Family rules play an important part in family life because they make family life more peaceful.
Good family rules guide children's behavior(行为) properly. They should describe exactly what good behavior is, like this rule "We speak to each other with respect（尊敬），using 'please' when we ask for something. " They should be easy for children to understand, like "Use a quiet voice at home". They should also tell children what to do, rather than（而不是）what not to do. "Keep your room tidy by putting your clothes away" is always better than "Don't be messy".
When making rules, parents should consider the most important things. These include rules about physical behavior, respect for each other, and so on. Here are two examples. The first one is "We wait until others have finished talking before we talk". The second one is "Remember to knock before going into others' rooms".
All family members should have the chance to make family rules. Children as young as 3 years old can be part of talking about the rules. As children get older, they get to know what the rules should be. By coming up with family rules themselves, children can accept the rules easily.
In short, good family rules are an important tool for educating(教育) children. After making family rules, children should see them as part of their daily lives and always follow them.
