Few families in the United States do not have either a radio or a television set. Both of them have become a necessary part of our daily lives, keeping us filled with the news of the day, teaching us in many fields of interest, and making us happy with songs, dances and other performances.

Marconi, the Italian inventor, gave us the radio. He probably didn't know how much his great invention would have done for the world in the years to come. Radio had perhaps done as much as any other communication tool. Things of the world can be reported to people everywhere a few seconds after they happened. Travellers in out-of-the-way places, ships at sea, even astronauts around the earth are able to keep in touch with each other by radio.

Television is another important invention. It lets us see as well as hear the actor. Since its

appearance, TV has done a great deal in the daily lives of people everywhere. Many programmes are now televised in colour.

Perhaps the most modern invention is the "Telstar", a"star"moving around the earth. It makes it possible for the people all over the world to be closer than ever before. Now a family in Chicago can watch a motor car race in Italy on TV, a table tennis competition in Beijing or a volleyball match in Japan as these events are actually happening!

The year is 2045. A group of robots take part in the World Cup. Robots? Is that possible? Many scientists believe it can happen, because there are already robots that can play football. Of course, today's robots don't just play sports.

Early robots could do easy things, mainly in factories. Humans operated (操作) them. However, today's robots can operate on their own. Some can only move around a little, like the robots which can sweep the floor, but others, for example, Honda's ASIMO can do much more. He can run, climb, dance, and even play football.

Then there are robots which look like humans. These robots have faces and can show feelings. Such robots can learn new things, and show us how they "feel". Actroid -DER is one of them.

Scientists are also making robots that look and act like animals. At NASA, scientists are making a robot snake which can get into holes (洞). One day, it may help scientists look for signs of life on Mars. There are other animal robots. The frog-bot can jump over things. The sticky-bot can walk up walls. There's even a robot called Water Runner that can walk on water.

But can a robot football team ever play as well as a human team? Many scientists think so. Anything is possible. One day, they may even be world champions (冠军)!

Welcome to Sunshine Middle School! Sunshine Middle School is a beautiful and modern(现代的) school. Our classrooms are big and clean. Our teachers are kind. I'm Mike, a student of Sunshine Middle School. We have many rules(规则) in our school. I think they are good for us. Let me tell you something about them.

On weekdays, we have to wear our school uniforms(制服). I think it's good. Because we should think more about our lessons, not our clothes. We can't be late for every class. We have to listen to the teacher carefully in class. We must finish homework on time after class. We can't eat in the classroom. But we can drink milk and eat fruit(水果) after class. I think it's good for our body. Last, we can't take mobile phones(手机) to school.

We can't play games on school nights. I don't like this rule. I know we must study hard, but we need to relax, too. I think many rules are good for us, we must follow the rules.
