I'm forty. I left school 22 years ago. I don't regret many things about my school days but there are a few things I wish I'd known earlier as a girl. So here is my list of three things I'd learned at school.

□As a young child you try many new things. If you fail, you try again until you learn. Then you start school where you are usually only praised for doing things correctly. So what happens? You stop trying new things in case you get it wrong. I always remind myself: I won't give up halfway until I make it.

□I always wanted to be the best and one way of feeling good about myself was to see how much better I was than others. There was only one problem with this. When I saw they were better than me, I felt terrible. Now I compare me with myself. I asked myself if I did things as well as I could.

□How much time do you spend worrying about the future? I used to worry a lot. Now I know most things you fear usually never happen. If they happen, then they will most often not be as bad as you expected. In 6 months you probably won't remember most of the things you worry about now.

My son, Kevin, loved wrestling (摔跤运动) as he was growing up. When he entered high school, he showed a lot of athletic ability. Even as a freshman wrestler, we could see the hope of his future, and he went on to improve each year. As a senior, he'd become the leader of a team that set an unbelievable record. Just as we expected, he went into the state tournament (锦标赛). 

Then he won four matches and ranked number one. Here we were, in the finals of the state tournament, ready to win our championship—we still didn't have a state championship when his high school career was over. 

Unluckily, his last match didn't go well! I felt terrible, and I was unwilling to accept what had just happened and unable to believe it. I painfully watched Kevin as he shook hands with his opponent (对手) and stood calmly as the judge raised his opponent's hand in victory. Then he quietly walked out of the gym. 

A few weeks later, I received a letter from Kevin's school. In the letter, the principal praised Kevin's devotion to his team, his respect to his opponents and his spirit of competition. After I read this, I cried. 

For years, I had watched every single match where Kevin had wrestled in high school, but I hadn't noticed all the outstanding qualities that his principal (校长) mentioned. I always focused on the wins. And when he didn't get that final win, I was especially hurt and disappointed. I'd failed to realize that Kevin was working hard to achieve victories, but always performing with character no matter whether he won or lost. 

At that moment, my son became my mentor (导师). He taught me that winners in life appreciate the pursuit more than the victory itself. 

One day, my father and I were in line to buy tickets for the circus（马戏表演）. And a family was standing in front of us.

The family had eight children. Their clothes were not expensive but clean. The children talked about the clowns(小丑), elephants, monkeys and other things excitedly. It was their first time to go to the circus.

The ticket lady asked the father how many tickets he wanted. He proudly answered, "I want eight children's tickets and two adults' tickets, so I can take my family to the circus. "

The ticket lady said the price. The man's wife lowered her head and there was no smile on the man's face. He quietly asked, "How much did you say?"

The ticket lady said the price again. The man didn't have enough money. How could he tell his eight kids the bad news? My dad put his hand into his pocket and pulled out a $20 bill and dropped(掉下) it on the ground. (In fact, we were not rich!) Then my dad said, "Excuse me, sir, this dropped out of your pocket. "

The man knew what was going on. He looked into my dad's eyes, held my dad's hand in his, and took the $20 bill. "Thank you, sir, thank you. This really means a lot to me and my family. "

My father and I went back home. We didn't go to see the circus that night, but we didn't care.

At the first Venice International Film Festival, there {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(be) no judges and no prizes at all. Only {#blank#}3{#/blank#} list of good films were chosen by the public. {#blank#}4{#/blank#} the Venice International Film Festival was first held, the government wanted to hold it every year. But it was cancelled for special {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(reason) from 1943 to 1945. {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(lucky), in 1946, the festival became active again. Now the festival becomes very important. 

Venice International Film Festival has provided a great opportunity {#blank#}7{#/blank#} people around the world. They can learn about other countries'. cultures by {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(watch) different kinds of films. Many movie makers send{#blank#}9{#/blank#}(they) movies to the festival. They would like {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(have) a seat in this festival. 

In 2009, Phil Lecomte traveled to a small town at the foot of China's Huangshan Mountain with his camera and backpack. After walking about 10 kilometers by the mountain, and just as he wanted to give up, the Frenchman saw a beautiful village—Tunxi. He fell in love with the beautiful nature there.

Lecomte lived in Tunxi for three months. Tunxi is most famous for its Huizhou culture street that has a history of hundreds of years. "I didn't want to leave here anymore," Lecomte said. His trip to China turned into a long stay.

He often hikes or rides a motorbike with his friends, away from the busy cities, to find hidden scenery (隐秘的风景) around Huangshan Mountain. They come to the fields by rivers, ancient (古老的) villages, and forests again and again.

Lecomte likes taking photos wherever he goes. Up till now he has taken more than 118,000 photos in China. Now, he shares these photos on Chinese social media (社交媒体). One of his favorite photos shows a little girl building a snowman in an ancient street. "The girl was me when I was little!" a young woman said excitedly after the photo was posted.
