In San Francisco, there is a special group of volunteers. They call themselves Friends of the Urban (城市的) Forest (FUF). These volunteers want to {#blank#}1{#/blank#}. Every year, the FUF plants nearly 1,000 trees.

The FUF welcomes new volunteers all year round and in all parts of its work. On Weekend Planting Days, FUF volunteers work with common citizens (市民) to plant trees. The planting usually runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. After the work is done, everyone {#blank#}2{#/blank#} over a community lunch.

On Thursday Planting Days, the FUF plants "replacement (替换) trees". As their name suggests, these trees replace trees {#blank#}3{#/blank#}. Planting Leaders are very experienced volunteers. They are able to help other volunteers at planting events. Planting Leaders usually wear a special FUF T-shirt. Some new volunteers know little about "replacement trees". They can easily find Planting Leaders and {#blank#}4{#/blank#}.

In ancient(古代的) China, people(人) have three names: the {#blank#}1{#/blank#} name, given name, and courtesy name(字).

 Look at Li Bai, his family name is Li, his given name is Bai and {#blank#}2{#/blank#} courtesy name is Taibai. Some people call him Li Bai, {#blank#}3{#/blank#} some people call him Li Taibai.

 When do people use their given {#blank#}4{#/blank#} and courtesy names? When(当……的时候) people are at home, they usually use their given names. But when they are {#blank#}5{#/blank#} at home, people use their courtesy names.

China is a large country. It has special cultures with a very long history. 

Chinese food plays {#blank#}1{#/blank#} important role for Chinese families. Chinese people eat their meals with chopsticks. One of the main foods {#blank#}2{#/blank#} （be） rice. Tea is a favorite drink. 

Chinese calendar is different from the one in {#blank#}3{#/blank#} （west） countries. New Year's Day is in late winter. It is also called the Spring Festival. And it also has some special {#blank#}4{#/blank#}（tradition） cultures. For example，sweeping the floor {#blank#}5{#/blank#}New year's Day sweeps away all the old year's bad {#blank#}6{#/blank#} （lucky）. 

The Chinese zodiac，known as Sheng Xiao，follows a twelve-year cycle. Each year is {#blank#}7{#/blank#}（name） after an animal. For example，the year that begins in 2022 is the year of the tiger. 

Chinese is a little difficult language. Chinese writing {#blank#}8{#/blank#} （develop） for over 4，000 years. It has thousands of characters. A character stands for a word and also a {#blank#}9{#/blank#} （mean）. Besides Putonghua，Chinese people speak some other {#blank#}10{#/blank#}（form） of the language，and there are many kinds of dialects （方言）. 

{#blank#}1{#/blank#}"Because" and "so" shouldn't be put together. But some students often add "so" to the sentence with "because".

{#blank#}2{#/blank#} Some students may be lucky to get the right answers. But if they depend only on luck failure may come.

{#blank#}3{#/blank#} Some students pretend that they know the grammar rules but in fact, they don't.

{#blank#}4{#/blank#} Students need to learn a lesson from mistakes so that they won't make them next time.

{#blank#}5{#/blank#} A Some students seem to be able to recite(背诵)the English texts in groups. But if they asked to do it alone, they can't.

A. The old emperor liked group music. A man knew this and joined the music team. But the new emperor enjoyed the music played by every single musician. Theman without any music ability was afraid and ran away.

F. A hard-working young man was so poor that he had to make a small hole in the wall to get light from next door at night. He read a lot of books and became an important officer for the emperor.
