 阅读理解

①"Volunteering(做志愿工作)can make a real difference to the world. It makes you look at the world differently. You see how little things can change a person's life for the better which makes everyone a better person. "Mason,a volunteer said.

②National Volunteer Week started in 1974 and is held every April. It is a time to thank volunteers for their achievements. t is also a perfect opportunity(机会)to encourage others to take their first step toward becoming a volunteer. Making the decision to take the first step can be the biggest problem,because they often wonder if they will be able to meet the organization's expectations(期望). Some people fear not knowing anyone else in the group. Not having enough time also stops some from sharing their abilities. The following tips can help if you have some of these worries.

③Start out 'slowly,don't add too much pressure(压力). Even a few hours a month can make a big difference in someone's life.

④Choose an organization (组织)with the same interests and common values.

⑤Take part in a training meeting for new volunteers,even if it is not asked.

⑥Work with a experienced volunteer. He volunteered a lot,he can help you increase the confidence and completely understand the organization's expectations.

⑦Invite a friend or family member to serve. It is a good experience to volunteer with them

⑧Finally,it is most important to enjoy the volunteer experience and to remember that not all volunteer experiences are perfect. If one experience doesn't work, don't give up and you'll surely find the right opportunity.

⑨Spend some time on' volunteer 'work and you will 'see great' changes in people's lives. As Mason discovered during his volunteer experience, "… little things can change a person's life. "

 阅读下面短文,请从每小题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。

Paul Roberts, a 15-year-old boy, lives in New York. Like thousands of other American students, he usually goes away to a summer camp during the school holidays.

These camps are just for teenagers, without their parents, and Paul always has a great time. But this summer he's doing something different-he's going on an adventure* holiday in Hawaii.

It's a camping holiday for three weeks in Hawaii, for kids from 14 to

18. He's leaving on July 23rd and coming back on August 12th.

First, they're putting on backpacks and hiking through the forest in Hawaii. The place is very beautiful, with huge waterfalls and fascinating beaches. After this five-day walk, they're staying for two days in a valley*. The main activity here will be surfing. Paul doesn't know how to surf, but instructors will teach him how to do it, and he's really looking forward to this.

Then the organizers are providing mountain bikes and they're going for long rides-about 30 miles a day, around one of Hawaii's mountains. And on one day they're meeting a local Hawaiian family and helping them to plant fruit trees on their farm. After that, they're sailing for three days by the coast, and they'll have a chance to swim with dolphins and sea turtles!

This sounds amazing. Finally, they're going out for three days in sea kayaks*-they're visiting sea caves and swimming too.

Every night for the three weeks, they're camping in tents*, usually on the beach. This isn't a holiday for couch potatoes! They say the kids have to be fit, and of course they have to know how to swim and ride a bike. The kids can't use the computer or pad during the three weeks, but it's going to be a really special experience.

 阅读下面材料, 然后从各题所给的四个选项中选出一个最佳答案。

Billy always loved blueberries. They were his favorite fruit. Today he was going to make juice with his uncle. His uncle liked to make juice out of everything. He made carrot juice, apple juice, vegetable juice, and more juices. He had never made blueberry juice before though!

First, Billy and his uncle went to a blueberry farm. They were each given a basket. They picked for an hour and got several pounds. It was hard work picking the little berries from the trees. Now Billy understood why they were expensive in the store.

Next, they had to wash the fruit. Some of them still had leaves. Those had to be pulled off. Then the bad berries had to be thrown away. They washed the berries and made them air-dry.

After that, they pushed the blueberries through a strainer (过滤器). The strainer caught most of the seeds and skins, and only left a small glass of dark purple juice to them

When they tasted the juice, it wasn't very sweet. Billy's uncle didn't want to add white sugar (糖) to the juice. It was better to use a naturally sweet juice, like apple juice, pear juice, or grape juice. They use grape juice as a sweetener, because grapes had a similar color to the blueberries.

Finally, they could drink it. It was a lot of work to make juice, but it sure was refreshing!
