Emma is a nice girl. Today is her l lth birthday. She has her birthday party in the park (公园). Emma and her friends all like the park. Emma's mom and sister put(放) some food on the table. Dad puts something for games on it. Emma is in a purple skirt. She likes the color very much. At about 10:00 in the morning, Emma's friends come to the park with gifts(礼物). Emma opens(打开) the gifts and says, "Thank you all! I like all of them. " Emma and her fiends eat the food and play fun games. They have a very good time at the party.

Jamie was tired. She had been on her feet for hours. Her mom {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(拥有) a small but busy restaurant in town. Three of the workers were {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(生 病的 ) that morning. There was a big food festival in the city park that day. and Jamie was a big {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (迷) of it. Jamie {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (仅) wanted to sit down for a while. {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (代替), she walked around the restaurant with no break. As soon as she {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(清理) one table,a new set of customers(顾客) walked in. That meant more orders and more coffee.

"Order up!"called the cook from the kitchen. Jamie was very sleepy. She didn't move, and just thought about {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(令人惊叹的) foods in the festival from all over the world.Jami {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(想象) the delicious smells(气味) of new and special foods.

"{#blank#}9{#/blank#}(赶快) up, Jamie!"said the cook.

"I'm coming," Jamie answered in a{#blank#}10{#/blank#} (焦虑的) voice.

"Sunrise gold" is a color that means a lot to me. The color mixes gold with a bit of red and yellow. I like it because it gives me peace, energy and hope in the face of difficulty.

When I was in the eighth grade, I took part in a speech competition. Although I made all my efforts, I didn't win. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} I had trouble falling asleep that night. It was 3:30 in the morning, and there was nothing but me and my unhappy heart. I got up and went upstairs to the roof (屋顶) top to clear my mind.

{#blank#}2{#/blank#} At first, it was orange and red, but after a short while, the sun awoke from its sleep and painted the sky with its gold colour. The sunlight shone on everything—trees, roofs and streets. {#blank#}3{#/blank#} The rays of light woke up the gentle morning wind and sent it moving across the field, touching my face and everything gently. It also woke up the early birds, which were singing happily.

There and then I realized that past is history, no matter how much we regret it. I thought to myself, "Maybe I can start once more, just like the dawn(黎明)." {#blank#}4{#/blank#}

Now, whenever I face difficulties, I remember what the "sunrise gold" made me understand that morning.

D. I went downstairs, feeling energetic and hopeful.

E. I stayed there until a ray of light appeared in the sky.

How do you usually go to school? Most of you may go to school  {#blank#}1{#/blank#} foot or by bike, {#blank#}2{#/blank#} Wu Yahan rides a horse to school every day.

Wu Yahan is a student from Inner Mongolia(内蒙古) in China. She is 13 years old. It is about ten {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (kilometer) from her home to school. In her class, some parents drive {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (they) children to school every day. But Yahan's father doesn't do it like them. He {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (ask) his daughter to ride a horse to school because he thinks it is good exercise and that is good for her {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (healthy). Yahan is not good at {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (ride) the horse at first. But with her father's help, she can ride it very well now. The horse runs {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (quick) and it only takes Yahan half {#blank#}9{#/blank#} hour to get to school. Now her classmates think it is cool on the horse and they want {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (go) to school on a horse, too.

 Born in Shaoxing, Zhejiang province, in1868, Cai Yuanpei had a thirst for knowledge from a young age. He {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (接受)a classical education and traveled to Beijing at age 25, where he placed 37th in the country in the imperial examinations and got the high level jinshi {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (学位) in 1892. Then he went to the Hanlin Academy. 

 By the turn of the {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (第二十) century, the Qing dynasty was in a mess. Cai was{#blank#}4{#/blank#}(不满意) with Qing rule. He decided to study German and dreamed of continuing his education in {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (欧洲). 

 In 1907, his dream of studying came true. He learned some good teaching {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (方法). In1911, Cai returned to China, look forward to taking part in the building of a new nation. 

 Cai returned to Peking university {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (后来) in 1919 as a headmaster. Cai {#blank#}8{#/blank#}33(传播) the values of free thinking in his class and was loved by his students. This great edu cator {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (死亡) in Hong Kong in 1940 at the age of 72. But his {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (承诺) to open discussion and effort in improve the level of education left a lasting mark on the period. He is thought as a hero to this day. 

Oliver Twist was brought up in the workhouse where only the poor and homeless lived. He was pale, thin and short for his age. The boys ate meals in a large stone hall. They ate a bowl of thin soup three times a day, with half a piece of bread on Sundays. The boys were always hungry and ate everything up. The bowls never needed washing. The boys polished(擦亮) them with their spoons(勺子) until they shone. 

 The boys got hungrier and hungrier until one day they intended to do something . One boy had to ask for more food that evening. So they decided who would go by drawing lots. Each boy took a piece of paper and anyone who got paper with a mark on it would do that. It turned out that Oliver Twist was that boy. 

 The evening arrived, the soup was served, and soon the bowls were empty again in a few seconds. The boys were desperate(绝望) with hunger. With fear, Oliver went up to the master who was a fat and healthy man. He held up his bowl and said, "Please, sir, I want some more. "

 The master turned very pale when he heard Oliver's words. "What?"said the master ina surprising voice. 

"Please, sir, "repeated Oliver, "Would you please give me more? I want some more. "The master hit him with the spoon heavily, then took Oliver's arms and shouted to tell the board(理事会). 

"He asked for more?" Mr Limbkins, the fattest board member, asked in horror. "The boy is ungrateful!" "That boy will be hanged in the future!" said another board member. Oliver was then locked up in a dark room.
