Embroidery(刺绣) is often seen as "women's work". People think that it's useless for a boy to learn embroidery. Therefore, Fu Jian's parents didn't want him to work in this industry. But Fu didn't care. He believed that he could do it well.Fu was born into an embroidery family inYangzhou. His mother is a master craftswoman of Suzhou embroidery. Under the influence of his parents, Fu first fell in love with the art of embroidery at the age of four. In his senior year of high school, Fu was clear about his life goal: to promote the traditional art of embroidery.
After graduating from college, Fu founded a research center of Suzhou embroidery together with his mother. Since then, he has invented many new stitches and has trained many embroidery workers.
The embroidery artist often works overtime to finish his works. But, even so, he continues to find pleasure in his work. "I am doing what I love, so I never feel tired," the 35-year-old says.
Most recently, the artist created a piece of "bronze ware(青铜器)"on a piece of cloth using his needle and thread. "I thought of doing this because many bronzes can only be seen in museums. Yeta work of embroidery can be hung in one's home or office. People can see it at any time,"Fu explained.
Fu Jian also realized that studying techniques is not enough. In order to better protect this culture, he also promotes embroidery culture on new media platforms in his spare time. "I hope more people can understand the traditional craft of embroidery and join in. Only with extensive participation can this traditional culture form a flourishing scenario(繁荣的局面)."
