A man was walking through a forest. There {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (be) a few caps in his hands. There were lots of monkeys in {#blank#}2{#/blank#} forest. It was very hot{#blank#}3{#/blank#} he was very tired. So he{#blank#}4{#/blank#} (decide) to have a rest under a tree. Soon he was{#blank#}5{#/blank#} (sleep) with a cap on his head. When he woke up, he couldn't find his caps. He looked for them everywhere. {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (final) he found some monkeys in the tree, and each had a cap on its head. He    {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (point) to the monkeys and shouted to {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (they). He wanted to get his caps back. But the    {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (monkey) didn't understand him. Then he had an idea. He took off his own cap and threw it on the ground. The monkeys did the same thing. The man picked{#blank#}10{#/blank#} all the caps and went away.

Smart, Social Animals

Recently, researchers have found that dolphins know their own names much like people. Dolphins talk to one another with whistles (口哨) and calls. Scientists have known that the animals also use unusual whistles to name each other. They had thought that dolphins only heard each other's voices. However, the scientists didn't know that dolphins listen for their names too. 

To test this idea, the researchers caught 14 dolphins and recorded their name calls. The scientists then copied each dolphin's voice. When the changed recordings were played, the dolphins replied strongly to the names of their relatives and close group members. They paid no attention to the names of dolphins they did not know. 

Dolphins live in large groups that grow and change. Each dolphin's unusual whistle helps it quickly find a friend or a family member, or call for help. Understanding their calls requires learning. It's a skill that's seen in very few animals, which include humans, elephants and bats. 

Elephants, for example, communicate with sounds. Their sounds can be heard by other elephants miles away. Dolphins, too, communicate with each other by making sounds like this. 

Elephants also communicate by moving their head, feet and trunk. In much the same way, dolphins communicate through their movements. They often touch each other to express friendship. 

Unlike dolphins, elephants also communicate through their great sense of smell. They can recognize other elephants through the smells they have. 

Why do dolphins and elephants share the gift of communication? Scientists think it may be because they are social and smart animals. Both have strong family relationship. Now, whether they also have nicknames is another question! 

Henry is a tall and strong man. But he used to be very thin when he was in middle school. Because of this, he 1 by some schoolboys. They made fun of him. His parents were worried 2 him. So he decided to do something 3 this situation in college.

Henry's change encouraged him a lot. He created a program teaching middle school students how to get stronger. He also joined talk shows and wrote books about his experience.

On a winter morning, a little boy of 10 years old or so went to a phone supermarket to make a telephone call. Clearly, he changed his tone (腔调) of voice while speaking over the phone. When all this was happening, the phone supermarket owner watched and listened with great interest to the conversation that followed:

"Madam, I am a poor boy. Can you give me a job cutting grass on your lawn (草坪)?" the little boy asked.

"Sorry, I already have someone to cut my lawn," the woman at the other end of the phone line answered.

"Madam, I will cut your lawn for half the price of the person who cuts your lawn now."

"The person who is now cutting my lawn satisfies me a lot. He is doing a good job."

"Madam, I'll even sweep your curb (清扫路边), so on Sunday you will have the prettiest lawn in all of Palm beach, Florida."

"No, thank you."

Instead of getting angry, the little boy smiled and put back the receiver (话筒) gently. The supermarket owner, who was listening to the conversation, walked over to the boy and said, "Soon, I like your manner and I would like to offer you a job."

"No, thanks. But I will remember your offer."

"But you were asking for a job so sincerely and seriously when you were talking to the lady over the phone."

"No sir, I was just checking how well or badly I've done the job I already have. I am the one who is working for that lady I was talking to!" the little boy said.

O.J.Mayo is a {#blank#}1{#/blank#} in the NBA. He was born {#blank#}2{#/blank#} November 5, 1897. He started playing basketball when he was 8 years old. Mayo {#blank#}3{#/blank#} a basketball star in his school. His teachers thought he was an all-round (全面的) player when he was in Grade One. In his first year on the high school basketball {#blank#}4{#/blank#} , he could play better than many older and bigger players.

A foreign musician came to China by chance and settled down for 19 years. His song about China was praised by a Chinese person as"I can't imagine {#blank#}1{#/blank#} more beautiful song about China." It sounds improbable, but this is {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(exact) what happened to Mark Levine, a 75-year-old from the US.

 Levine first came to China in 2005 and worked {#blank#}3{#/blank#} an English teacher in Huai' an. He moved to Beijing to teach at Minzu University three years later. {#blank#}4{#/blank#} China has thousands of foreign English teachers, Levine stands out from the rest. He received China's Friendship Award, the nation's {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(high) honor for a foreigner. The award{#blank#}6{#/blank#}(give) to 100 foreign experts each year.

 He wrote down his experiences and published {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(they) in a book called Stories from My Chinese Journey. He also wrote songs about China and received {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(invite) to perform in many activities. "When I am singing Chinese songs to Western audience, my wish is{#blank#}9{#/blank#}(introduce) China to Westerners." Levine said, He {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(write) over 80 songs since he moved to Beijing in 2007.
