It was about two o'clock in the early morning {#blank#}1{#/blank#} 21 September, 1999. Tommy was sleeping when the earthquake started. He felt a slight shake, then he {#blank#}2{#/blank#} a loud noise like thunder. Soon the real noise came, like bombs under the ground. The earth started to {#blank#}3{#/blank#} . People screamed in fear. Some ran out of the building. He tried his {#blank#}4{#/blank#} to run out too, but he couldn't.

Outside, people were running in all directions while pieces of glass and bricks were falling down. Then the {#blank#}5{#/blank#} began to come down too!

Finally, the noise and shaking ended. It was dark and silent around him. He could not see anything at all, and he did not know if anyone else was near him. He felt {#blank#}6{#/blank#} and his heart was beating fast. A moment of fear went through his mind, but he told {#blank#}7{#/blank#} to calm down since he was still alive. He shouted for {#blank#}8{#/blank#} , but no one came. He started to move slowly in the darkness. Luckily, there was just enough space for him to move.

Hours later, Tommy heard {#blank#}9{#/blank#} noise above him. He screamed, "Help! Please help! I'm here!" Then he heard shouts from excited people. They {#blank#}10{#/blank#} moved away the bricks. At last, Tommy was safe.

Last summer, Sam went to a river to catch fish with his friends near his home. They had great fun walking in cool running water to catch the small silver fish.

Before going to the river, Sam found a bag first. As soon as he reached the river with his friends, they took off their shoes and socks and put their feet into the running water. It was so cool. Walking carefully, Sam looked for the right place where the fish shone. Often Sam fished with his friend and it was easier. But this time Sam fished by himself because he wanted to have a try. Taking two corners(角) of the bag, he stood in the water and slowly put the bag down to the river. Little by little, he put it down to the bottom(河底) . Then he waited, not making any sound, or moving a bit. When the fish went above the bag, Sam moved the bag up quickly and carefully. He got it. The bag was full of little silver fish.

But the greatest fun was not just in catching the fish, but also in letting them go back into the river to go on their natural lives. Sam put down the bag into the river, and the small fish swam off. Other children would also do the same and let the fish go away.

My dad bought me a new Jeep when I was 17, but the real gift was what he  taught me about life through this car. Every month, on the first day, he asked me  to pay him $150 if I wanted to continue driving my Jeep. If I didn't pay, I  couldn't drive my car〔or "his car", as he often reminded me, since he owned the title (所有权). My dad was (and still is) a successful businessman, who makes a very good living. To a 17-year-old student who only had a part-time weekend job, $150 was more  than  I  usually  made  every  month.  I  had  to  work  harder.  Although I was unhappy about my father's request, I always made sure to give him $150 on the first of each month, and did so for two years.

The day I graduated from high school, my dad pulled me into his office at our house for a talk. "Kevin," he gave me a white box and said, "here is your graduation present. To be honest, this is actually a present you gave yourself." I opened the box carefully, and almost started crying when I realized he just gave me $3,600! It was 24 car payments that he had saved for the last two years. Every payment I gave him went straight into this box. By requiring me to pay him every month, he was teaching me how to save, how to use my money and how to be responsible (有责任心的). My dad is and will forever be the best man I have ever known.

Four years later he gave me the title to the Jeep, as my college graduation present.

 It took me a week to read Robinson Crusoe. The book is amazing. It is about a man who lived· alone on an {#blank#}4{#/blank#}, but he did not give up his hope. He cut down trees and {#blank#}5{#/blank#} a house and learnt to grow fruit and vegetables. {#blank#}6{#/blank#} he went back home successfully.

I haven't finished reading Harry Potter because · it is too long. But I have {#blank#}9{#/blank#} some of the Harry Potter movies. I think the movies are much {#blank#}10{#/blank#} interesting than the books.
