Somebody Loves You

    One cold rainy night, I was working on my Legos in my bedroom. I was dreaming of the day when I have earned enough money to buy my favourite set. To help me, my father rewarded me one dollar a day after I jogged with him in the morning.

    Suddenly, the doorbell rang. I jumped from my chair and raced to the top of the steps, wondering who would visit us on such a rainy night. My mother opened the door. Surprisingly, she found a very untidy man. Overcome by pity, my mother invited him inside to the living room.

    I went downstairs quietly so I could get a better look. I couldn't hear clearly what they were saying, but I saw the man holding his head in his hands and crying, which made my chest ache.

    I raced back to my room, grabbed the one-dollar coin I had got that morning, ran back to the man, put the coin in his hand and gave him a hug. At that moment, I had no idea why I did so. Feeling embarrassed, I stood still.

In a while, the stranger sat quietly with his head bowed. Tears streamed down his face as he tightly held that coin. Finally, he said, ―I just thought nobody cared about me. For the last twenty years, I have been so alone… I have no family. That was the first hug I have gotten in — hmmm… I don't know how long. It's hard to believe that somebody cares.

    Being a kid, I hadn't thought about what I was doing that night. I just had the reaction to the sight of someone else's pain. On our earlier morning jogs, my dad and I had talked about the importance of giving, but I hadn't had any idea of what it really meant.

    Before the man left that night, my parents asked him why he had knocked on our door. He said that as he was walking along the streets, hopeless and ready to die, he had noticed a bumper sticker on the car in front of our house. The bumper (保险杠) sticker on the car read: SOMEBODY LOVES YOU.

    I have a nice family. My parents love me very much. I have no {#blank#}1{#/blank#}（兄弟）and no sisters. but I have some cousins. This is Kate. She is my {#blank#}2{#/blank#}（叔叔的）daughter. She is a nurse（护士）. She likes{#blank#}3{#/blank#}（蓝色）, and her room is always very {#blank#}4{#/blank#}（整洁的）. She has a cat Mimi. {#blank#}5{#/blank#}（是）she and her cat in the room now? No, they are in the kitchen. And this is John. He is my aunt's son. He likes {#blank#}6{#/blank#}（模型）planes very much. They are{#blank#}7{#/blank#}（到处）.Tom is my aunt's son, too. He is a middle school student. He often helps me with my study. I {#blank#}8{#/blank#}（感谢）him very much for his help. Where is{#blank#}9{#/blank#}（他们的）mother? Oh, she is playing computer games. Two {#blank#}10{#/blank#}（手表）are on the desk, too.

First Impression

The day that I met my best friend for the first time, I was full of anxiety. I was trying to do some revision for an important oral exam in the local library and people kept disturbing（打扰）me. I was getting more and more annoyed and the more upset I got, the less I was able to concentrate. I couldn't stand when I heard someone singing loudly behind me. I turned around and glared at the person who was singing. It was a tall girl about the same age as me and she was standing with a book in her hands. I picked up my books, looked at her and said angrily, "Thanks to your noise. I've been unable to study. You're so selfish!" Then I left the library in a hurry.

When I got home, I realized I'd left my textbook behind and there was nothing I could do as the library was closed. I was so upset that I almost cried. Just then, the phone rang. A girl named Jenny had noticed my book in the library and she got my phone number from the librarian. She said she didn't live far away and could bring it around for me.

I was so grateful and agreed to meet her at the store down the road. When I recognized Jenny was the girl I had shouted at for singing, I was filled with shame and apologized several times for my rude behavior.

Jenny was kind enough to pardon me. Ever since then we've been best friends and we got along very well. I often think how lucky I am! We two girls are much alike and I trust her more than anyone else.

From the experience I know that the first impression is untrue sometimes and we can't judge a person only by the first impression.

The oil- paper umbrella has a history of over 1, 000 years in China. There are different s{#blank#}1{#/blank#} about it. The most popular one is about Lu Ban. 

When Lu Ban and his younger sister visited the West Lake, it started raining suddenly. They agreed to have a competition. They should i{#blank#}2{#/blank#} something for people to go out on rainy days. 

Lu Ban spent the whole night building ten pavilions（凉亭）near the lake. The next morning, however, when Lu Ban was p{#blank#}3{#/blank#} of his achievements, his sister held something unusual in her hand. It could be opened into a round shape. It was light and beautiful, so people could carry it e{#blank#}4{#/blank#} wherever they went. 

Lu Ban said, "You've solved the problem wisely, so you w{#blank#}5{#/blank#} the competition. " Then the umbrella was made and it received a lot of praise from people. 

Later, people used much cheaper paper instead of silk, cutting the cost of umbrellas. People also brushed tung oil（桐油）across the surface to make them strong. 

Liu Wenwen started to learn suona at the age of three. Learning suona needed {#blank#}1{#/blank#} and hard work." In order not to influence (影响) neighbors, my parents took me to {#blank#}2{#/blank#} in a park around 4 am every day," said Liu. Her classmates always laughed at her. Because at that time, they {#blank#}3{#/blank#} suona as an art of the hillbilly(乡巴佬). Liu said she felt sad. But she didn't {#blank#}4{#/blank#} learning it. When she entered Shanghai Conservatory of Music, she{#blank#}5{#/blank#} with this instrument." The music played by Professor Liu, a top player, is amazing," she said.

 Hello! I'm Timo Halla! I'm 13 years old. Some of my classmates like sports and some are {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(interest) in music. And here is what I love--cooking.

I {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(real) love cooking and I can cook great food. I don't learn to   cook in class. I learn to cook from videos an TV. Here is my bread. It looks like  {#blank#}3{#/blank#} apple. There {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(be) milk and eggs in it. My parents often say my bread is very good and healthy.

 When I cook new food, I first ask my parents {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(eat) it. Then I take some of it to my grandmother. She {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(like) my food very much.

 There are cooking {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(lesson) in my school. Now I'm good  {#blank#}8{#/blank#} cooking all kinds of Chinese food. And my school knows I can  {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(cook) well, so the teacher is me and all the students likes me. I teach{#blank#}10{#/blank#}(they) to cook. They all think cooking is interesting and easy now.
