The Water Festival

The Dai people live in Yunnan, China.

Every year The Dai people hold a great festival called the Water Festival. It is the New Year for the Dai. It's a festival to send off the old and greet the new. It lasts three or four days in April.

People dressed in beautiful clothes during the Water Festival. The Dai people sing, dance and splash water on each other from the morning. If(如果) you are drenched(使湿透), don't get angry. That represents(代表) a blessing. More water you get, more good luck you will have in the next year.

The Dai people also have a dragon boat race during this festival. The boats are decorated to look like dragons. Whoever wins the race means that they will get good luck.

The Water Festival has become part of the culture in Yunnan Province. Nowadays, not only Dai people but also tourists participate(参与) in this exciting festival.
