An old man was sitting on the sofa with Mike, his 45-year-old son. Suddenly a dove (鸽子) landed on the ground. 

The father asked his son, "What is this?"

The son replied, "It is a dove."

After a few minutes, the father asked his son for the second time, "What is this?"

The son said, "Father, I have just told you. It's a dove."

After a little while, the old father asked his son for the third time, "What is this?"

This time Mike could not control his anger and shouted, "It's a dove, a dove. Why do you keep asking me the same question again and again? I have told you so many times 'IT IS A DOVE!' Don't you understand this?"

The old man silently took out an old diary, turned to a page and showed it to Mike. Though a little impatient (不耐烦), Mike began to read it. 

"Today my little son aged three was sitting with me on the sofa, when a dove landed on the ground, and my son asked me what it was. I smiled at him, said it was a dove and hugged (拥抱) him. After a while Mike asked me again and I did the same. Pointing to the same dove, little Mike asked me what it was 23 times and I kept on answering his question and hugging him every time."

Something gently touched Mike's heart. His face turned red with shame for being so impatient to his father and he hugged him tightly (紧紧地).

Students at Sanhe Township Primary School enjoy playing soccer. It is art important part of their school life. Every student at the school. has a soccer lesson once a week. Students of all age groups play soccer matches every month. 

The school is in the mountains and has poor teaching resources. Most of its students are left-behind children, and very few of them can go to high school or university. To help students have a good future, ten years ago, Sun Xiaoming, the headteacher of the school, set up a girls' soccer team. He picked 20 girls from the fourth and fifth grades and offered them free training, clothing and meals at school. 

Primary school students are short and thin, so it's difficult for them to play basketball or volleyball. But soccer is different. It is cheap and easy to learn. Students can play it by a team on the playground, or practice it alone at home. For these reasons, soccer is the perfect choice for the students. 

The students really love soccer. They keep practicing every day. Many of them play it well. Some of them get into great middle or high schools. Some of them make it into soccer clubs and become professional players. 

Soccer is not just a simple sport. More importantly, it means a chance to help those students get out of the mountains and live a better life. 

Every day，a bus driver called Cheng Lin picks up students in a far﹣away village in Chongqing. The bus driver stops1 he notices a schoolbag hanging on the door of an old house. After a moment，a boy2 outside and gets on the bus. 

The boy's parents work far from home and leave3 in the village. Though the boy is far from his parents，he is trying hard4 his study. He goes to school in the city every week. He and5 driver，Mr Cheng Lin，have a special habit. Every time the6 schoolbag is hanging outside the house，the driver knows that the boy needs a ride.

This summer, my family and I visited Bama in Guangxi, a place famously known as the"longevity village"(长寿村). Many elders there 1 to be over 100 years old. Knowing that the average human lifespan (寿命) in China is around 78 years,I was 2 about this amazing place and wanted to find out what makes it so special.

Upon arrival the first thing I noticed was the fresh and clean air. Local people say there is more oxygen there due to the 3 population and the richness of plants. Bama was cool and a bit humid 4 it was mid-August, making it perfect for a walk.

On the second day, we 5 Bama's famous"magnetic cave"(磁洞). It is believed that the strong magnetic field inside can help people live longer and treat various diseases. Although there is no scientific practice, I felt 6 after spending some time inside.

For meals, we had soup dishes that, according to the locals, could increase appetite(食欲) and make people 7 . The soup was just a mix of tofu, lettuce, and water, but I had two bowls. I didn't notice any increase in intelligence, but I did eat more than usual after having the soup. I also observed that the villagers 8 ate meat and mostly ate vegetables and tofu. Each dish was so delicious that I couldn't wait for it to 9 , and by the end of the meal, I was sweating.

After 10 Bama myself, I believe that the environment and eating habits are the key reasons why this village is so special and helps people live long lives.

Do you like eating out? Well, eating out in Guangzhou is fantastic. Guangzhou has a number of really good restaurants, such as The Magic Steak(牛排), Fish House and Funny Kitchen. Many people think the best one is The Magic Steak. It's the best because it has the thickest steaks, the freshest salads and the best French fries. You need to get there before 7 p.m. to get a table, because it gets crowded after that. Of course, you can book(预订) a table in advance. And you can do that online or by phone.

If you want something cheaper, you can go to Fish House. It's better than many other restaurants, and it's really great for people who like fish. It has the best service in Guangzhou. And it's easier to get a table there than at The Magic Steak. But The Magic Steak is more convenient(便利的), because it's closer to the center of the city than Fish House. In that case, if you plan to go shopping, eating in The Magic Steak is your best choice.

Funny Kitchen, a fast food restaurant, is popular with teenagers, but elder people might like other restaurants. In fact, the food there is the worst in Guangzhou.

The English Language Assistants program（英语语言助理课程）is very famous in the UK. Every year，it sends many language teachers to support the teaching of English in other places around the world. I took part in the program last year and spent six months in a small town called Privas（普里瓦）in France. 

The small town lies in the southeast of France. It is a beautiful place. And it's famous for its chestnuts（栗子）. Lots of chestnuts are produced there every year. There is even a festival about chestnuts. People from Privas have a strong sense of belonging. On weekends，young people who live a busy life in nearby cities often come back to Privas to get together with their family. 

The quiet environment and comfortable lifestyle（生活方式）made me fall in love with Privas. The school where I taught was a great place to learn about French culture. I learned some special French customs there. 

People greet each other by kissing on the cheek（脸颊）. The number of kisses depends on where you are in France. On my first night in Privas，I stayed with a host family. They told me that in most places in France，people give two. In the north of France，they give four kisses. And in Privas，the custom is to give three. This made me sometimes wonder which cheek to kiss first. Since I had long hair，when a person was kissing me，some of my hair would end up in his or her mouth. That was really funny and awkward（令人尴尬的）. But people there were pleased that I was getting used to the local culture. 

Six months of staying there made me feel like part of the town. It was an unforgettable experience and I can't wait to return there some day.
