Mike lived in a small village near New York two years ago. He had a big brown dog. He liked the dog very much because once it saved a boy.

    One day, his dog stood next to an old well(井)." It stayed there for about half an hour," Bow-wow-wow," barked the dog. It barked and barked. Mike heard it and ran over to the well." Why do you stay here, my dear?" Mike asked. "And why are you barking?" The dog looked at him and looked at the well. "Bow-wow- wow ,”he barked even louder. Mike asked his friend Jim for help." Come here, Jim," he said." The dog wants to tell us something.”

    They looked down in to the well .They saw a. boy there. The boy couldn't speak. He was too scared(惊恐)。Mike went to get a rope( 绳)at once. He climbed down to save the boy with the help of the rope. The dog was really clever.

John and Robert Taylor are brothers. They are always close to each other. They just {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(完成) the school bike {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(比赛). Though(即使) they didn't win, they smiled happily. To John and Robert, winning is not the most important thing. 

Robert cannot move at all and has to stay at home because of a {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(严重的) {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(疾病). So he often feels lonely. He wants to play with other kids.

My favourite animal is chameleons(变色龙). I like them because they can change colours. Chameleons change colours when they're not happy or see something {#blank#}1{#/blank#}, or when they're too cold or too hot. Chameleons have a very long tongue(舌头), so they can use it {#blank#}2{#/blank#} their food easily. I think they're amazing animals!

Also, I {#blank#}3{#/blank#} love elephants. I love their big ears and long trunks. Elephants can pick up {#blank#}4{#/blank#} and put it in their mouths with their trunks. But they are in great danger now. People cut down many trees, so they {#blank#}5{#/blank#} their homes now. Everyone must try their best to save and help them. 

As a writer, I ever volunteered as a "Reading Mum" in a primary school. A boy called Ronny attracted my attention. He 1  every other kid in the first-grade classroom but he was different — he had a speech problem. 

Every time it was Ronny's turn to 2  he sat very close to me and opened the book as if he was opening a box of treasure. I watched his fingers move 3  under each letter as he tried his best to speak. If he read a word with a 4  pronunciation successfully, the biggest smile would spread across his face. After several days, Ronny made great progress, although he was still 5  the level of his grade. 

A few weeks before the school year ended, I 6  Ronny a book — one of those Little Golden Books that only cost $5. He was so surprised at my gift that tears ran down 7  face. 

A few days later, I 8  Ronny on a chair near the playground, the book open in his lap. His teacher said, "9  you gave the book to him. he read it every day. Do you know that's his 10  book he's ever actually owned?"

Hearing that, I felt so 11 . I walked towards Ronny and asked, "Will you read me your book, Ronny?" He 12 . 

And then, for the next few minutes, he read to me more clearly than I'd ever thought. When he finished reading, Ronny closed his book and said with a great 13 , "Good book!" What a powerful contribution the 14  of that Little Golden Book had made to the life of a disabled child!

At that moment, I knew I should do 15  a writer should do — care enough to write a story that could change a child's life; care enough to make a difference. 

Here is the story of a special plant. Because of this plant, the population at that time increased a lot. 

Long ago, there was a man named Chen Zhenlong and he was born in Fujian. Then he went to Luzon island for work. There were many waterways to Luzon, So he took a boat to get there. In Luzon, Chen found that the local people ate sweet potatoes, and they could easily plant them. He wanted to bring the sweet potatoes back to his hometown, because they might change the situation of the food shortage(短缺). But it was not an easy thing. Chen was learning how to grow sweet potatoes while he was thinking about how to bring them back. One day he put a potatoes vine(藤) into the absorbent rope(吸水绳) and then brought it back to his hometown. After getting home , Chen began to plant sweet potatoes and finally he was successful. 

The weather was bad in Fujian and many people didn' t have enough food. Chen told the government that the sweet potatoes could help people. So the government let people plant sweet potatoes. After that, the sweet potatoes became a common plant in China. At that time, 85% of the people depended on sweet potatoes for food. People then had enough food and the population increased quickly.
