"Sunrise gold" is a color that means a lot to me. The color mixes gold with a bit of red and yellow. I like it because it gives me peace, energy and hope in the face of difficulty.

When I was in the eighth grade, I took part in a speech competition. Although I made all my efforts, I didn't win. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} I had trouble falling asleep that night. It was 3:30 in the morning, and there was nothing but me and my unhappy heart. I got up and went upstairs to the roof (屋顶) top to clear my mind.

{#blank#}2{#/blank#} At first, it was orange and red, but after a short while, the sun awoke from its sleep and painted the sky with its gold colour. The sunlight shone on everything—trees, roofs and streets. {#blank#}3{#/blank#} The rays of light woke up the gentle morning wind and sent it moving across the field, touching my face and everything gently. It also woke up the early birds, which were singing happily.

There and then I realized that past is history, no matter how much we regret it. I thought to myself, "Maybe I can start once more, just like the dawn(黎明)." {#blank#}4{#/blank#}

Now, whenever I face difficulties, I remember what the "sunrise gold" made me understand that morning.

A. So I never doubted I could deal with it.

B. I tried to remember all of what I heard.

C. The failure hit me hard and made me feel painful.

D. I went downstairs, feeling energetic and hopeful.

E. I stayed there until a ray of light appeared in the sky.

F. I felt its warmth flow through my body and into my heart.

Did you know that humans aren't the only species (物种) that use language? Bees communicate by dancing. Whales talk to each other by singing. And some apes talk to humans by using American Sign Language. 

A female gorilla(大猩猩), Koko, was born at the San Francisco Zoo on July 4th, 1971. Koko learned sign language from her trainer, Dr. Penny Patterson. Patterson began teaching sign language to Koko in 1972, when Koko was one year old. Koko must have been a good student, because two years later she moved onto the Stanford University campus with Dr. Patterson. Koko continued to learn on the campus until 1976. That's when she began living full﹣time with Patterson's group, the Gorilla Foundation. Patterson and Koko's relationship has been very close ever since. 

Dr. Patterson says that Koko has mastered sign language and known over 1,000 words, and that Koko makes up new words. For example, Koko didn't know the sign for ring, so she signed the words finger and bracelet(手镯). Dr. Patterson thinks that this shows meaningful and constructive use of language. 

Not everyone agrees with Dr. Patterson. Some argue that apes(类人猿) like Koko do not understand the meaning of what they are doing. Some people who don't believe that say that these apes are just performing complex tricks (戏法). For example, if Koko points to an apple and signs red or apple, Dr. Patterson will give her an apple. They argue that Koko does not really know what the sign apple means. She only knows that that if she makes the right movement, one which Dr. Patterson has shown her, then she gets an apple. The argument is not solved, but one thing is for certain: Koko is an extraordinary ape. 

It seems like Patterson and Koko have a good relationship, but not everyone agrees with it. Some people believe that Patterson is humanizing the ape. They think that apes should be left in the most natural state possible. Even Dr. Patterson struggles with these feelings. When she was asked if her findings could be duplicated by another group of scientists, she said, "We don't think that it would be ethical (道德的) to do again. " She went on to argue that animals should not be kept in such unnatural environment. 

As for the future, Dr. Patterson and the Gorilla Foundation would love to get Koko to an ape preserve (保护区) in Maui, but they are having trouble getting the land. So unless you have a few million dollars to give, Koko's going to be spending her time in Woodland, California with Dr. Patterson. Koko probably doesn't mind that. If she moved to Hawaii, she'd have to give up her Facebook page and Twitter feed, and she's got like 50 thousand "likes". Some may deny (否认) that she knows sign language, but nobody says that she doesn't know social networking.

Resting my head on Helen's shoulder,I put my arms round her waist.She drew me to her,and we rested in silence.

We had not sat long before another person came in.

We followed Miss Temple to her apartment.It had a good fire,and looked cheerful.Miss Temple told Helen Burns to be seated in a low arm-chair on one side of the fireplace,and herself asking another,she called me to her side.

"Is it all over?"she asked,looking down at my face."Have you cried your sadness away?"

"I am afraid I never shall do that."

"Why?"

"Because I have been wrongly accused(指责),and you and everybody else,will now think me a bad girl."

"We shall think you what you prove yourself to be,my child.Continuo lo act as a good girl,and you will satisfy us."

"Shall I,Miss Temple?"

"You will."said MissTemple,"You have been accused of lying when you were little.Tell us the truth,but add nothing and exaggerate(奇大)nothing. "

I made up my mind that I would be most modest and most correct.Having thought for a few minutes about where to start,I told her all the story of my sad childhood.

There is a park near my home. But I don't go there very often. One afternoon, I went into the 1  and found it was very small. In the park there were two 2 ways. One was wide and clean, there were lots of beautiful3 on both sides, but the other was narrow and dirty, wild grass grew everywhere. I stood there for a while, at last I decided to follow the dirty way.

Ah! There was a small4 there. It was the most beautiful garden I had ever seen. There were trees and flowers. Some clean and comfortable chairs were under the trees. I thought it was the 5 place of the park.

Many people6 me that there was nothing to see in the park. Now I would love to tell them if they follow the right way, they can feel the 7 . But each time I tell them, they just smile at me without 8 . I know they don't believe me. My trip to the park that day made me understand 9 about life. In our life, we always have to make a decision. Don't be 10 to choose a different way. Be brave. You may get a big surprise!

My dream job is to become a professional (职业的) baseball player. I'm on the school baseball team now, but I'm not one of 1 players in the team. However, playing baseball is something I like to do. Every day, I play baseball 2 my teammates after school. I also join a baseball club. In 3 club, I can learn a lot about baseball.

These days many people want to be baseball players. Some want to be a baseball player because of money, but some want to do that because they really love baseball. Alex Rodriguez is a great baseball player. He plays baseball 4 . Many people around the world like 5 . For me, I would like to be a baseball player like Alex Rodriguez, not because of money, but because I really enjoy every minute while I 6 the sport.
