Sally is an American girl. She studies in a{#blank#}1{#/blank#}in Beijing. She enjoys staying here and she likes Chinese food best. 

In fact, most Chinese food in America can be traced back to（追溯到）Guangdong. In the early 20th century, {#blank#}2{#/blank#}of Chinese came to America from Guangdong to look for jobs. They {#blank#}3{#/blank#}in some places like San Francisco. Of course, they brought {#blank#}4{#/blank#}dishes. But later they changed their dishes a lot to meet American tastes. 

When Sally goes home for holidays, her friends often ask her about Chinese food. She always tells them about mutton and carrot dumplings {#blank#}5{#/blank#}they are Sally's favorite food. She learned {#blank#}6{#/blank#} a Chinese friend. Now she would like to {#blank#}7{#/blank#}it with her American friends. First, cut up{#blank#}8{#/blank#}and carrots, and put them in a bowl. Then, add a little oil and salt to them and {#blank#}9{#/blank#} them. When the filling（馅料）is{#blank#}10{#/blank#}, put one spoon of the filling on a dumpling wrapper（饺子皮）and fold it over. Finally, boil（煮）them in a pot for a few minutes. Now you can enjoy some delicious dumplings! 

We live in the age of the computer. Scientists, teachers, writers and even students use{#blank#}1{#/blank#} to do all kinds of work. {#blank#}2{#/blank#}, more than thirty years ago, computers couldn't do much work. They were big and expensive. Only a few people were {#blank#}3{#/blank#} in them and knew how to use them. Today computers are smaller and {#blank#}4{#/blank#}. They can do a lot of work for people.

Computers play {#blank#}5{#/blank#} important role in our everyday life. They can work faster than people. Besides, they {#blank#}6{#/blank#} fewer mistakes. Computers can help people {#blank#}7{#/blank#} different work. {#blank#}8{#/blank#} use them to write articles. Teachers use {#blank#}9{#/blank#} to give lessons. Students use them to study Nowadays computers are necessary in our daily life. They make our life easier and more interesting. What do you think our lives will {#blank#}10{#/blank#} like without computers?

What do you think of the Chinese language?

Once, I was really shy. When I was 12, my teacher told us to record (录音) ourselves 1 our families. When I listened back, I heard my voice was just like a little kid's. That made me very shy and I 2 took part in activities from then on. 

Years later, I became a teacher. On the first day, my hands could not help but sweat (出汗). My arms was trying to stop me from 3 the door. Although I was a little nervous (紧张的), I opened the 4 slowly. Suddenly, all the students laughed. Then I felt it was a bad 5 to be a teacher. They did not seem to mind me at all. 6 class, a little girl walked up to me and asked, "Could you help me read this? I like your voice!" she said. I didn't feel shy any more and my body felt as 7 as a bird. Perhaps this was not such a bad idea after all. 

Besides, there was one more thing that surprised me. I 8 why the classroom was so clean every day—before leaving, the students would clean the classroom. Actually 9 did really well. Looking back at it now, I would say these students gave me 10 experience of my life. 

In the future, I want to create a space for shy people like me to shine.

Have you ever wondered how many ants there are on the earth? Scientists at the University of Hong Kong certainly have. In a new study, they estimated (估计) the number of the world's ants is about 20, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000(20 with 15 zeroes!

That means for every human, there are nearly 2. 5 million ants. If you put all the ants on a scale, they'd weigh more than all the wild birds and mammals (哺乳动物) on the earth. 

How did they count such a big number? In the past, many scientists have counted ants in different areas. They collected fallen leaves and earth and dried them to force the ants to come out for counting. Based on 465 studies that cover the whole land, the new study made the estimation. According to Wang Runxi, one of the authors, the number and distribution(分布) of ants can be valuable to show the environmental changes. 

"Ants play an important role in the ecosystem, " Wang told Science and Technology Daily. "They help loosen the soil, spread seeds, break down things and form a part of the food chain (食物链). They are everywhere on the earth except for the coldest places. "

"Compared with big animals, little ants are more sensitive (敏 感 的 ) to environmental changes, " Wang added. Most ants live in tropical (热带的) and subtropical(亚热带的) areas. But in recent years, ants have been moving toward the two poles because of global warming. Changes in forests, such as too many trees being cut down, also have influence on the number of ants, the study showed. 

"Our global map of ants allows us to better understand and predict ants' responses to worrying environmental changes, " scientists wrote in the study.
