When Claire Vlases of Montana was in Grade 7，she learned about plans to modernize（使现代化） her middle school.Claire asked the school board（董事会）（太阳电池板） to the project because，she believed

The board liked the idea but said it could offer just ＄25，000.It was only one—fifth of the cost of the solar panels.So Claire organized a group of kids and grown—ups to try to get the rest.They sold their second—hand books，put on talent shows and asked for donations（捐赠），the group paid for the solar panels，which now provide one—fourth of the school's electricity needs—saving thousands of dollars for the neighborhood.

"My favorite part about this project was that one person could start something small and then the project could grow and have a big influence on the community（社群），"Claire said. "There are always going to be hard parts.But never forget why you set off.Make a determined effort to stick to your goal.When there's a challenge in front of you，you can learn from it and use it as chance to improve yourself."

My school day

Hi! I'm Alex Greenall. I'm thirteen and I go to Park School in Oxford, England. I go to school on weekdays, but not on Saturday and Sunday. This is my school day. I get up at 7:30 in the morning, and then have breakfast. 

My school is next to my house. I go to school at 8:30 and see my friends. We start work at 9:00. We have three lessons in the morning. My favourite subject is art. At 11:00, we have a break in the playground and I talk to my friends. They go to the playground and play football, but I don't like football. 

We have lunch in the dining hall at 12:30. Ilike school lunch! We have meat and rice with vegetables, or hamburgers. I drink juice or water. 

We start lessons in the afternoon at 1:30. We have two lessons in the afternoon. Then we go home at 3:30.

In the evening. I watch TV and have dinner with my family. I do my homework and go to bed at 10:00. 

①These days, a growing number of robots are invented to meet different needs and challenges, from doing difficult tasks in factories to providing support at home or school.

②Have you imagined a robot that can dance with you? Some educational robots can do that and they offer help in learning and problem-solving. In classrooms, these robots encourage students and bring them fun. At home, they can be the helpers for the students to improve creativity. For example, a NAO robot is a human-like robot with a cute face and two feet. It's about two-feet tall and can talk, move, and even dance. It helps students learn languages and programming.

③Some companion(陪伴) robots are able to help your grandparents live more happily. Among them, the robot named The Five should be one of the most excellent companion robots. It was made known to the public for the first time on September 24th, 2024. Different from other robots, The Five has got four legs with wheeled feet. Although its face looks small and strange, its powerful fingers enable it to lift an adult weighing 65 kg. It can help the elderly with many tasks including getting up, walking and carrying heavy objects. Although it hasn't been widely used yet, it has already been tested successfully in a nursing home. There is no doubt that The Five can bring much convenience(便利) to our life.

④However, there is still something robots can't do. For example, they don't have human feelings or creativity. Unable to think independently, they can only follow programmed instructions. Also, they are usually expensive to produce.

⑤As modern technology improves, robots will become more intelligent in the near future, and people will live an easier and more comfortable life.

Many people think blue is a cool colour. Blue clothes can help you feel relaxed. And the colour blue can make people not eat too much. If you don't want to be fat, you may try to eat at a blue table. Blue can also mean sadness. When you are unhappy, you may say "I'm feeling blue". 

Yellow is the colour of the sun. It's a warm colour. When you walk in a yellow room, you may feel warm and comfortable. Many people like orange because it is also a warm colour. In factories(工厂), orange is the colour of workers' clothes. It can help them work better. 

How about green? When you do your homework for a long time, just stand up and look at the trees outside. You may feel better. 

Purple usually makes people think of beautiful things. On your mother's birthday, you can buy her a purple sweater as a gift. 

 In Gansu province, three generations of workers have worked hard to stop desertification.

 Babusha,a big sand dune(沙丘) at the edge(边缘) of the Tengger Desert, was a big cause of sandstorms in the 1980s. The desert destroyed farmland and villages in its south, and affected more than 30,000 people. However, with the effort of"the six old men"and their children and grandchildren, now,a green belt, which is 10 kilometers long and 8 kilometers wide, has been built.

 This project is time-consuning. Guo Chaoming and five other villagers first had the idea of renting 5,000 hectares (公顷) of sandy land to plant trees in 1981. Their original goal was to prevent sandstorms from destroying their crops. At the time, Guo, the oldest of the six, was already 61, while Zhang Runyuan, the youngest, was not yet 50.

 At first, they planted 667 hectares of saplings (幼苗) . However, after the first sandstorm, no more than 30 percent survived. After countless failure, they successfully thought of the idea of burying wheat straw(埋麦秸) around trees to hold the sand.

Planting trees in desert is difficult, but taking care of them was even challenging. To protect the trees, they chose to live   there for years, in a simple shelter they made from wooden poles and straw (木杆和稻草) . They used bricks(砖头) to support a cooking pot(灶台) , drank boiled water and ate steamed buns when hungry.

 In the eyes of the six men, the Babusha forest farm became their most valuable possession. Even in the 1990s, when they were lack of money, they didn't cut down a single tree or grass to sell. Time passed by and four of the six passed away. But their children and grandchildren took up the torch and continued their work.

 Now, the desert has changed into grassland and forest. The amount of plants has increased from less than 3% to more than 75%. In 2019, "the six old men"and their families were honored"Model of the Times"and"Most Beautiful Fighters" for their hard work.
