A New Transporter

①My daughter's pet fish is dying. Recently I find myself spending minutes and even hours staring at the clear round bowl, hoping for another performance of its wonderful dance. To be honest, I am not a fish person. Compared with cats and dogs, fish can neither play nor walk with me. To me, they are just so boring.

②But every morning now, I tap on the bowl, shake out some fish food and carefully throw it into the bowl, hoping the fish can eat it with the least effort. I try to make the fish more comfortable. Yet there's so little that I can do. The fish just remains still (一动不动的) at the bottom of the bowl.

③"Come on! Eat something!" I say. And suddenly I realize that somebody said the exact same sentences to me before. Many times.

④I think of the banana pancakes that my mother would serve me every time I became sick and stayed in bed. They were my favorite treat and always made me feel much better. "Come on! Eat something! Your body needs to be strong!" My mom would always say. What made me even warmer was the idea that she would always, always be there when I needed her.

⑤Many years later, I tried to do the same when my mother became sick. She was only 61 but seemed to get weaker every day. "Would you like some green tea?" Again and again, I would ask, "What about some cake? Hot chocolate? Strawberries?" I gently encouraged her to eat because I didn't know what else to do. "Please, Mom! Eat something! Your body needs to be strong!" But she would not. There she was, lying still on the bed, with her eyes closed. That was the last time I saw her.

⑥The fish is still lying at the bottom of the bowl. I stare at it and suddenly a familiar (熟悉的) face comes into my mind. Then I say in a low voice, "Mom, ▲ ."

March 30th is the World Bipolar Day. Liu Tiebang, president of Shenzhen Kangning Hospital,introduced bipolar disorder (BD) to the public in an effort to raise awareness for the mental health illness.

Bipolar disorder, also called manic depression (躁郁), is a mood disorder which can cause a patient's mood to change from a very high to a very low. Manic symptoms (症状) can include increased energy, quick response, unusual talkativeness, a lack of need for sleep, high self-esteem and so on. Depressive symptoms can include less energy, loss of interest or pleasure, feeling worthless, low self-esteem and suicidal(自杀性的) thoughts.

Patients with BD are often misdiagnosed (误诊） as depression. Liu said that while someone is experiencing a manic stage, he or she may be unusually talkative, sociable and outgoing. Patients having these kinds of problems may not realize that they are ill and often do not look for medical care. On the other hand, patients experiencing depressive periods are more likely to be noticed.

"With the development of treatments and medications, the treatments for BD have become better at present," said Liu. "The medications are safer. Patients getting the right treatments at the earlier stage of BD have a higher possibility of recovery (恢复); or the mania and depression may happen again."

For patients with BD, in addition to medication, other methods such as physical treatments, psychological treatments, social support groups and crisis intervention may be useful for managing their symptoms and controlling mood changes.

Lost and Found

Last summer, my parents and I were planning to travel. We finally {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (choose) Shanghai. Shanghai is a large, crowed and modern city but it also has lots {#blank#}2{#/blank#} historical places. 

We comfortably stayed there for two days. On the first day, we went to Nanjing Road. There were many shopping malls and people, so we had to speak {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(loud) to make our voice be heard. We also bought several {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(ticket) to visit some places of interest. In the morning, we took {#blank#}5{#/blank#} walk along the Huangpu River. After {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(visit) the Bund in the evening, we went to the Oriental Pearl Tower. It is a famous place in Pudong and one of the world's {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (tall) TV towers. 

On the second day, we visited Xintiandi. We saw many modern shops and restaurants in traditional shikumen-style houses. The scenery(风景) was really amazing, {#blank#}8{#/blank#} we went back early. Because it was hotter than {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(I) hometown. 

The trip to Shanghai {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(leave) an unforgettable memory on me. I liked both the new and the old Shanghai. Two days was a bit short. I hope I can go to Shanghai again some time in the future. 

Taihang Grand Canyon National Forest Park is a natural wonder. It lies in the{#blank#}1{#/blank#} part of Huguan County. There are some sweet springs, silver waterfalls, clear {#blank#}2{#/blank#}and interesting caves there. 

I always remember the journey going there. In the early morning, we began to{#blank#}3{#/blank#} the canyon. At{#blank#}4{#/blank#} , the canyon was silent. With more and more people coming, the canyon became noisy. There were so many trees and we didn't know most of them. Some signs along the paths told us something about different sights. We heard the loud waterfalls far away from them. When we got near, we{#blank#}5{#/blank#} cool at once. The waterfalls were high and pretty. We also visited some other sights and had great fun there.
