Mr. Jenkins liked all kinds of delicious food. As an important manager, he was often asked to dinner. The shopkeepers tried their best to fawn on（巴结）him. They knew it was good for their business. The manager got fatter and fatter. He could hardly go upstairs at home and had to sleep downstairs. He often felt tired if he walked or did some housework. He was worried about it and had to go to see a doctor. 

"Stop eating much fat （脂肪） and sugar, Mr. Jenkins, "or it will be worse for your health!" It was difficult for the manager to do it. He wouldn't do as the doctor said. Of course, he found something was wrong with his heart a few months later. Now he thought the doctor was right. And he had to be in hospital. 

"You must lose weight, Sir, " said the doctor

"Could you tell me a way to lose weight, please? "

"You must do exercise first. "

"Which exercise? "

"To move your head from side to side when you're invited to dinner!

It was the last day of the school year. The classroom was filled with excitement. When our teacher, Mr. Johnson, walked in, holding a CD player, everyone's face lit up with a smile. We knew that this wasn't going to be another normal day, but a special one.

"Please calm down and sit," said Mr. Johnson, "I'm glad everyone's here for the final reading test of the year." When everyone cried, Mr. Johnson laughed, saying it was just a joke. Then he reminded us that we still had a job to do. "You need to clean out your desks and put all your things into your backpacks," he added gently.

As we began our task, Mr. Johnson turned on the CD player. The lively music made the room feel like a party. Some of us started singing along with the music, and others were dancing around their desks while they were cleaning them out. Even Mr. Johnson showed us a few dance steps, making everyone laugh heartily. After we finished cleaning, someone asked, "When is break time?" Mr. Johnson took out some balls and started playing with them. Suddenly, he let the balls drop and said, "Break time starts... now!"

Just as we were about to rush out, our headmaster, Mrs. Miller, appeared at the door. "Mr. Johnson!" She cried out. A moment of silence fell over the room as we thought, "Mr. Johnson might be in trouble." However, to our surprise, Mrs. Miller couldn't help but laugh at the sight and left us to enjoy our break.

During break time, Mr. Johnson surprised us with another treat. He went to the cafe and came back with ice creams for everyone. We all cheered for him!

As we walked back to the classroom, we passed Mrs. Miller's office. Someone joked, "Don't play with the ice creams, Mr. Johnson!" We all laughed together.

How did you spend your summer holiday last month? I'd like to tell you 1 happened to me during my holiday. 

My 2 planned a relaxing and happy trip. We didn't need to keep up with our work and studies. On the first day, 3 we started out for Shanghai, we saw on TV that the traffic was heavy. So my parents 4 not to drive our car but to take the bullet train(高速火车) to Shanghai. It was the first time that I had ridden on the bullet train, so I was really 5 .

On the way, an American girl sat next to me and I talked to her. She told me that she came here for a short stay—her father came to China on business. In one year he would 6 to his company in the US. "How are you getting along here?" I asked. "Pretty good. I 7 the life here. China is a beautiful and great country. Besides, Chinese people are pretty 8 , "she said. Hearing that, I felt proud that I'm Chinese! With new friends around, the girl still missed her friends in the US very much. "It doesn't matter. I could always connect with them by writing letters and emails or making phone calls, " she said with a sweet9 . It was so great for her to be able to go through life in10 countries and cultures. I hope I can experience different cultures in other countries some day.

Nick is my pen pal. He is 12 years old. He is from Canada. He lives in Ottawa. He speaks English and French. His favourite subject is Science. He likes Chinese, too. And he says he can speak a little Chinese, but he can't write in Chinese. He doesn't like Physics. He thinks it's too difficult.

Nick likes sports, too. He likes swimming best. He goes swimming at weekends with his father. He says he can swim very well.

Nick has a big family. There are his grandparents, his parents and his brothers and sisters. He has two brothers and two sisters. They are Bob, Tim, Jane and Susan. They are happy!

This morning I went out to have breakfast in a small restaurant with a friend. It was sunny and the wind was gentle. Everything was lovely. But what wasn't lovely was the lady who took our order. She spoke to my friend in a way that was unhappy, certainly not friendly, and sort of rude. Working in hotel myself, I noticed it.

When it came to my turn to get close and order my food, I thought to myself, "What can I do here to make her day nice, to touch her to make her smile?". I was watching her and considering what to do.

Surely there must be something I could do. Then there it was and I knew，it was her voice. She had the most unbelievably well-spoken and clear voice. It was so good. It's so clear, well-spoken and sounds so professional. That was it.

So after she took my order and gave the same unfriendly attitude. I told her , "I hope you don't mind me saying, but____. " I told her how she honestly had one of those voices that would be perfect for announcements or even radio.

Her whole face lit up. She smiled (the first time I had seen her do so) and as I left and walked away, I noticed her whole attitude change. The customer behind me received a totally different kind of service. A happier one. All because of the simple thing I did. Surprisingly, she sent me a note to show her thanks when we pay the bill, which also makes my lovely day.

There was a time when this sort of thing would have embarrassed（使尴尬） me. Or I'd have been too shy to say such a thing. Not now. Now I must! Why? Because there is great power in words and I have the power. The power to completely change someone's day by something as simple as a few kind words and being kind. And you have this power too. We all do.
