I went to Grand Canyon (大峡谷) National Park in July 2012 for the firsttime and I knew I wanted to work there as a park ranger（管理员）. Park rangers protect the park's animals, plants, land, buildings, andpeople.

Now, as a park ranger forGrand Canyon National Park, I share the science, history and beauty of this parkwith thousands of visitors from around the world.

National parks are like outdoormuseums. Park rangers have all kinds of jobs, depending on where they work and whatthey studied during college. I teach school field trips（实地考察）, work at visitor centers and helppeople stay safe during their visit.

My favorite part of my jobis showing children their first look at the Grand Canyon during school field trips.Children are often amazed at the canyon's size and colors. Sometimes, they thinkit looks like a painting.

Being a park ranger requiresa lot of energy. I walk several miles and talk with hundreds of people each day.Park rangers must enjoy working with people and speaking in front of groups. Nearly5 million people visit Grand Canyon National Park every year.

Park rangers must also beprepared for any situation. Recently, I broke a traffic jam(堵塞). It was caused by a huge elk（麋鹿）standing in the road. Elks can become dangerous when they get scared,so I asked visitors to stop their cars and take pictures from far away. Believeit or not, I also help protect people from monkeys. It is not allowed to feed animalsin national parks. But sometimes, visitors try to feed monkeys.

My Plan for the Weekend

In a pond，there lived many fish. They never listened to anyone. {#blank#}1{#/blank#}

He told the fish， "It could bring danger to your life if you never listen to others. " {#blank#}2{#/blank#}" It is that old duck，talking to himself again. " they would say. 

One afternoon，the duck was resting near a stone beside the pond，when two fishermen stopped there to drink water. 

The fishermen saw that the pond had many fish. " Look!This lake is full of fish，" said one of them. {#blank#}3{#/blank#}. "

The duck heard all this. When the fishermen left，he quickly went into the pond and said to the fish，" You all have to leave this pond before morning. {#blank#}4{#/blank#}

But the fish just laughed and said. " There have been many fishermen trying to catch us. They never made it. {#blank#}5{#/blank#}

Don't worry about us，Mr. Duck. "

The next morning，the fishermen came to the pond. Very soon，they caught all the fish. The fish cried. "If only we had listened to Mr. Duck. Now we have to pay with our lives. "

On Monday afternoon, I was very tired after work and waited for my bus as usual at the bus station. Just then my attention was caught 1 a little girl.

She was sitting alone, as all the busy travelers rushed around her. She didn't move. Most travelers were in such a big hurry that they didn't 2 her at all. I was one of the travelers but I couldn't leave this little girl alone. I didn't see her parents 3 .

So I walked up to the girl. "Hello," I said. "Are you all right?"

The little girl didn't even look up at me. I slowly sat down next to her and 4 touched her shoulder. The moment she lifted her 5 , I noticed that she was crying. I felt terrible!

I held out my hand. The girl looked at me and seemed afraid, 6 she still took my hand and let me lead her to the bus station information desk. I 7 the situation to the security guard (保安). He then made an announcement (通知)，"Attention, please! A young girl is 8 her parents at the information desk. If you are looking for your 9 , please come right away!"

A couple of 10 later, a woman came toward the desk. As soon as she saw the little girl, she shouted and ran up to her. She 11 her in her arms tightly, saying "I am here, Andrea. Everything is okay. I love you, honey." 

Then she turned to 12 . "Thank you so much, sir," she said. "We got separated (分开) in the crowd earlier. My daughter is 13 , so I didn't make an announcement over the speakers for her. I was looking for her everywhere. I was so worried!"

I understood 14 the little girl did not look at me until I touched her shoulder. That day must have been very 15 for the little girl and her mother! I am a father. I know how important it's to love and help all children.

"It is especially beautiful. No matter who you are or what your age is, seeing something so fantastic is truly attractive, " said Jin Huilin, who was attracted by the rich patterns (花纹) when he saw Yuhua stones for the first time. 

Nanjing Yuhua stone is a type of water-worn stone mainly found in areas like Nanjing and Yizheng in Jiangsu Province. It is known for its smooth texture (质地), bright colours and rich patterns. 

Because Yuhua stones are often got from mines(矿山), dry Yuhua stones look plain and grey, hiding their true quality（质量）. Jin and his friends visited Luhe mining sites in Nanjing, wearing rubber shoes to collect these stones on rainy days. Rain made the stones' detailed patterns clearer. "It's better to carry a bottle of water on dry days to pour on the surface of the stones. Sometimes you can find something surprising, " Jin said. 

According to Jin, appreciating(欣赏) stones starts with their outer qualities like texture, colour, and patterns.     ①     However, "real appreciation of the stones requires cultural knowledge; otherwise, they might seem like just pieces of colour, " said Jin. With cultural knowledge and imagination, people could see different patterns, such as trees, mountains, or flowers. "     ②     The stones a person chooses as their favourites can show their cultural awareness（意识）, " Jin added. 

Watching patterns of stones in the water is not the only way to appreciate stones. Jin also mentioned other ways.     ③     He gave some examples. "Some people enjoy holding stones in their hands, appreciating their special textures, or using strong light to discover hidden patterns that are even more beautiful. Others choose to put the stones on the desk, inviting guests to appreciate the stones from different positions, " said Jin.     ④   

For Jin, stone watching brings joy and something fresh to his life. "Some people like to have lively pets while I prefer stones for their lasting nature, " Jin added. 

①In most places in the world today, it is easy to find healthy food. With supermarkets, buying healthy food like fresh fruits, vegetables, fish, and meat is easy and convenient（便利的）. However, it is also easy to find unhealthy food today. Supermarkets and other stores sell good food, but they also sell frozen foods and junk food like chips, candy, and cookies. A lot of food today has chemicals（化学药品）. Research has shown that many of these chemicals are bad for our health. So did people in the past eat healthier than we do today?

②A century ago, people didn't eat junk food or frozen food. Instead, they ate natural foods without chemicals. On the other hand, their natural foods were not always as good as food today. In the past, meat often came from sick animals. It's not healthy to eat meat from a sick animal. In most places today, laws make sure that food is safe.

③In most countries today, we can buy a variety（各种）of foods. We can buy oranges in the winter and apples in the summer. Healthy fruits and vegetables are available（可获得的）at any time of year. These foods come from all over the world. In the past, this kind of variety was not possible. People could eat certain foods only in certain seasons.

④We also eat much more meat, sugar, fattening foods, and chemicals today than people did a century ago. Studies show that these things can cause（引起）heart disease（疾病）and a variety of other health problems. However, people live much longer now. Today, the average（平均）person lives for 70 to 80 years. However,100 years ago, the average person lived for only about 50 years. People live longer because we have better medicine now. But people also have longer lives because healthy food is usually available.

⑤So ____? Yes and no. People in the past did eat more natural food than we do now. But, in some ways, we also eat better today. We can eat healthier today than people did in the past. We just have to choose to eat good foods.
