A study has been done at a university. Scientists divided a class into two groups. They made each group take notes in different {#blank#}1{#/blank#}. The first group took notes by hand. The second one did it on the computer. The purpose(目的) of the study was {#blank#}2{#/blank#} out which way would help the students learn better. The scientists thought Group Two would win. But to their surprise, Group One did a better job. Since you take notes by hand, stick to it!

Firstly, try to get yourself ready {#blank#}4{#/blank#} class begins. Be familiar(熟悉的) with the knowledge that you are going to learn. Make sure you have your notebooks and pens on the desk.

Table manners

All societies have customs about how to eat politely. In English, we call these customs "table manners". Based on culture and location, table manners can be quite different from place to place. It's very interesting! {#blank#}1{#/blank#}

●In some cultures, it's polite to serve food to guests, while in other cultures, people don't do this because it makes the guests feel like they are being forced to eat.

●In most East Asian countries, people use chopsticks at the table. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} Do you know that in some places people simply use their hands to eat? And in some places, only their right hand?

●In Russia, it's polite to leave a bit of food on your plate to show the host that there was plenty to eat. {#blank#}3{#/blank#} It means you enjoyed the food.

{#blank#}4{#/blank#} So when you visit another place or another country, take the time to learn the local customs and manners. Remember, "When in Rome, do as the Romans do."

We have a new classroom. Here is a picture of it. It's a big and nice classroom. You can see a teacher's desk, twenty-five desks and twenty-six chairs in it. Each of the students has a new desk and a new chair. There is one more chair for the teacher. There are some new books on the teacher's desk. The books are for students. There is a tape player on the teacher's desk, too. The flowers near the windows are very beautiful.

Oh. look! This is Li Lei's desk. It's in Row (排) One. A pencil box is on his desk. Two pens and a ruler are in the pencil box. There is a new schoolbag on his chair. There are some books and keys in it. Where is his dictionary? It is in his desk. His mother buys it for him. What's under his chair? Oh. it's a new basketball.

Friends are very important in everyone's life because friends are always there when we need them. A true friend reaches for your hand and touches your heart.

My friendship with Sue started 30 years ago with a snake. A few months after I moved into an apartment (公寓), one day, my next-door neighbor, shouted to me for help because a snake was sleeping near her door. I made the snake run away and made a new friend. Soon Sue invited me over for dinner or left home-made food at my door. When I went to my beach house, Sue helped look after my pet and water my plants. And when she wasn't home, I did the same for her. When she traveled, she'd remember to bring me wonderful gifts, but her smile is always the greatest gift of all.

In 1997, I had a lovely child and Sue looked after me and him. Years later, I returned her kindness. I helped out when her husband was in hospital, staying with her and talking about and sharing everything with her.

Unluckily, in 2019 the pandemic (疫情) happened. My husband lost his work and my son couldn't be back home because of the virus (病毒). I was worried about them and I didn't know how to fight the pandemic. But Sue appeared to help us in time. She shared food and medicine with us. Without her, I couldn't go through difficult times. I was the luckiest one in the world.

A wall might separate (阻隔) our apartments and masks (口罩) can separate the viruses, but nothing is able to separate true friends' hearts.
