries have changed a lot, while completely new cities are being built. One such place is the city of Songdo. In every home there will be a "telepresence" system（远程遥控系统）—allowing users to control the heating（暖气）and locks, take part in video meetings, and receive education, healthcare and government services. Around the city, escalators（自动扶梯）will only move when someone is on them, and offices and schools will all be connected to the system. 

The great mind behind Songdo is from the company Cisco. In fact, technology companies around the world such as IBM, Siemens and Microsoft are already in the business. 

About 75% of the world's population will live in cities by 2050, so cities will need to be more modern to solve the coming problems. "Making cities smarter is one way out, and I think this will in turn make cities greener." said Dan Hill, head of a research company.

I'm Mike. I am a junior high school student. Junior high is different from primary school. These differences help us grow and learn new things. My parents help me a lot during this time.

 In junior high, we have more subjects. This means I need to plan my time well. In primary school, my teacher told me what to do. Now, I have to make my timetable for study. At first, this was not easy for me. However, my parents help me by showing me how to create(创造) a timetable. They teach me to turn big task into small ones, then work on them one after another. It's useful.

 Making new friends is another part of growing up. In junior high, I meet many new people. Sometimes,I feel shy about talking to them. My parents tell me to be brave(勇敢的). They also tell me I can join clubs. Because it's easier for us to make friends with others through clubs.

 The challenges in junior high also teach us important lessons. For example, when I face problems, I must learn to be patient (耐心的) and work hard. My parents tell me that it is OK to make mistakes because I can learn from them.

 Thanks to my parents, I believe I can work out any problems in junior high and grow as a better man.

②Scientifĩc studies show that left-handed people have no higher IQ than the right-handed. They are just good at different things.

③Left-handed and right-handed people usually use different sides of their brains(大脑). The right-handed use the left side more often, but the left-handed use both sides more evenly(均衡地).

④The left-handed are good at thinking creatively(创造性地) in anything from art to science. But it's not all good news for them. They may easily forget names and places.

If you are hiking with a friend who is overweight, you may hear them say that the hills look steeper(更陡峭的) and the distances look farther away than what they really are. Is your friend lazy? Actually, this is just what the world looks like in their eyes.

 Scientists from Colorado State University show that being overweight distorts perception(扭曲知觉). They think distances are farther away than they actually are.

 In one study, scientists asked 66 people of different weights and sizes to say how far away a traffic cone (交通围标) was. The cone was actually 25m away. Those who were about 57kg thought it was just15m from them, but those who weighed about 146kg saw it as being 30m away.

 So far from being crazy. Overweight people simply see the world differently when thinking about exercise. The heavy weight can feel like a load (装载物) to carry.

"If you find yourself out hiking with a heavy backpack, hills are going to seem steeper, distances are going to look farther, a gap across a river are going to look bigger." Jessica Witt from Colorado State University told the Guardian.

 It's this idea that if you have to make more of an effort to climb that hill because you are carrying this heavy backpack, the hill is going to look more challenging.

"You are not seeing that hill as it is. You are seeing the world through your ability to act. You have less ability because you are having to carry this backpack." Witt said.

A little girl in Hangzhou who loves baking(烘焙) has become popular. She watched videos on the Internet to learn how to bake and set up a stall(货摊) for sale during the summer holiday in2024. She can get several hundred yuan a day from her sales. 

Feng does well in making cakes. From an early age, Feng often watched her parents cook in the kitchen. She truly started baking in her second grade. She watched baking videos on the Internet first. After that, she tried to improve her baking skills. Sometimes she could spend all day baking in the kitchen. 

In the summer holiday of 2024, Feng came up with the idea of setting up a stall outside to sell cakes. She could earn(赚) up to 500 yuan a day at most. Her mother mainly wanted to develop her daughter's skills. She didn't expect her daughter to have such strong hands-on and social skills. To her surprise, Feng Rui did everything from baking the cakes to selling them. Sometimes when the cakes were not sold out, Feng Rui gave them to cleaners and friends. Now, she begins to teach some children to bake. 

Feng Rui will keep studying baking. Her mother was proud of her and said, "Stick to what you love is a beautiful thing. I hope she has a colourful life. "
