Children love their parents, but I didn't get on well with my parents before. I hardly talked to my parents, because they liked to 1 me with my sister. And that made me unhappy. I sometimes argued 2 them for that.

    However, I wanted to show them that I could do things as well as my sister. Then I began to spend most of my free time painting in my bedroom. Luckily, my art teacher, Miss Green, 3 to help me a lot. She taught me some drawing 4 to improve my painting. She was the only person I would like to talk with.

    One day, I told Miss Green about my problem. She encouraged me to enter a painting competition. In her mind，the best way to communicate with my parents was to prove（证明）5. I took her advice.

    Several days later, Miss Green told me the result. I was very happy and excited 6 I won the first prize! My parents were very 7 and I could see that they were very happy. And they began to care more about me. Now 8 between my parents and me have become very good. And I think it's very important to have someone to talk with.

Jessica stopped to look at the poster in the hallway (走廊) at school. There was a competition from CNSA, one lucky student would have the chance to do his or her experiment in space. But it was just in four weeks, Jessica felt worried and she didn't even get an idea for the project.

Jessica had a biology class next period, and she stayed for a while to talk to her biology teacher, Ms. Li.

"Do you have any idea what I can do for the competition, Ms. Li?" Ms. Li looked at Jessica thoughtfully. "Well, Jessica, I can't tell you exactly what to do, but maybe you could think of an experiment that will be good for people's health. Many plants in China are used in medical treatments. You could consider doing an experiment using one of them." Answered Ms. Li. Jessica smiled and said, "Thank you, Ms. Li, you've given me a seed (种子) of a thought!" Jessica walked away and headed straight to the library. She asked the librarian to help her find books about plant science. After looking through many books, her eyes were drawn to the picture of foxglove (毛地黄), a plant which was in her grandparents' garden.

Then, Jessica did further reading about this plant. She found that it was often used to treat the irregular heartbeats. She was excited about her discovery and believed that her experiment would find out if foxglove would grow more rapidly in space. In the next few weeks, Jessica designed an experiment that tested how different light, soil and water can affect the growth of foxglove plants. A week before the competition, Jessica completed her project, made a few changes her teacher suggested and mailed it to CNSA.

A break one day, Jessica told Ms. Li, "My work is done. The next step is...space!"

In spring 2021, Battersea Arts Centre, a venue（地点）in southwest London, introduced "pay what you can" for all its shows. The reason is simple—they believe that everyone should be able to be a part of the great work, regardless of(不管) their ability to pay. Should all shows be "paid what you can"?

Some supporters believe it's a good idea. In the 17th century when Shakespeare was writing his plays, everyone went to the theatre. The cheapest ticket in London was one penny. This is how shows should be open to everyone, no matter how much they earn. Paying what you can is in the spirit of Shakespeare's time, and it opens the arts to all. It also shows that many art venues are a type of charity(慈善机构) that provide public benefits and spread culture. That doesn't mean the show isn't good. 

However, this idea makes some people worried and some opponents(反对者) are against it. Society expects art for free—free art shows, free music, free videos. ____ For some people "pay what you can" would mean "pay what you want to"—nothing. It is expensive to put on a show. If the audience want to see a good show, they should pay a part of what it costs to put on. A survey by Arts Professional magazine found that many people a-void shows not because they are too expensive but be-cause they don't think they will enjoy themselves. Art venues should focus on making the best shows they can, and price the tickets to reflect the quality(质量). 

A blind (失明的) man had a newspaper stand (货摊). It was next to a bank. On the other side of the street, there was {#blank#}1{#/blank#} school.

One day, the bank was closed. Some men broke in and {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(take) a lot of money from the bank. Then, a police officer came{#blank#}3{#/blank#} asked two questions at the school: Did anyone see who did it and what were they like? No one was able {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (answer). Then the officer heard a voice saying  {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (slow), "I know." The blind man stood in the doorway. "Three men took the money," he said. "I could tell by hearing {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(they) steps (脚步). They ran down the street." "I wish someone could tell me {#blank#}7{#/blank#} they looked like," the officer said. "One man had red hair," said the man. "He could not run fast, because one of the other men shouted at him to hurry while they {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(take) the money. He called him Red."

Two {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(week) went by. The police caught the three men. One had something wrong {#blank#}10{#/blank#} his leg. He had red hair. The man was right though he couldn't see at all. 

Being outgoing is good for your life. Those who are more outgoing like to meet lots of people and have more fun in life. In fact, being outgoing is not so hard as you think. Even shy people can be outgoing. 

 You can start becoming outgoing with your best friends or a group of friends. But the real challenge comes when you meet strange people or new friends. Smile more, and usually they will return your smile. In this way, you may have some talks. 

 Start a talk. Just a simple" Hello" or"How is it going" is a good start. If you want to make interesting talks, you should read news in the newspapers and prepare your views(观点), or surf the Internet for new information and then keep that in mind. 

 The easiest way to become more outgoing is to go out. This is also the most important step. Go to a park, beach, club, party or any other place that you think can be fun, and you may make new friends there. 

①Do you compare yourself to other people? Perhaps your best friend receives something you really want for Christmas, or you're not allowed to go to a concert but your brother or sister is. Even though comparisons are common and can sometimes be helpful, concentrating on your own progress is important for your happiness.

②Why does concentrating on me matter? "We often compare ourselves to others who are doing better or not as well as ourselves," says Dr. Abbott, a psychologist (心理专家). "But I suggest comparing achievements to your past self (where you started) and your future self (where you'd like to get to)." This can make you take pride in what you've achieved and excited about what you might do. Psychologist Jack agrees and says that concentrating on your own purposes is more worthwhile than always trying to come out on top.

③Do comparisons make you happy? Comparing yourself to those around you is natural and we often do it without realizing it. It can help us to find our achievements and to form friendships with new people who have similar interests. However, it's important to remember that nobody is perfect in real life. It's also important to take note of how the comparison is making you feel.

④"If you begin to feel quite low, focus on your own strengths and what you are good at," says Abbott. In other words, you can ask yourself questions like "____", "What do I feel good about?" and "What improvements can I notice?", which can help you trust yourself.

⑤Maybe sometimes you are wondering "What if all my friends are better than me?". Dr. Antrobus says that jealousy (妒忌) is an ordinary feeling but focusing on improving your own performance can help you feel just as successful. He also mentions bat learning to celebrate your friends' success can not only help to cheer your friends up but also help you feel good. "It will encourage you to build each other up."
