There were once two doors in the same house. One was a beautiful living-room door, and the other was just a/an 1 bathroom door.

They both had terrible lives. The house was full of 2 children who were always slamming (摔门) and kicking the doors. Each night, when everyone was asleep, the doors would talk about their poor 3 . The living-room door was always ready to shout with anger, but the bathroom door would calm him down, saying, "Don't worry. They're children. They'll soon learn. Wait and things will 4 ."

And so the living-room door would calm down for a while. But one day, after a big party and much slamming and kicking of the doors, the living-room door 5 lost his temper and became very angry, saying, "That's enough! The next time someone slams me, I'm going to 6 , and they'll learn how important I am." The next day, the first time he was slammed, the living-room door broke.

This caused great 7 in the house, and the children were punished. But after a few days, the house owners didn't want to have a broken door. Instead of 8 it, they decided to buy a new one. The old door was abandoned (抛弃).

By then the beautiful living-room door regretted what he had done. For not being 9 enough, he was now abandoned, waiting to be turned into firewood. Meanwhile, his friend, the not so good-looking bathroom door, remained in his place, and the children were treating him with greater 10 than before.

My husband, Tyler, and I decided to raise a guide dog puppy (幼犬). After attending several meetings with Anina Green, the guide dog club leader, I eagerly signed up to become a raiser and patiently waited for the arrival of my puppy. Then, one day, Anina informed me that I would get my puppy on April 27.

That day, Tyler and I went to Anina's house. In the kitchen, we saw the puppy. Escort, sleeping on the floor. Holding him for the first time was magical. He was so soft and sleepy—and huge! Escort was larger than a lot of full-grown dogs.

We attended a weekly puppy kindergarten to learn how to train Escort. From the time we got the puppy until he was about 6 months old, he was on a leash (牵引绳). When we were watching TV on the sofa or brushing teeth, the leash was always in our hands. During the first eight weeks. Tyler and I mostly stayed at home, taught Escort orders, and held his leash.

The guide dog club is really like a family—a family with a lot of wonderful, well-behaved dogs. We traveled to various places together with these dogs. Escort's first group outing was a trip to tour the city museum. We also went to a shopping mall, a baseball game. a fire station, and the airport to practice going through security. With all the help from our club, Escort went from a sleepy little puppy to a dependable companion (伙伴) when he was 8 months old.

When Escort was one year old, he could walk with a perfect loose (松的) leash, follow our orders and always make the right choices. It was time for us to drop him off at the Guide Dogs for the Blind campus to go through more formal (正式的) guide training and get matched with someone who needed him. We had fallen in love with the puppy and couldn't bear giving him away. but we had to say goodbye to him.

When I see pictures of Escort with the woman he has been placed with. I feel very happy. It doesn't hurt that he's not with me—seeing him going on adventures with his new owner every day makes it all worth it. The thought that he will improve her life makes me very proud.

It's a warm Saturday morning. Julia, Mark and Tina are at Simon's house. They are not doing their homework. They are making1 for this afternoon. They2 get together and play sports on Saturday afternoon, but this time, they want to do something3 . They hope to help Mr. White.

However, Belachew Girma didn't always like to laugh. In fact, he wasn't very happy in the past. After his wife (妻子) died, Belachew Girma thought he would 4 laugh again. Then, someone taught him how to laugh. Belachew Girma started to know: laughing made him feel good. So he wanted to laugh all the time.

Belachew Girma practiced laughing night and day. The only time he didn't practice laughing was when he was 5 . Someone told Belachew Girma about a laughter 6 and he decided to take part in it. He went on practicing his laughing 7 . After laughing for over 3 hours, Belachew Girma 8 the competition. He 9 a world record holder (持有人)! He didn't have time to be sad or to worry 10 he was always laughing.

Belachew Girma wanted to help 11 by laughing. He travelled around the world to 12 with people about his experience (经验). To Belachew himself, laughing saved his 13 . Today, he finds poor kids and teaches them to laugh. When kids laugh, it 14 their sadness. The laughing makes them feel much happier and 15 . It helps make their lives better.

Belachew Girma knows: The more he laughs, the more others laugh too. By laughing, he expects to make the world a happier place.

It is my first day in Grade 7. And the first lesson is English, Mr Gough, 1 English teacher, walks info the classroom. 

To my surprise, be holds up2 book, The collected works of Edgar Allan Poe. He asks if anyone reads it. I put my hand 3 , because Poe is my favourite writer. He asks if I really know what the writer tries 4 in his book. Then I Share my idea5 .

Mr Gough is more than just an English teacher, because he also teaches me 10 lessons. Now when I sit down to write something new, I still think of him.
