One day, my teacher said to one of my classmates, "Give me your phone."

We all looked at him, being 2 . Kyle, a good student who I never saw text(发信息) in class, gave the teacher his phone. Nobody expected him to do such a thing.

When the teacher left, two students who I often saw text in class started talking about how they sent text messages and never got caught 3 .

"Kyle, you can't text in class that way!" one of them said. "I put my phone in my desk so it looks like I'm always looking at my 4 carefully."

"Isn't it funny that we always text and never get caught, but the first time Kyle does it, he gets caught?" the other one 5 .

They must have thought they were 6 because they never got caught but Kyle did. But which situation is worse: getting caught, or not being 7 ? These two students didn't get caught, and they just kept texting in class, not 8 in class. So neither of them had good grades. I think they will 9 breaking the rules in the future. Kyle got caught, but at least he learned a lesson. He will learn more in class and stay out of 10 . Maybe he is smarter than the two students.

MiG Prize 2024

The Michel Gelrubin Architecture Prize is designed to bring out new talents by giving students an opportunity for international recognition. Open internationally, the Prize is awarded annually to honor students whose work demonstrates a combination of vision and talent in the art of architecture and planning.

This Year's Challenge

This year's competition invites proposals for projects that integrate at least 3 different uses into a building. The projects should include private and public spaces, and consider the urban context.

Participation

The competition is open to any student studying architecture during the academic year 2024—2025. Candidates can apply as individuals or as teams.

Materials

Electronic submission of the project files must include:

·Posters that integrate the documents explaining the project[plans, sections, elevations, photos, renderings（透视图）, illustrations, images, diagrams, and text]

·A presentation of the project(max 15 slides)

·A video file(max 3 min.) is optional but highly recommended.

·All the documents must be written in English and sent in a PDF format(except the videos).

Do you like writing by hand or with a keyboard?

A new brain research, led by researchers at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, shows that choosing handwriting over using a keyboard results in better learning and memory.

"When you write your shopping lists or notes by hand, you simply remember things better after some time."said Audrey van der Meer, author of the study.

The study was done using equipment(设备) to track(跟踪) and record brain wave activity. 12 young adults and 12 children took part in the study. Each person was asked to write by hand and type on a keyboard while wearing a special ca p with over 250 electrodes(电极). The sensors (传感器) in the electrodes picked up the electrical activity that took place in the brain. Each examination took 45 minutes per person.

The results show that the brain in both young adults and children is much more active when writing by hand than when typing on a keyboard. According to Van der Meer, plenty of senses become active by pressing a pen on paper, seeing the letters written and hearing the sound made while writing. These build connect ion between different parts of the brain, opening the brain up for learning.

Van der Meer believes that the results show the importance of children's learning to draw and write at an early age, especially at school."Learning to write by hand is a bit slower course, but it's important for children to experience the tiring step of learning to write by hand"she said,

The hand movements are good for us in many ways. "If you use a keyboard, you use the same movement for each letter. Writing by hand requires control of your fine motor(精细动作) skills and senses.It's important to put the brain in a learning state as often as possible."Van der Meer added."You might use a keyboard to write an article, but you should learn by hand during a class."
