Lisa's weekly housework

Lisa's parent want her to do some housework every day. They don't want Lisa to depend on them too much. Lisa can learn some life skills (技能)and get some pocket money at the same time. Let's see what housework Lisa does in a week.

Alicia: What time do you normally start and end your workday?

Ricky: That depends on the part of the project I'm working on. Before and after filming. I usually wake up at 7 a. m., start working soon after that, and stop in the afternoon. During filming, I don't have a regular schedule. I usually wake up when the sun comes up and I quit when the sun goes down.

Ricky: That also depends on the project. I work from home when I'm not filming. While I'm filming, I work all over the world. For example, when I was making a film about the Himalayas, I worked in a village in the mountains. 

Alicia: Why did you choose to do this kind of work?

Ricky: When I was young, I watched a lot of movies and read a lot of books. They showed me different ways of living and thinking. I want my films and photographs to do this for other people! 

Alicia: What's the most difficult thing about your job?

Ricky: The paperwork. It's boring, but it's important.

My name is Bill.I took a trip to Ireland last weekend with my family.I didn't enjoy the trip because there were a lot of bad things.First，my brother forgot his passport （护照），and we missed our plane to Dublin in the morning.Mom wasn't very happy and blamed（责备） him.Luckily，there was a plane to Dublin in the afternoon and we got on that one.

When we took our things after getting off the plane，my dad's big bag wasn't there.The airline company （航空公司） said they would try to look for it.Then we took a bus to the camping place.We arrived late on Saturday evening，and we were very tired.We put up our tents in the evening，but in the middle of the night my tent fell down.I had to sleep in my sleeping bag.

The next morning，we went on a boat trip to an island （岛）.The trip took us two hours.When we arrived，it started to rain，so we sat in a small restaurant all morning，and then we took a boat back.It wasn't much fun!

I was very happy to get home.I was tired then.Looking back at our trip，I think we should be more careful and check （检查） if all our things are good next time.What's more，we should check the weather.

Everyone is born with the ability to learn. But whether or not you can do this well depends on your learning habits. Research shows that successful learners have some good habits in common. 

Creating an interest in what they learn

Studies show that if you are interested in something, your brain is more active and it is also easier for you to pay attention to it for a long time. Good learners often connect what they need to learn with something they are interested in. For example, if they need to learn English and they like music or sports, they can listen to English songs or watch sports programs in English. This way they will not get bored.

Practicing and learning from mistakes

Good learners think about what they are good at and what they need to practice more. Remember, "use it or lose it"! Even if you learn something well, you will forget it unless you use it. Practice makes perfect. Good learners are also not afraid of making mistakes. Alexander Graham Bell did not invent the telephone overnight. He succeeded by trying many times and learning from his mistakes.

Developing their study skills

It is not enough to just study hard. You have to know how to study. Good learners find out the best ways to learn well. For example, they may take notes by writing down key words or by drawing mind maps. Good learners also look for ways to review what they have learned. They may do this by reading their notes every day or by explaining the information to another student.

Asking questions

Good learners often ask questions during or after class. They even ask each other and try to find out the answers. Knowledge comes from questioning. Learning is a life-long journey because every day brings something new. Everything that you learn l becomes a part of you and changes you, so learn wisely and learn well.

 Rongchang xiabu(荣昌夏布),a Chinese traditional intangible cultural heritage(非物质文化遗产), is getting international attention thanks to the efforts of Ivan Andrew Chen from India and his Chinese wife, Tang Yi.

 Rongchang xiabu is an ancient handmade fabric (织物) that first appeared in Rongchang district, Chongqing, during the Han Dynasty. The district is known for its cultural heritage, such as Rongchang xiabu, Rongchang pottery, and Rongchang paper fan-making techniques. It is also famous for producing high-quality ramie, the material(材料) used to make the xiabu cloth.

 Chen has a deep connection to China--his grandfather is a Chinese Indian from Guangdong province, and he has a quarter Chinese heritage. After meeting Tang in 2015, he knew a lot about Rongchang xiabu and decided to live in Rongchang. And in order to know Rongchang xiabu better, he left his job in India and learned Chinese himself. Tang, his wife, comes from a family with a long history in the xiabu industry.

 The couple aim to honor traditional practices while catching international attention. Many wonderful products were made by using xiabu fabric. Also, they have successfully introduced xiabu products to foreign diplomats(外交官) and opened a xiabu-themed hotel in Rongchang. Besides, they have taken part in international trade shows and exhibitions to present Rongchang xiabu' s qualities. Now, they are planning to work with environmental brands, start educational programs, and work with fashion companies to connect xiabu with modern designs.

 Their efforts have made a great difference to the growth of the xiabu industry in Rongchang, and brought this ancient treasure to the world.
