Why play games？Because they are fun，and a lot more besides. Following the rules，planning your next move

Think about some of the games you played as a young child，such as rope﹣jumping and hide﹣and﹣seek. Some games are entertaining and fun. But perhaps more importantly，they translate life into exciting dreams that teach children some of the basic rules they will be expected to follow the rest of their lives，such as taking turns and teamwork. 

Many children's games have a practical side. Children around the world play games that prepare them for work they will do as adults. For example，some Saudi Arabian children play a game called bones. It can be very helpful to exercise their hands and eyes，which is needed in hunting. 

Many sports encourage national or local pride. The most famous games of all，the Olympic Games，bring athletes from around the world together to take part in the friendly competition. People who watch the event wave flags，not just the athlete who has got it. For countries experiencing natural disasters or war，an Olympic win can mean so much. 

Sports are also an event that brings people together. Soccer is the most popular sport in the world. People on all continents play it﹣﹣some for fun and some for a living. Nicolette Iribarne，a Californian soccer player，has discovered a way to spread hope through soccer. He set up an organization which can provide poor children with not only soccer balls but also a hopeful future.

I live in a small town. Our town sits on a large {#blank#}1{#/blank#}（山）overlooking the ocean. It's a p{#blank#}2{#/blank#}good place to live, with fresh air and beautiful views. The p{#blank#}3{#/blank#} isn't too big, so it's quiet and peaceful. We have a small school, a few {#blank#}4{#/blank#}（市场），and a park where everyone gathers on sunny days.

Living in my town does have its challenges, though. Walking or r{#blank#}5{#/blank#} bikes can be tiring when you're heading uphill. Sometimes, it gets windy, and the wind can be much {#blank#}6{#/blank#}（强烈的）than down below.

There are some things we miss out on, l{#blank#}7{#/blank#}having a big shopping mall or a movie theatre nearby. But we have a strong community spirit, and everyone knows each other. We help each other out, and there's always someone to lend a hand, {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(尤其) when people get into trouble.

Overall, I think our living environment is nice. It's not {#blank#}9{#/blank#}（完美的），but it's home, and it's definitely better than living in a crowded（拥挤的）, n{#blank#}10{#/blank#} city. We have fresh air, beautiful views, and a close-knit community. What more could you ask for?

 Sometimes you can learn from your mistakes. If you overspend on something, you should find out the reason and learn from it. Maybe you bought too many cards in one go and later found you didn't really need so many.

 You can also get advice from parents and teachers on how to manage your money better. They have more experience about that.

 So start from now, learn to be a wise spender. This will not only help us manage our money better but also set us on the path to be more responsible(有责任的) in the future.

 Have you noticed that people speak differently to babies compared to adults? Caregivers, especially mothers, change their speech when talking to young children. How? Their speech includes higher pitch (音高) and a wider pitch range (范围). They use shorter sentences and repeat words more often. You can think of it as baby talk. Researchers have recently discovered that dolphins also use baby talk with their babies.

The research team recorded sounds of 19 mother dolphins living in the Sarasota Bay area. The sounds of the same female dolphins were compared when they were with and without their babies. Chart 1 shows the sound of a female dolphin without her baby. The researchers found that when dolphins were with their babies, dolphin mothers had a wider range of frequencies (频率) of the sound-the maximum (最高 ) frequencies were higher and the lowest frequencies were lower.

The findings mirror the way that humans change the speech when speaking to babies. Dolphin baby talk may have a similar purpose to human"baby talk" it may help babies learn how to phonate. We humans don't only use baby talk with little babies, but with the children who are still learning to speak. As a result, our children are able to talk. That's exactly what happens to dolphins. The changes in speech don't just happen when dolphin mothers stay with very young babies, but also between mothers and babies that are closer to"toddler (学步的幼儿)" age. Another possible reason for using specific pitch is to catch the children's attention. It's really important for a young dolphin to know"Oh, Mom is talking to me now."

 The research about baby talk in dolphins reminds us how important it is in humans. Whenever we speak with a young child, how we say things could be as important as what we say.
