We have lots of after-school activities. For example, we take school 1 every school year. Last month, my classmates and I visited one of the most famous museums in Shanghai, the Minhang Museum. As I stepped into the 2 , I felt a sense of excitement. When I went into the main hall, I 3 many pieces of ancient pottery ( 陶 器 ) on show. These ancient treasures had lovely designs in different colors. If you looked at them 4 , you could even read interesting stories from the patterns (图案) on some of their surfaces!

③The people ofLa Gomera, an island in Europe, have their own special way of sending messages from mountain to mountain. They use a whistled(口哨的) language called el silbo, which comes from their language . Spanish. Whistling can be heard within five kilometers, which means it can be used across much greater distances than shouting. El silbo can be used for all kinds of messages, including greetings and announcements. El si lbo is used a lot less than it used to be, but primary school students in La Gomera have to leave it.

④Did you know it's also possible to send messages without making a noise? This is called visual communication, and it includes the use of flags and even smoke. Long ago, soldiers along the Great Wall of China used smoke as a warning. If they noticed the enemy from their signal(信号) tower, they li t a smoky fire. When soldiers in other towers saw the smoke signal, they lit fires too. In this way, messages about the enemy's arrival could travel as far as 800 km in just a few hours.

Hi! I'm the Beijing-Zhangjiakou railway. I am one of the wonders of China. I was born 1 1909. I'm 114 years old now. The one who made me was Zhan Tianyou. He was 2 brave and smart man. He believed China should build its own railways without other 3 help. So he built me, China's first self-built railway.

At first, my trains used steam (蒸汽). They were very slow. 4 top speed was only 35 km/hour. Then, the trains started to use diesel (柴油). Later, electricity 5 by better trains. But it still took more than three hours 6 from Beijing to Zhangjiakou, Hebei. In 2020, the new high-speed railway opened on Dec. 30. It helped people travel much 7 than before at a speed of 350 km/hour! It only took 47 minutes from Beijing to Zhangjiakou. I was so 8 .
