I was small for my age. I was shy and sometimes it was hard for me to make friends with others. However, learning came fairly (相当地) easy for me. I was the best in most of my classes, but PE class was my nightmare (噩梦) and made me feel that I was not as good as the others. Miss Forsythe was our PE teacher. She was young and energetic. Everyone liked her. She said that we all had to come to her classes. No one could hide from Miss Forsythe!

    One day she told me that she wanted me to play a game with another girl in a PE show. I was rather worried that I wouldn't do a good job as she explained her idea, but she was excited. With her encouragement, I had no choice but to agree.

    It was a "boy meets girl" game. I played the boy and my classmate, Margaret Ann. played the girl. We were dressed in evening clothes and danced around the floor. According to Miss Forsythe. I had to pick up Margaret Ann when we finished the dance. Since I was not strong enough to pick the tallest girl up, it was she who picked me up. I suddenly felt ten feet tall! It was a huge success and everybody applauded (鼓掌) for our excellent performance. What a wonderful ending! Afterwards. I smiled confidently. Miss Forsythe's understanding and willingness to create a place for me in her show (which certainly did not need me) gave me some much needed confidence. She was and always will be my favorite teacher.

Georgy lived a hard life with his mother Amelia Sedley. He studied in a little local school and did well at all his lessons. Miss Dobbin, Georgy's teacher, followed his progress with interest, and was ready to be helpful and knew how poor the Sedley s were.

"Do let Georgy spend the day with me next Saturday," Miss Dobbin said to Amelia one day. "Miss Osborne, Georgy's aunt, is coming to visit, and I know she'd love to see her brother's son. And who knows, perhaps the boy's grandfather will do something for him one day."

The meeting took place and Miss Osborne liked Georgy a lot. After the meeting, while having dinner at the dinner table with her father that night, Miss Osborne could not hide here motion.

"What's the matter?" old Mr. Osborne shouted at last. Georgy's aunt burst into tears. "Oh sir," she said, "I've seen little Georgy. He's such a beautiful boy—and so like his father!"

The old man did not say a word, but his hands trembled(颤抖), and he sat staring at the table for a long time.

Soon Georgy told his mother about another visitor at the house on a day he spent with Miss Dobbin. "An old gentle nan came today," the boy said. "He watched when I had my riding son. He stared and stared at me.

Amelia knew that the boy had seen his grandfather, and she waited nervously to see what would happen next. After several days, a lawyer came with a letter from Mr. Osborne. "Mr. Osborne offers to take his grandson Georgy, who will then inherit (继承) the fortune (巨款) which would have gone to his father. He will also give Mrs. Amelia Osborne a regular allowance (补贴) to enable her and her family to live in comfort. If she marries again, as is said to be likely, this allowance will still continue. In return, the boy will live with Mr. Osborne, who will allow him to visit his mother once or twice in her own home."

Amelia was rarely angry, but today she stood up, to re this letter into a hundred pieces, and threw them on the floor.

"Marry again! Take money—to part from my child! Who dares to hurt me in this way? Tell Mr. Osborne it is a ridiculous (荒唐的) letter. I will not answer it. Good day, sir!"

Freda Lewis was a popular young woman in town but she sometimes acted strangely.And she was always forgetting something.

One day her mother asked Freda to go to the bank to get some money.It was a really cold，windy，winter day，Freda forgot that she was still wearing the mask and went inside.

Freda walked up to the window，and the teller （出纳员） got panicky because she saw a person wearing a mask.Without saying a word，the teller gave Freda ＄10，000 in an envelope.Freda did not open the envelope before leaving the bank and had no idea she was carrying so much money.

After Freda left，the teller called the police and said that her bank had just been held up by a robber （劫匪） who was wearing a mask.Freda was on her way back home when she noticed there were three police cars.The police made her stop.The poor girl was frightened to death，and didn't know why the police would be after her.The police pulled her out of the car and forced her to the ground.

When a police officer pulled off the mask，they all found it was Freda，and realized that someone had made a mistake.Once the police explained why they were there，Freda told them that she always wore a mask in winter and that she must have forgotten she was wearing it when she entered the bank.

When the police asked the bank teller if Freda had demanded the money，the teller realized that she had made a big mistake.Luckily，no one was hurt，and everything was returned to the bank.

It was an unusual(不寻常) day for the Jacksons. The children usually go to school by car1 today they walked to school.2 mother , Mrs Jackson, usually cooks a meal at home in the morning, but this morning she 3 lots of things in the supermarket.What about Mr.Jackson？He usually drinks tea and reads 4 interesting book in the afternoon, but this afternoon he made some 5 for the whole family. They were delicious. The children usually do their homework 6 6 in the evening but this evening they had a party in the garden.The Grandpa sang songs 7 children. He sang very 8 .The children met new friends,9 games and had 10 presents.They had a nice party and enjoy themselves.

Not long ago, I decided to read a lot of books to {#blank#}1{#/blank#}（增长） my knowledge. So I went to the library and {#blank#}2{#/blank#}（返回） with several books. But after a few days, I felt I was not {#blank#}3{#/blank#}（耐心） enough. It was impossible for me to calm down to read a {#blank#}4{#/blank#}（整个） book. I didn't know how to deal with this problem. Then suddenly one day, I had an idea: why not make reading fun?

From then on, I knew what I {#blank#}5{#/blank#} （确切） needed, so I started reading books widely. I read different kinds of books, like storybooks, science books, {#blank#}6{#/blank#}（小说） and so on. And I also made a list of books I read every month. When I read books, I tried to understand the writers' {#blank#}7{#/blank#} （快乐） and sadness. And I also read books in different places. Sometimes I liked reading in the library. Sometimes I liked reading{#blank#}8{#/blank#} （在……旁边） a peaceful lake. After reading books, I made myself understood by expressing my ideas more {#blank#}9{#/blank#}（清楚）. Now I am more interested in reading. And books have become a part of my life. Books are great wealth for me.

Books are like our friends. They are very {#blank#}10{#/blank#} （帮助） to us. We can learn a lot from the books we read. They can also give us a lot. So start reading now, or one day you will regret not having read enough books.

Turning Garbage into New Earth

My father is a quiet and shy man. He has his own creative ideas, but he 1  keeps them to himself. Don't get me wrong. If you ask him for advice, he is always glad to 2  his ideas with you. He goes about his business without too much excitement. There is one thing that really gets him 3 . Just mention the word "rubbish" to him! He is especially interested in 4  the rubbish problem. "We've become a throwaway society. We buy something, and then we throw it away. We shouldn't5  doing this, " he said. 

Last year, my father decided to do something about the wasted 6  we were throwing away. A family 7  nearly 500 pounds of food waste each year. Don't 8 , though. There is something that we can do about it. Food waste is also known 9 "organic matter(有机物)". If it is properly 10 , it can be changed from rubbish to compost(混合肥料) which can be added to vegetable gardens to make the plants grow really well. 

"We are going to start composting our food waste, "11  decided one night at dinner. "I bought a compost bin today. From now on, we should put all our food waste in the compost bin 12  throwing it away. Nature will slowly 13  it into compost. In a few months, we will have rich compost to add to our 14  . "

 It took a while to get used to it, 15  soon, we all got into the habit of taking our food waste to the compost bin in the backyard. Three months later, we were excited to find the bin full of rich compost!
