You can learn a lot in a club. After you join a club, you can know how to play basketball, how to cook or how to speak English. These new things make you better. Also, good chances like a basketball match, a music festival or an English show, are easy to get when you are in a club. 

In a club, you can meet new people and make friends with them. Then, you can play games and have a great time with them. They can be your teachers too, and you can get new things from them. 

At last, joining a club makes you busy. You always have things to do, so your life will be quite interesting.

Why do you open a school? If you ask Nadia Lopez this question, she would simply answer: to close a prison. Lopez is the founder of Mott Hall Bridges Academy, a public school in Brooklyn.{#blank#}1{#/blank#}

To set up the school, Lopez faced many challenges. The greatest challenge was to get in touch with children without hope. At first, Lopez only had 45 kids. She once asked some girls,"{#blank#}2{#/blank#}" The answer was,"I don't know if I'm going to live that long." or"I have a lifelong goal of working in a fast- food restaurant nearby." These students had no idea that there were great chances outside their neighborhood.

{#blank#}3{#/blank#} And they have tried their best to keep their students active and hopeful." We call our students‘ scholars (学者)' because they are lifelong learners. I chose the colors purple and black to remind students that they are excellent. {#blank#}4{#/blank#} They can be future engineers, scientists and even leaders who can and will take over this world," Lopez said.

A popular New York blogger heard about the school and wrote a post about it, telling people how the children struggled (挣扎), and why people must make education the most important thing. {#blank#}5{#/blank#} About 1.4 million dollars were raised for the school and its students got to take field trips to colleges and universities.

" Up to now, we have had three graduating classes (毕业班). They have nearly 200 children," said Lopez.

Could you spend 24 bours without the Internet? I'm not sure how I'd deal with it. These days we all depend heavily on technology, you may or may not be surprised by the results of some recent research about the effects of online and digital （数字的） technology on people's lives. More than half of the people who were questioned said they'd feel "upset" without an Internet connection even for a brief period of time, which is, about 15-30 minutes when they were away from the Internet. 

The scientists also challenged people to spend one whole day without using technology and then report back on what it was like. Some people were surprised that they could not even turn their phones to silent. Nearly fifty percent of them said they felt lonely when they weren't using social media. According to the research, it is harder for the younger people to give up technology. They said that the modern technology has already become a part of their lives. However, there are about 25% of people actually said they felt freer without an Internet connection. It meant they found time to do something they wouldn't usually do such as reading a novel. Some of them said they enjoyed spending more time talking to family and friends face to face. 

So, what about you? As a middle school student, could you take the Internet challenge and spend 24 hours without going online? Or would it be a bad dream for you? Here we have different opinions from Chinese students aged from 12-16, maybe they'll be able to help you with your Internet use. 

Most parents don't know what their teenage children are talking about when they are having a chat with their friends. This is also true when teenagers are using the language of texting to send messages. Words like 18r are easy to understand, but what about "POS"? I asked some parents what it means and only 28% got it right! It means that a parent is near and that they are watching what their child is doing.

Parents worry a lot and like to know what is happening in their children's lives at all times.This means they try to control as much of their children's lives as possible. However, they have no control over the language that their children use, so it is a useful way for children to keep parts of their life secret.

Parents also complain that they never have serious conversations with their teenage children. Teenagers are always busy phoning or texting their friends--even when parents are trying to talk to them. And there are times when teenagers aren't busy, but they just don't feel like having a serious chat with mum or dad!

One way to start real conversations is to make sure that the whole family eats together at mealtimes and that everyone has a chance to talk. Teenagers are trying tot find out who they are. They aren't adults yet, but they are learning how to act like big people.

This means that it is a good idea to speak to teenagers like they are adults and it helps to listen to their ideas and opinions carefully. When parents talk to their teenagers, some good advice is " Don't sound like your own parents!" In addition, parents who try to use the language of teenagers often sound very silly. And that's because most times when an adult tries to use "teen talk", the words are probably already unfashionable.
