Last June, when my mother told me she had planned a four-day visit to Dubai with me, I was very excited. Tourists from all over the world come to see the sights in this amazing city and experience its culture.

On our first day, we visited the Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world. It is 828 metres high and it holds several records. After that we visited the Arabian Desert. The next day, we visited the Palm Jumeirah, the world's largest man-made island. The island is made from all natural materials (材料) because the Prince of Dubai wanted to give it a more natural look. The island itself looks like a palm tree from above, with one main strip(条) of land and 16 strips, 8 on each side. They all come from the middle, and make the island appear like a palm tree.

Dubai is home to the world's largest shopping centre. So on the third day, after a short boat ride away from our hotel, my mother and I spent the whole day shopping there. We returned home in the afternoon the next day. It was a fantastic trip.

How to Choose books you'll love

Do you have trouble choosing a book to read? With so many choices it can be hard to decide which books are right for you. Here are some tips of choosing the ones you're more likely to enjoy.

Thinking about stories you've enjoyed in the past can give you clues about what genres① you prefer. Maybe you like science fiction, which transports you to completely made-up worlds. Or perhaps you like historical fiction, made-up stories based on true events. Nonfiction is another choice. Think about the topics that interest you or an interest you have and want to know more about. 

Ask forrecommendations②

You can visit the library and ask a librarian to guide you to the shelves that feature the genre you'd like to dive into. Another idea is to ask friends with similar tastes what books they have liked and would recommend. You can also find a list of recommendations from the Internet. 

Search for "readalikes"

If you enjoyed a particular book, you may like others that are similar in style, known as a "readalike." You can look up a writer whose book you liked in the past, and find out whether they have written sequels③ or other books you might enjoy. If you have read through an entire series and are looking for new writers, you can checkout the website www.baidu.com and put in the name of the writer you like, the site's search engine will suggest similar writers to you. 

Take the stress off

You won't love every book you read, and that's OK! No matter how far along you are in the book you are reading, if you don't like it, it's fine to stop reading it. When you take the stress off yourself to finish a book you're not enjoying, you free yourself up to choose another book. 

White Day(白色情人节) is a holiday celebrated on March 14th，one month after Valentine's Day(情人节). In Japan this day is widely celebrated，much like Valentine's Day. It is also celebrated in South Korea and Taiwan，China. 

In Japan，the difference between Valentine's Day and White Day is about who gives the gifts. In these cultures，women present chocolates to men as gifts on Valentine's Day. One month later，men should buy two to three times more expensive gifts for the women on White Day. Candy，hand­made cookies and white chocolate are popular gifts. Do you want to say "I love you. " to someone you care about? No worries if you have missed Valentine's Day. March 14th is White Day. It is also Japan's Valentine's Day—a day to show our loved ones just how much we care about them. 

Yet it is not clear where White Day came from. Some local candy makers say that they invented the day to give candy，in response to(回应) Valentine's Day. As most candy is made of white sugar，the day is called White Day. People also think that the color white stands for purity(纯洁) and love. No matter where it comes from，just make it a day to care about your loved ones!

Loss(失去) makes us sad, but how can we face it in our lives? The Boy and the Heron has something to say. 

It tells the story of a 12-year-old boy named Mahito. He lost his mother during a war(战争) and he was sad. One day, he met a talking heron(苍鹭). They went on a journey in a dream like the world. Japanese director(导演) Hayao Miyazaki, made this movie for his grandson. He hopes to tell his grandson through it, "I am leaving something here for you. " At the movie's end, Mahito learned how to move on. He left the magical world. The real world might be hard, but it's full of kindness. 

French writer Romain Rolland once said, "There is only one kind of heroism in the world: to see the world as it is and to love it." The movie won an Oscar award(奖). You can watch it in the cinema or on the Internet. 

Lijiang is a must-stop for a trip to Yunnan. It provides a mix of ancient buildings, local food and traditional cultures.

One of the best places to visit is Lijiang Old Town. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is known for its building styles and colorful flowers. If you walk through the town, you will find local shops and they are selling handmade crafts (手工品).

Lijiang is also famous for its delicious local food. You should try roasted lamb (烤羊) and wild mushroom (蘑菇) soup. You can also enjoy tea with some local snacks.

What's more, you can better understand Naxi style and culture here. You can find Naxi traditional buildings everywhere. You can also bear local people speaking Naxi language, and admire Naxi writings.
