Oceanic islands, located far out in the ocean, are usually the tops of underwater volcano. These volcanic islands are formed when underwater volcanoes crupt(爆发). 

In August 1883, an ocean ic island called Krakatau in Indonesia was blasted apart by volcanic eruptions. It was one of the most violent cruptions in the world. The effects(影响) of this volcanic eruption was both immediate and long-term

In the "immediate" part, two-thirds of the island disappeared buncâth the sea. Pour huge eruptions created tsunamis (huge waves) that rose 120 feet high. More than 30, 000 people drowned in the tsunamis, which caused floods as far away as San Francisco and the English Channel. Tens of thousands of people on ncarby Indonesian islands were killed by walls of water, hot clouds of volcanic ash, gas, and rock.

In the longer term, climate patterns(气候模式) after Krakatoa's eruption influenced the whole world. The huge amounts of as h and gas entered into the sky and caused clouds to throw back more light than normal, cooling the Eorth. The following year, average(平均的) temperatures dropped by as much as 2. 2 degrees Fahrenheit. A few degrees F dropping n. ay not sound like much, but it is a big deal to plants and animals. 

In general, volcanoes cause lots of changes to the world's geography and climate. Although scientists are becoming better at finding when and where volcanoes will erupt, we must still respect the nature's power.

My name is Leo. These days, I have online(线上的) classes. I have a lot to share about them.

When I take lessons at school, I usually spend much time on the way to school and go back home. But when I take lessons at home, I can sleep more in the morning and it makes me feel full of energy. 

Even though I have classes online, I listen to the classes and take notes carefully. Sometimes, teachers give students several questions in the teaching videos(教学视频) and I always get myself ready for solving these problems. When I can't understand the teachers in class or don't have lessons on time, I can watch the videos again. 

However, it's not always good for me. I sometimes feel upset about online classes. The Internet is slow when too many students use the Internet at the same time. In online classes, I only see my teachers on the computer. And talking to my teachers is like talking to the computer. Also, I can't talk with my classmates at any time. 

At school, I talk with my classmates during the breaks between classes. We often tell each other about our daily lives. But now we stay at our homes and do other activities. Even I try to talk to my classmates online, they may stay in bed or listen to music. 

I think online classes are helpful but I still look forward to having lessons at school and meeting my teachers and friends face to face.

English is becoming more and more popular in China. It can be used in every field, such as on some signs and restaurant menus. But there are some problems when people use it. Perhaps you' ve seen the English letters "WC" in your city. They show public toilets. But do you know it is far from native(地道的) English? In fact, foreigners from English-speaking countries seldom use the letters. Workers in our city are changing "WC" signs all over the city. The government is spending much money changing all the bad English on signs and restaurant menus. Many other places in China are following the steps. 

"WC, or water closet, is old-fashioned English. It sounds dirty to me, " says Nancy, a young woman from the US. The old sign will become "Gents/Men" and "Ladies/Women". "I see much poor English in everyday life, and not only on signs, " she says. "I know what they mean, but they are Chinglish, not real English. For example, when someone says to me ‘My home town is Zhejiang Province', I know he or she should say ‘My home town is in Zhejiang Province'. Home town is a smaller place in a province. " The common mistakes that Nancy picked up include "Not Entry", which should be" No Entry"; "Direction of Airport" should be changed to "To the Airport". And it is "Room Rate", not "Room Price". And remember to "Keep off the Grass" rather than "Care of the Green. " The next time you walk on the street or eat in the restaurant, you can go and see if the expressions are right. 

This weekend is my 9th birthday. My mom books me a pony-riding (骑小马) party. The party lasts for 2 hours. It is from 8:30 am to 10:30 am, but Mom and I will get there half an hour earlier to set the table. We little kids can take turns to ride the ponies, but only ten kids can ride the ponies. I have so many friends that I have to think hard about whom to invite to the party. At the party, each of us can have a ten-minute ride. After each ride, there's a two-minute break. There are three ponies at the party, Dash, Poppy and Dotti, but only Dash and Poppy are for riding. We can brush Dotti's long white hair and give him some carrots, but we can't ride him. He's getting very old and can't carry us any more.

Mom gets lots of food, fruit and drinks for us. On the day of the party, the kids waiting for their tums can have something to eat and drink. There's a garden in the paddock (马场). Mom says the horse owner (主人) hides some small toys in different places in the garden. We can go to look for them. If we find them, we can take them home. How exciting! I can't wait to have the birthday party!
