    When George was thirty-five, he bought a small plane and learned to fly it. He soon became very good at it and made his plane do ①all kinds of tricks.

    George had a friend. His name was Mark. One day George wanted to take Mark up in his plane. Mark thought, "I've traveled in a big plane several times, but I've never been in a small one. So I'll do."

    They went up, and George flew around for half an hour and did all kind sof tricks in the air.

    When they came down again, Mark was very glad to be back ②safely, and he said to his friend in a shaking (颤抖的)voice ,"Well ,George, thank you very much for those two trips in your plane."

    George was very surprised and said, "Two trips?"

    "Yes, my first and my last," answered Mark.

Gina is a new teacher in a middle school. She lives in San Diego. just fifteen minutes* walk from the beach. So she always1 along the beach after work.

Last week was bus y but happy for Gina. She had a lot of work from Monday to Friday. When the weekend came, she decided2 a good rest. Her weekend began when she met her friends at Sum's Chinese Restaurant on Friday night" My friends and I all like Chinese food, so we often cat together at that restaurant." said Gina 3

On Saturday morning, Gina helped a friend move to a new house. In the afternoon, she went to her tennis class.4 she was new to the sport. she played well. ANe r dinner. Gina went to the Red Onion and danced there until 10:00 p. m. She really enjoyed 5 .

On Sunday, Gina got up at 8:00a. m. and she went to 6 small restaurant near her home for breakfast. She thought the food there was delicious. Then she spent the whole morning reading books. In the afternoon, she went swimming 7 her cousin. For lunch, they had 8 fast food together. In the evening, she went to the San Diego Folk Festival. It was 9 . Gina had great fun there.

Yesterday, Peter had a wonderful trip with his parents on the Ferris wheel (摩天轮) in Bao'an Coastal Cultural Park. He was so amazed at the new city landmark that he wanted to know more about the Ferris wheel. So he looked it up in an encyclopedia online.

In 1892, so mc leaders from Chicago planned a fair. They wanted it to be the greatest fair ever. It would show the newest ideas in science, business and art. They also wanted to build something amazing at the fair. The Eiffel Tower had been built three years before in France. The Chicago leaders wanted something even more impressive. So they asked people to send in designs.

G. W. Ferris was a young engineer. He heard about the fair. He wanted to attract visitors to the fair, so he decided to design a big wheel made of steel (钢). The wheel was 250 feet across. Large cars hung from the end of each spoke (车轮辐). Each car carried 60 people in a big circle through the air.

On May 1, 1893, the fair opened. People from around the world came to see the latest inventions. They felt the heat of new electric stoves. They stood in the cool wind of small fans. They even saw a machine that washed the dishes.

Ferris's wheel was the main attraction at the Chicago Fair. People stood in line to ride on it. They wanted to see the fairgrounds from the wheel's highest point. As the wheel turned upward, some people were afraid. Others were thrilled at what they saw below. Fountains shone in the sunlight. Flags waved in the wind. A train snaked through the grounds. At night, coloured lights li t up the sky.

Today we call these smaller wheels "Ferris wheels".

Good study habits(习惯) are important for all students. When you have good study habits, you'll learn faster.

 Do you usually study in the living room? This is not a good place for study because it is usually too noisy. You need to study in a quiet place, such as your bedroom. A quiet place will help you learn better.

Before you begin to study, do not forget to clean your desk. It helps you study well, too. Light is also important. You'll feel tired easily if there is not enough light.

 Of all the good study habits you can develop (养成), asking questions is the key. Just ask. No one knows everything, but we can always learn from each other by asking questions.

 One easy but important habit is to tell yourself what you're studying for. Put your target(目标) on the wall next to your bed or desk. That means you'll see and think about it every day.

 When do you work best? Are you an early bird, a night owl (猫头鹰), or something in between? Find your most productive work time, and then plan to study at that time.
