Our earth is in trouble. Our drinking water is becoming dirtier, and the air is not as clean as before. People and factories are polluting the air, rivers, lakes and seas. You may think there is nothing you can do to help. That's not true. {#blank#}1{#/blank#}

Cars burn oil. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} Some people believe that too much CO₂ is making the earth warmer than ever. {#blank#}3{#/blank#} This can save some oil and produce less CO₂.

{#blank#}4{#/blank#}So turn off the air conditioner(空调) when you don't need to use it. Use lights that save energy. Use fewer things that cannot be used again. When you buy something, consider those made from things that can be used again first.

A lot of water is needed for a shower. So take shorter showers. {#blank#}5{#/blank#}

Every small action can make a big difference to our earth. Let's take action to protect it.

C. This will make a lot of CO₂ into the air.

D. So try to walk, ride a bike or take a bus.

Nadia Clarke, Seventeen-year-old,talks about her African experience.

Last summer I got the chance to spend a month helping out in a hospital in Africa. I had one year left at school, and I was interested in studying medicine at university. I thought it was the perfect chance to get some experience and to see if I really wanted to be a doctor.

It was a month that changed my life. I saw a world and it is very different to mine in so many ways. I was surprised at how poor so many of the families were there and how difficult their lives could be. But I was also surprised at how actively people face their everyday lives. The way they came together and helped each other touched me a lot, and I think a lot of us here in the UK have forgotten it. I think many of us don't get to know how lucky we are.

My work in the hospital was hard. I spent a lot of time cleaning floors and taking temperatures, and I also got to spend some time giving medicine. And I got the chance to talk to some doctors and ask them about their work. I saw some truly awful things in the hospital, but none of them changed my mind about being a doctor. In fact, they only made me more certain to do medicine!

When I finish, I know clearly what I'm going to do: I want to work for an international group like the Red Cross and spend my life helping people all over the world. I can't wait to get started.

①China published the world's first highly clear lunar geologic (地质的) atlas (地图集) on April 21. According to the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), it will provide up-to-date information for future lunar research and exploration.

②"These maps will help choose locations for future lunar research stations," Ouyang Ziyuan, a well-known lunar scientist, said. "They can also help us better know about the Earth and other planets in the solar system, like Mars."

③The world has seen great progress in the field of lunar science over the past half a century. However, the lunar geologic atlas that was developed during the Apollo Program remained unchanged. "As lunar geologic studies develop, those old maps can no longer satisfy future needs," said Liu Jianzhong, a CAS researcher.

④Since 2012, Ouyang and Liu have led a team of scientists from several research centers in compiling (编制) this atlas. Their work was mainly built on information gained from China's Chang'e Program. Information from other research projects and international tasks was also used.

⑤The new geologic atlas, which is published in both Chinese and English, presents a scale (比例尺) of 1: 2.5 million. Compared with the 1:5 million scale lunar maps from the US in 2020, these larger scale maps show more details. As well as the geologic history of the moon, they provide information on its 14 types of structures (结构) and 17 types of rocks. A total of 12,341 impact craters (撞击坑) and 81 impact basins have also been marked.

⑥This atlas is set to serve many useful purposes, such as lunar resources research and science education. Liu said the upcoming Chang'e-6 task would also use the atlas. "Our maps can help the research by providing scientific support," he explained.

⑦"Compiling the atlas was a huge task, which included years of effort from a large number of researchers," said Gregory Michael, a German scientist. "It will be a starting point for every new question of lunar geology."

 On Oct 11, robot history was made when Ai- Da, a human- like robot artist talked at a meeting in the UK. The topic for the meeting was"A Creative Future".

 Ai- Da paints using cameras in her eyes and robotic arms. She" thinks" and answers questions using AI algorithms (算法). She has painted the UK queen and had her work presented in galleries(画廊).

 Describing herself, Ai- Da told people at the meeting that"I am a robot and I depend on computer programs and algorithms" and" although not alive,I can still create art". Amusingly, at the meeting, Ai- Da" slept"— it shut down and had to be restarted. But her ability to answer questions in real time shows the huge developments of AI. These are developments that will continue.

 One person who seems interested in this is Elon Musk. He is planning on creating his own AI robots for his company, Tesla. Musk presented Tesla's human- like robot, named Optimus, at Tesla's AI Day on Sept 30. Tesla showed videos of their robot doing simple tasks like carrying boxes and watering plants, said CNN.

 With robots becoming more and more part of our daily lives, we may have to learn to live with them. But will people be happy to have these robotic friends or will they feel threatened(威胁的) by them? As Ai- Da said," Technology can be both a threat and an opportunity."

It's a Miracle!

John Ogburn doesn't remember a single thing about Monday, June 26, 2017. He doesn't remember waking up that morning, or helping prepare breakfast for his three young children, or kissing his wife, Sarabeth Ogburn, goodbye. He doesn't remember driving to the Panera Bread restaurant, or going to his favorite seat in the back, where he regularly sat, working on his laptop. And he doesn't remember falling to the floor at about 4:15p.m. His heart had gone completely still.

Panera Bread workers April Bradley and her brother found John had passed out in the back of the restaurant. He was lying on the carpet. His face was dark purple. "It was the scariest thing I've ever seen,"Bradley says. She dialled 911. It was 4:17 p.m.

Luckily,the police officer Lawrence Guiler was about 50 feet away. Another lucky thing was that before joining the police, he had been an EMT.

Guiler arrived at Panera in less than a minute and began CPR（心肺复苏）. Within 30 seconds, another police officer, Nikolina Bajic, rushed in to help. A few minutes later, four firefighters arrived. They put an oxygen mask on John's face. They took turns performing CPR. They also used a defibrillator （通过电击使心脏恢复正常跳动的除颤器）to try to shock his heart into restarting.It didn't.

They shocked him again. And again. And again. They gave him a shot of epinephrine（肾上腺素）.Then another.Then another. Nothing. No sign of life. More than 20 minutes had gone by.

"Nobody wanted to give up on him,"says Bajic.

Around 4:30 p.m.,while John was receiving CPR, his iPhone started ringing. It was his wife. "I called a couple of times, but he didn't answer,"Sarabeth says."I thought he was in a meeting."

A little over an hour later, she received a call and rushed to the hospital. Someone informed her that John had received CPR for 38 minutes before they found pulse（脉搏）.Doctors still can't explain how this happened.

Surprisingly，the only aftereffects （事后影响）were some short-term memory loss and a sore （疼痛的）chest from the CPR.

Dinner customs are different around the world. If you are a dinner guest in Ghana, this information will help you. 

In Ghana dinner is usually from four in the afternoon to six in the evening. But there are no strict rules about time in Ghana. Whenever a guest arrives, a family offers food. 

When you arrive, the host takes you to the living room first. At this time everyone welcomes you. Then you go to the dining room. There you wash your hands in a bowl of water. All the food is on the table. 

In Ghana you usually eat with your fingers. You eat from the same dish as everyone else. But you eat from one side of the dish only. It is not polite to get food from the other side of the dish. After dinner, you wash your hands again in a bowl of water. 

There is a dish called fufu in most meals in Ghana. People in Ghana make fufu from the powder of some plants. Sometimes they cut the fufu with a saw(锯) because it is very hard and like rubber. You must chew fufu well, or you can get sick. You eat fufu with the fingers of your right hand only.
