In a small village in Sichuan, 19-year-old Yin Qiuhua, a girl with Down syndrome（唐氏综合征）, has an amazing skill—Sichuan opera face-changing.

Yin faced many challenges because of Down syndrome. With her 61. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} help, Yin learned how to take care of herself. She started with small tasks such as dressing, washing her face and brushing. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} teeth.

Yin's journey to face-changing performance {#blank#}3{#/blank#} with a chance opportunity. Once Yin took part in a local Sichuan opera performance training. The troupe master discovered that Yin had more passion（激情）for Sichuan opera and a {#blank#}4{#/blank#} understanding of face-changing than many people. So he began to {#blank#}5{#/blank#} teach Yin the art of face-changing and Yin showed an amazing learning ability.

The process of learning face-changing {#blank#}6{#/blank#} hard, but Yin never gave up. She woke up early every day to {#blank#}7{#/blank#} and practice every step of face-changing. Her efforts paid off and within a few {#blank#}8{#/blank#}, she was already able to skillfully transform several different facial masks（面具）.

Yin's first stage performance was a big success. Her skilled movements and rich expressions were as {#blank#}9{#/blank#} as those of Sichuan opera actors. Yin has proven with her actions that in the face of difficulty, as long as there is passion and perseverance（毅力）, one can always {#blank#}10{#/blank#} his own piece of sky.

Chinese writer Hai Ya's The Space-Time Painter won the Hugo Award(雨果奖)for Best Novelette(中短篇小说)on Oct. 21st. He became the third Chinese writer to win a Hugo Award after Liu Cixin and Hao Jingfang. 

When creating The Space-Time Painter, Hai Ya drew his idea from a famous painting, A Panorama of Rivers and Mountains(《千里江山图》). It was created by Wang Ximeng from the Song Dynasty. Based on Wang, Hai created a painter named Zhao Ximeng. After many hard times, Zhao's mind leaves his body and enters a space where a modern policeman is trying to solve a case(案件)about an ancient painting. 

Hai Ya's story with science fiction began in his childhood. "When I was a child. the bookstore in my hometown helped create a beautiful garden in my mind that belonged to me only. In it, science fiction offered the most beautiful'flowers';it opened a new world for me as a kid, "Hai Ya told Beijing Youth Daily. 

Hai Ya's works feature a mix of history and science fiction. These two styles seem opposite:One looks back at the past, and the other faces the future. However, in Hai Ya's works, they find a perfeet balance. 

"If we can only imagine the future and things in space like rockets, it will only limit our imagination, "Hai Ya told Shenchen Special Zone Daily. "I don't think history is something completely in the past. It is flowing(流动的), and we can make predictions about the future by looking back at history.  ▲ , "he added. 

More Chinese writers today are trying to mix traditional culture with modern stories. Hai Ya believes that it is not a choice but a natural process. "Our history and culture have universal values(普世价值)that can touch everyone, "he said to Xinhua.

①Sixty-two-year-old American Brian Linden wears many hats: traveler, businessman, educator, writer, and founder of the Linden Center hotel(Xilinyuan Hotel). Having lived in a village in South China's Yunnan province for nearly twenty years, he now considers himself as one of the"cool new Dali people".

②Born and raised in Chicago, Linden first visited China in 1984. He received a scholarship(奖学金) from the Chinese government and came to study in Beijing. During his stay, he was deeply attracted by Chinese culture and would love to be its communicator.

③After working and traveling in over 100 countries, he gave up his job in the US, sold his house and moved to China with his wife and two sons in 2004. He wanted to find a place and create a new lifestyle. After a tour around China, Linden and his wife finally chose Xizhou, which is not far from Dali. "It is a beautiful place with hundreds of old buildings from the Ming and Qing dynasties. Actually I'm a fan of China's traditional buildings. Traditions here remain as alive as ever and the local people treat me like family. I immediately fell in love here," said Linden.

④With the help of the Dali government, Linden spent all his money repairing a traditional Bai-style house into a hotel for foreign tourists. Now the house is known as Linden Center hotel. It provides international education projects for European and American schools. It also opens 50% of its space to the public, creating a place for more people to communicate with the villagers. It offers free English classes to villagers once a week.

⑤When talking about his future plans, Linden said he wants to do more to share with the world the beauty of China. "Our goal is to turn Xizhou into a window for foreigners to learn about China," said Linden. "I hope that through my efforts, more people can love China."
