One day a father and his teenager son were out together at a shopping mall. The son wanted to buy a new pair of 1at the sports store.

    2they were making their way through the crowded food store, a young woman holding a number of bags 3and the contents of several of them spilled across the floor. The son stepped around the woman and continued with the flow only to 4 that his father wasn't next to him. Looking around he5his father bending down and helping the woman 6the spilled items.

    Feeling a bit bad he hadn't thought to stop and help, he simply stood and 7 from the distance. He was 8 when his father handed the woman her things and she simply took them away without9 him and said “I can do it myself!” when his father returned, the son expressed his10at how impolite the woman had been.

    In the sports store the son was so11 about the incident that he spent most of the time complaining. They soon left without the shoes.

    Later at 12,the son told his mother the story, 13 her to be just as angry as he was at the woman's 14. His mother looked at her husband 15enjoying his meal and said, “Son, your father left that woman behind hours ago. Why are you 16 with her?”

    The whole school was talking about the coming trip at a winter camp. And everyone was 1, except me.

    The next day, I was 15 to try ski jumping first, even though I didn't want to. But when my feet left the ground, I felt I was 16 and it was wonderful.

    Maybe Dad was right when he said "You might 17 it if you give it a chance!"

    Maybe the kind of 18 Mom and Dad were talking about had more to do with my outlook (态度）than my looks. We all 19 fitting in and failing when we try 20 things. Sometimes you've got to fall on your face to discover how much you've got in common.

    There was a very popular local restaurant near our company. One day, I went with some colleagues from my office for a dinner in a very popular local restaurant. It was 1 business time and the restaurant was crowded. We 2 found a table in a corner for three of us.

    As soon as we sat down, we heard a crash when a cleaning boy 3 the floor with all the plates he was carrying. There was 4 and no one was saying or doing anything.

    In a flash I remembered my 5 many years ago. Once, I 6 in the airport because I had rushed there on my own on an empty stomach. I was picked up and taken care of by two 7. Now this was my chance to 8it forward.  

    I ran to the young man's side immediately, turned him on his back and screamed for someone to 9 a hot drink. Soon people started asking if I was a doctor. I said I was not, but I was 10 at attending the one blacking out(晕厥).

    The kid soon opened his eyes, 11 what had happened. I 12 him by saying it was OK and I had had a 13experience. He had not eaten anything. I held the 14 drink to his mouth till he finished it and sat with him till he felt OK. By then the 15 had arrived. I asked her to give the kid something to eat. I offered to pay.

    The manager was kind enough to refuse the 16 and agreed to make sure the kid ate before he went home. By the time all this was 17 it was getting late for my colleagues. We hadn't 18 anything yet, so they decided to go home.

    I slowly walked home, not hungry any more, feeling 19 for the opportunity I pay forward the 20 I had received many years ago.

    I became a gardener when I was twelve. My early 1 of gardening may not have come from my love for nature. It was to 2 my parents.

    At that time we had a big yard in which a beautiful maple tree stood. But my mother often looked with 3 at this work of natural art. Those golden leaves seemed like tons of rubbish to her, something else to 4. Seeing the neighbors busy with gardening, my father even thought it a waste of time.

    At that age, I always did something 5 to whatever my parents did! If gardening were something they found 6, I would plant a garden!

    I planted some lily seeds in the yard. But they failed to 7, I continued to plant sunflower seeds and roses. Wild 8 joy, I found the first rose bloom (开花). One by one, the flowers bloomed their heads off. 9, I was touched by this land of wonder.

    10, my parents showed no interest in my garden. My father even 11at me because he found it was 12 to move around my garden to the driveway. To my mother's 13, I put in her vase my real roses which in her eyes were simply weeds 14 flowers.

    It has been many years since I made my first garden out of my desire to 18 my parents. Today I become known as Mrs. Green thumbs (手指), teaching gardening and hosting a gardening show, which makes my parents feel very 19. And now I could say it my affection for 20 that makes me a real gardener.

    MacArthur's love for sailing dates back to when she was just 4 years old, when she first got the opportunity to have a try on a boat. "It kind of 1 me that this boat had everything we needed to take us anywhere in the world. And as a child,that opened up everything and made me feel the greatest sense of 2 ， " she explained.

    This experience 3 a passion within MacArthur that she wanted to sail around the world. Growing up in the countryside, she had no idea how to 4 it. However, she knew that was what she wanted to do at some stage. So she acquired knowledge and 5 for years to seek her dream in sailing. Having merely potatoes and beans every day for eight years, she 6 could afford the right equipment. By reaching such 7 goals and asking technical questions about 8, MacArthur felt as though she was getting 9 to her ambition.

    "The impossible could be possible and 10 high is not necessarily such a crazy thing to do." she said. And it seems that MacArthur's 11 to become a sailor went beyond her expectations. At the age of 24, she started to 12 media attention after winning the second place in the Vendee Globe, a single­handed non­stop yacht (帆船)race that went around the world.

    Four years later, MacArthur chose to sail for 71 days and 14 hours, 13 more than 26_,000 miles. This led to her scoring a new record. 14 this record has since been surpassed (超过), MacArthur is still considered as Britain's most successful offshore racer.

    So when you know where you're going, you can actually get there—even if it seems 15!

My 13-year-old daughter sent a postcard to us while we were still away on our most recent trip to California. It 1 our house about a week later. The touching 2 nearly brought me to tears.

"Even though we 3 have two days of adventures ahead of us, I am just so 4 for everything we have experienced together on this trip," she writes.

Our youngest daughter is just about to 5 11 years old. In those years, we have never taken a true 6 as a family of four to a place we've never been. Like most 7 , I have no idea where the time has gone. But I also think these are some of the best ages to 8 with kids.

This vacation to California was our very first 9 , long-distance trip together. The kids helped 10 the trip with input on things they might like to see and do. They reached for our hands in crowds. I can't remember the last time they held our hands 11 .

One of our family bonding moments came when we took a family surfing lesson. It was the first time any of us had tried surfing, although it was something the girls had been 12 . The smiles on the girls' faces were everything. They were so 13 when they stood up on the board and rode the waves one by one.

Those are memories I'm going to 14 . And yes, I will remind them of these times the next time I reach for their 15 .
