China is a large country.  Each different region of China has 1 own special forms of traditional art.    They usually try to show the things which are important in life, such as love, beauty and family.  According to Chinese history, sky 2 were first used by Zhuge Kongming.  He sent them out to ask 3  help when in trouble.  They are made of bamboo and covered with paper. When the lanterns are lit (被点亮), they slowly rise into the air like small hot-air balloons for all to see.  They are seen as bright symbols of happy wishes and good luck. 

Paper cutting 4 around for over 1500 years.  Paper cutting sounds very easy, but it can be difficult to do.  Among all kinds of paper cuttings, 5 ones are flowers and animals.  During the Spring Festival, they  6  on windows, doors and walls as symbols of wishes for good luck and a happy new year. 

Chinese clay art is very famous around the world. 7 the clay pieces are very small, they look very real.  The pieces are usually cute children or lively characters from 8  Chinese fairy tale or a historical story.  The pieces are 9 shaped by hand from a very special kind of clay and then sent to air-dry.  After drying, they are fired at a very high heat.  They are then polished and painted.  It takes several weeks 10 everything.  These small pieces of clay show the love that Chinese people have for life and beauty.

When Jim was a child, his mother often told him to be careful not to eat too much sugar or he would have a {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (牙痛).Besides, his mother told him that he {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(必须) wash his hands before meals to prevent many {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(疾病).

Mary's mother always takes care of Mary well. For example, when Mary had a cold and {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(咳嗽) day and night, her mother took her {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (温度) first. And she checked if she had a {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(发烧). Then she would send her to hospital if necessary.

Teddy bears

Children everywhere love toy bears, and people have been making them for hundreds of years. They also like stories about young bears. Three of the most famous storybook bears are Rupert Bear, Pooh Bear, and Paddington Bear, and most children in Britain and America also know the story Goldilocks and The Three Bears. At the moment so many children and adults too like toy bears and there are shops that sell only toy bears of all kinds. 

Many people call toy bears "Teddy" although this name has been used only since the beginning of the 20th century. The word "Teddy" comes from Theodore and a man called Theodore Roosevelt was the president of the United States from 1901 to 1909. Because people liked him very much and they called him Teddy, and because he had a toy bear, they called their own bears Teddy, too. 

Poems for Children is a book of poems. These poems were chosen by the poet Julie Waters and they carry children on a wonderful journey of poetry.

The book contains 50 poems which were written by poets from many different countries. There are poems old and new from W.B. Yeats. Robert Louis Stevenson, Waller de la 'Mare and many other famous poets around the world. You can find poems about joy, humour, beauty and mystery.

This book is a treasure because Waters has chosen some really fine poems. There are short ones like The Parkby James S. Tippett and Until I saw the sea by Lilian Moore, together with longer ones like Kept Busy by Joanne Bums and The Explosion by Philip Larkin. They create wonderful images in the reader's mind and tell a story. Children can learn how beautiful and musical the English language can be when they read the poems aloud.

Another part of the book which makes it attractive is Charlotte Green's introduction. It teaches children how to read and appreciate （欣赏）poems. Green uses simple words so children can understand them easily. This is a must- read for both beginners and advanced learners of poetry.

Have you heard of the International Day of Friendship? Actually, it isn't a public holiday, but a UN observance (纪念). The UN hopes t{#blank#}1{#/blank#} the friendship between people from different countries will bring peace all over the world. They also want {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (创造)a day to teach the young to know the importance of understanding among different countries.

So on July 27th in 2011, the United Nations {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (通过) a resolution (决议) to make July 30th the International Day of Friendship. {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (自……以来) then, people around the world have celebrated it in many ways.

Here is a recipe:

Ingredients: 2 potatoes; 1 egg; 2 spoons of flour (面粉); 3 spoons of vegetable oil (植物油); 1 spoon of salt.

Instructions:

*Peel the potatoes and cut them up. Cook them for 20~25 minutes and then put them into a bowl.

*Break the egg into the bowl. Also add the salt and flour to it.

*Mix them all up.

*Put the pan (平底锅) on the gas cooker (煤气灶) and turn on the gas cooker.

*When the pan is warm, pour the vegetable oil into it.

*Then pour the mixture in the bowl into the pan when the oil is at a high temperature.

*Turn it over from time to time. Bake (烘焙) it for about five minutes.

*Finally, you can enjoy it.
