One day, Jack and Sharon were going for a walk in the snow. 

"Oh Jack,1 that wonderful view ( 景 色 ) of our garden! We're so lucky to live somewhere so beautiful!" said Sharon. 

"Yes, I think so, but it could be even better …"answered Jack. "What do you mean?" asked Sharon. 

"Well, look at those little2 . I'm not so sure they like the3 when it's covered in snow. The poor little things can't find anything to4 . We're enjoying the view, but the birds are so cold and hungry!"said Jack. 

"You're right, Jack. We should do something to5 those hungry birds," said Sharon. Jack thought for a while and said,"Why don't we make some delicious bird food and put it outside so the birds can6 it?"

Then both of them got busy in the kitchen7 food for the birds. The food was good enough to keep the birds going when the garden was covered in snow. Sure enough, the birds came flying to Jack and Sharon's home-made8 . They hung( 悬 挂 )from the trees in Jack's garden. And all winter long, the birds all lived9 . So Jack and Sharon were10 again!

The year is 2045. A group of robots take part in the World Cup. Robots? Is that possible? Many scientists believe it can happen, because there are already robots that can play football. Of course, today's robots don't just play sports.

Early robots could do easy things, mainly in factories. Humans operated (操作) them. However, today's robots can operate on their own. Some can only move around a little, like the robots which can sweep the floor, but others, for example, Honda's ASIMO can do much more. He can run, climb, dance, and even play football.

Then there are robots which look like humans. These robots have faces and can show feelings. Such robots can learn new things, and show us how they "feel". Actroid -DER is one of them.

Scientists are also making robots that look and act like animals. At NASA, scientists are making a robot snake which can get into holes (洞). One day, it may help scientists look for signs of life on Mars. There are other animal robots. The frog-bot can jump over things. The sticky-bot can walk up walls. There's even a robot called Water Runner that can walk on water.

But can a robot football team ever play as well as a human team? Many scientists think so. Anything is possible. One day, they may even be world champions (冠军)!

Steve, a twelve-year-old boy, lives in a small town. He has a round face. He isn't tall or short. He is kind of thin. 

When Steve was one month old, his mom found he couldn't see anything. She took him to many hospitals, but it didn't help Steve much. After that, Steve's mom always told him what things around him were like. With his mom's help, Steve knew everything around him slowly.

It's not far from his home to school. It only takes him about ten minutes to walk to school. He likes all the subjects and studies hard. His teachers and classmates always help him. He doesn't go home for lunch. His mother always cooks his favorite food and takes it to school.

Steve likes playing the piano and he started to learn it two years ago. Now he is in a music club and he can play many songs. Every day, Steve plays the piano for his mom after school. He wants to be a great musician and play the piano for more people. "I know it is difficult for me to be a musician, but I will work hard for it. It will come true some day," said Steve.

Every week, Wu Lin, a 19-year-old college student, will wait at a store selling food nearing its expiration date (保质期) , and return to school with a bag of snacks. "These products are usually sold at 30% to 50% off and many of them are from big brands. I'm really a big fan of them," she said.

Wu is among a growing number of young Chinese who buy near-expired food. According to a report by iiMedia Research, China's near-expired food market went beyond 30 billion yuan in 2020 and 47.8 percent of the consumers were aged 26 to 35.

Unlike the traditional thought that buying such food is penny-pinching（吝啬的） or embarrassing, more and more young people like Wu regard it as a way to help reduce food waste. "I don't care much about the date, as long as I can eat them before their expiration dates. It meets my needs while saving resources and protecting the environment, which is a good thing," says Wu.

Physical stores (实体店) selling near-expired food have sprung up (突然兴起) in cities across China. HotMaxx, a chain store that opened in 2020 in major Chinese cities, has increased to more than 200 in number across the country. Online shops selling such food are growing rapidly, too. On Taobao, around 2.1 million people buy near-expired food every year.

From a food safety standpoint（观点）, which may concern many consumers, experts believe that such products won't do any harm. "Near-expired food is safe and buying these products is a good practice to help prevent waste of resources, which should be encouraged," says Zhou Yu, a professor of food nutrition (营养) and safety at Anhui Agricultural University.

Max and Holly sat beside each other in a classroom. Their teacher Miss Carr stood at the front of the classroom and looked at them with a strange stare. "Silence!" Miss Carr shouted. "You're only allowed to speak if you want to say "I'd like to do extra hard MATH", understand? "

Then the bell rang for lunchtime and everyone jumped to their feet. "Sit down!" shouted Miss Carr. Everyone did as they were told. Miss Carr held up some sheets of paper. "These are new school rules, written by our wonderful new headteacher, Mr. Roberts, " she said. "You must do exactly as they say from this moment on. I want everyone to take a copy for your parents."

"Look at this!" Max said, reading the first line. "Rule one: No pupil will be allowed to go out at playtime unless they have passed a daily spelling test." Max and Holly then continued to look at the other new school rules. 

"Rule two: We're not supposed to be in here at lunchtime."

"Rule three: Pupils must eat cabbage stew or sprout surprise for lunch."

"Rule four: All P. E. will now take place outdoors—no matter what the weather is."

…

"Something's wrong." said Holly, "Things have been strange ever since Mr. Roberts took over as our head teacher last week. We need to find out what's going on."

Then Max and Holly walked to the teachers' office and stepped inside, surprised to find that many teachers have been tied up in the room! From their words, Max and Holly knew that the teacher in the classroom just now was just a robot clone (克隆) and she was not real Miss Carr, even the new headmaster! Max and Holly then succeeded in freeing all the teachers trapped. 

"We'll deal with those rotten robots!" said one of the teachers, as they ran out of the room. 

"How can I ever thank you, Max?" asked the real Miss Carr. 

"How about no homework for the rest of the school year."

Finally, Max and Holly realized that the school rules made by their real headmaster were so nice.

The English class hasn't started yet. Some students are talking about the football match they played last time and the match they will play. They played {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(对抗) HAS last time. HAS s{#blank#}2{#/blank#} for Haidian All Stars. Betty says if her {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(记忆) is correct, HAS 98 p{#blank#}4{#/blank#} to BIG 52. Daming wasn't chosen for the team last time. That was a bad d{#blank#}5{#/blank#} because they couldn't play well without him. There will be another match next Saturday at n{#blank#}6{#/blank#}. If Betty and Lingling want good {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (座位), they have to get there by 11:30. Lingling tells Tony he should not {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (踢) the ball, but throw it. Tony is so {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(生气的) at Betty and Lingling that he will try harder to win. Betty and Lingling will be there to c{#blank#}10{#/blank#} for them. The two girls hopes they will win this time.
