Lin Tao is twenty-six years old. He used to work in a big company. He didn't show an {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(兴趣) in that job, so he gave it up two years ago and began to do what he had always wanted to do: writing {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(长篇小说) on the Internet. He liked to write {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(文章)when he was very young, and it has always been his dream to become a writer. It {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(看来;似乎) really hard to become a writer in the past. Now things are much {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (更容易的). You just need to put what you write on the Internet. If they are interesting enough, you will be {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(确定的;无疑的) to be successful.

The World Through My Eyes

Once upon a time, in a deep forest lived a hard-working and kind-hearted squirrel named Sammy. Sammy was known for his kind and helpful nature. He was always ready to give a hand to anyone in need.

One sunny morning, Sammy was busy collecting nuts for the winter. Suddenly, he heard a strange noise coming from a nearby bush. Hoping to find out what was happening, he got near the bush and looked inside. There, he found a little bird with a broken wing, struggling to fly.

Sammy felt sorry for the bird and quickly chose to help. He carefully carried the bird back to his comfortable tree hole and tried to cure its wing with leaves and soft grass. Day after day, Sammy gave the bird food and cared for it until its wing got better. As the weeks passed, the bird's wing grew stronger, and it was finally able to fly again. The bird thanked Sammy cheerfully and promised to help him in return whenever he needed it.

Not long after, a terrible storm attacked the forest, and Sammy's tree hole was blocked by fallen branches. Sammy was caught and he didn't know what to do. Just then, the bird flew by and saw Sammy's predicament. It quickly flew to the nearby animals and asked for help.

It took the animals quite a long time to, together, clear the branches and free Sammy from the hole. Sammy felt so thankful and found that his kindness had come back to him in the most surprising way.

From that day on, Sammy has continued to help others, and the forest animals have learned the value of kindness and helping each other. They live happily, knowing that together, they can overcome any challenge.

Here is a story: A man sees a butterfly (蝴蝶). The butterfly tries to get out of its chrysalis (蛹). Feeling sorry for it, the man decides to help. He cuts the chrysalis and the butterfly comes out easily. Surprisingly enough, the butterfly is unable to fly. If the butterfly doesn't struggle (挣扎，奋斗) to leave the chrysalis, it can't fly! The struggle develops the energy in the butterfly which makes it fly. Similarly, the challenges (挑战) of life bring out the best in young people and make them fly.

When people are young, meeting and overcoming (克服) challenges will make them strong and ready to face life. When we look at successful people, we see that the most successful of them are people who have had to struggle. One famous businessman, who now owns many supermarkets, used to carry clothes on his back and sell them from door to door when he was young. Another successful man is Dennis. His father died when he was only twenty. His father's death forced him to mature fast. He had to bring up a family of nine people. He took up the challenges and overcame them. Today his brothers and sisters are leading successful lives.

Sometimes challenges do not appear to us because we keep away from them. So some parents and teachers actively encourage young people to face challenges. They might organize some activities for young people which provide them with challenges, like rock-climbing, camping, volunteer work and so on. However, just passing exams will not prepare a person for life. We must meet and overcome challenges. The young people of today will become the leaders of tomorrow. For countries to continue to become successful, it is important that the young people learn to meet challenges and overcome them.

Chen Beier, a TV host, was going to make a programme about Atule'er, the small village in Sichuan that sits on a cliff(悬崖). People could only get to the top by climbing a 2, 556-step metal ladder(金属爬梯). 

China has reached an important goal(目标). It eradicated extreme poverty(消除绝对贫困). And life has greatly changed in Atule'er too. Years ago, there was no schools for kids to get an education. Many people died because of poor medical condition. There are no more sad facts like these in Atule'er now. Government built schools and hospitals. People can go to school and see a doctor as easily as those in town. 

Now Chen was on her way to Atule'er but it wasn't easy to complete the trip. When Chen was halfway up the ladder, she felt so tired that she could hardly go any further. But the woman set her teeth and continued her climb. Thanks to Chen, people can easily see how life in China's countryside has improved. 

China has changed a lot. Many people outside China, however, couldn't believe it. Now, Chen has shown us what can be done about that: Don't just tell them, show them. 

The world's top three food plants are rice, wheat and corn. People around the world eat them {#blank#}1{#/blank#} different ways. In East Asia, people have rice {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(noodle). And bread is the main food in Europe. So I think the plants as main food play {#blank#}3{#/blank#} important role in our lives. 

Besides working as main food, plants can also influence the climate. Take the Great Bear Rainforest in Canada for example. It's sunny now, {#blank#}4{#/blank#} please take a raincoat if you want to visit there. It may rain later because the trees in the rainfo rest can make {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(they) own rain. Those trees can live for {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(thousand) of years. Most {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(important), they can form the clouds at the top of the trees. Water {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(come) into the air from the leaves and forms rain.
