Stanley Karras works as a meteorologist (气象学家) in Tampa, Florida. His job is to follow hurricanes (飓风) by plane and provide information about them for scientists.

What do you like most about your job?

I love the travel most. Running after hurricanes has taken me all over the world. It's exciting to end up in different cities and different countries day after day. If you're a meteorologist, you have to love flying. I also love working with top scientists. I have learnt so much from them and we have had a lot of exciting time together.

Do you make any sacrifices (牺牲) to do this job?

Yes, I'm so far away from my family. They all live in the UK. My wife is with me, of course, but her family is also in the UK. So we're pretty cut off from them all over here.

What would you like to do next?

I'd like to join a space programme and be the first meteorologist in space, but I have not come up with an experiment(实验) to do in space yet. There aren't any hurricanes!

What tips would you give to someone wanting to do your job?

Study maths, science and meteorology well. There are many areas in meteorology to study. I have taken the hurricane hunter path, but you could be a weather reporter or study in other areas.

Though it may sound like a boast(自夸),I've always been proud that I never throw litter around. One day, however, when I saw the gate of my neighbourhood, all my  {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(自豪感;骄傲) just disappeared.

A line of colourful bins {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(最近;近来) appeared at the gate, with different signs on each one of them. I realised that I should    {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(分开) the rubbish into different kinds before dropping it into the dustbin. To answer this call of garbage classification(垃圾分类),I found    {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(几个;一些) cardboard boxes at home and used each of them to collect a certain kind of garbage, such as plastic, batteries and so on.

However, I had great    {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(困难;困境) in remembering the correct classification at first. But now, I have a good    {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(感觉) when doing this because it's my contribution towards protecting our environment. As much as we may be proud of our  {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(快速的;迅速的) development, we haven't realised that the environment is changing for the worse. With the growth of our    {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(人口), people are putting huge pressure on the environment, and garbage pollution is one of the biggest problems.

In this    {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (情 况 ), garbage classification is necessary. It can produce    {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(较少的) pollution, making the air and water cleaner. And recycling can help us make the best use of the waste that would have just been thrown away before.

It is not easy to solve our worries. However, spending time with animals can make us {#blank#}1{#/blank#} better. Let's look at how pets can help us to better solve our worries and why it is good to {#blank#}2{#/blank#} a pet.

Many people like talking to their pets, and this is good, {#blank#}3{#/blank#} they can tell their pets about their problems. This helps to reduce (减少) a person's stress (压力). Animals can be good {#blank#}4{#/blank#} to us all. And they help to stop us from feeling alone when we are {#blank#}5{#/blank#} troubles.

Animals help us to take our {#blank#}6{#/blank#} off our problems. Spending time with animals can help us to be {#blank#}7{#/blank#} active. It also helps us to put our energies (精力) into working with them but not worrying about things that may or may not {#blank#}8{#/blank#}. People can do activities with their pets or their animals. This will give them a {#blank#}9{#/blank#} opinion on things. Most importantly, playing with animals helps to give us the self-confidence (自信) to get through our troubles.

Animals can help us to {#blank#}10{#/blank#} about the good things in our lives. Playing with animals can help to reduce our worries and stress in all situations.

Taking exams will be one of the most stressful times of your life, especially when you have your parents and your teachers telling you all the time {#blank#}1{#/blank#} important exams are. You will probably be under even more {#blank#}2{#/blank#} if you have an older brother or sister who has already done well in {#blank#}3{#/blank#} exams and your parents expect you to do so too. But don't worry, because it's {#blank#}4{#/blank#} to feel stressed before taking an exam. In fact, research has {#blank#}5{#/blank#} that a little stress in your life can motivate(激励) you and help you get better results.

Some people don't make any plans before taking a trip. They think it will be more exciting and have more fun with no plan. But in fact, it is not good. Making vacation plans is very important. 

{#blank#}1{#/blank#}For example, if you want to visit a place but you don't book a hotel, you may have no place to stay at night. So it is necessary to make plans to make your trip better. 

Before going to a place, look into things. {#blank#}2{#/blank#}Besides, remember to get information about what to do and how best to go to the place. You may miss out on seeing some things if you don't look into what you can see in the place. 

You won't forget things to take. You need to plan what things you have to buy and what things you need to put in your bag. For example, you arrive at the airport, but find that you forget to bring your plane ticket! {#blank#}3{#/blank#}

You can save time. By planning your way and looking into transportation time, you can make the most out of your days and save time to do the other things you like.
