    Cows do have best friends and feel stressed when they are separated. Scientists have found that cows are very social animals and that a cow always {#blank#}2{#/blank#}other cows. When a cow is with its friends, it feels relaxed, compared with when it is alone.

    During a breeding season, a male penguin will offer a small stone to a female penguin as a gift. If she takes it, they will become partners. When the female penguin lays an egg, she and her partner may carry it {#blank#}3{#/blank#}, because some penguins don't build nests.

    Crocodiles (鳄鱼) swallow (吞) stones. Crocodiles always swallow their food instead of eating it like other animals. They swallow stones which break the food into very small pieces in their stomachs. These stones may stay in their stomachs {#blank#}4{#/blank#}.

    Elephants use plants to treat pain or other illnesses. Scientists once found a pregnant (怀孕的) elephant in Africa who ate a kind of plant which was not part of her normal food. Four days later, she {#blank#}5{#/blank#}a baby elephant. The same plant was used by the local pregnant women.

① On April 25, 2024, China successfully sent the Shenzhou-18 spaceship with three astronauts to Tiangong space station for a six- month mission (任务). Among the three astronauts, Ye Guangfu is the mission commander (指挥官), with rich experience. 

② Ye was born in Septembe, 1980 and grew up in a small village in Sichuan. At the age of eight, his father died. Ye remembered how difficult it was for his family to make a living. Although it seemed impossible for him to try out to become an air force pilot at first, his love for flying and hard work got him into the Air Force Aviation University of China. 

③ In 2009, Ye decided to reach even higher and applied to (申请) be an astronaut. Becoming an astronaut, one must face many challenges. Ye even trained in caves (洞穴) in Europe where he had to find his way through dark and wet caves. This made him the first Chinese person to finish this training. Ye never gave up his dream. And his hard work paid off when he made his first journey into space on the Shenzhou-13 mission on October 16, 2021. 

④ Ye is always thankful for all the difficult times because they help him keep going and stick to(坚持) his dreams. Ye is really a role model who shows us the importance of strong perseverance (毅力). 

The Eco-house

Simon Dale didn't want to live in a city's apartment building. So he made up his mind {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(build) his own house in the countryside. He moved to Wales with his family and built {#blank#}2{#/blank#} wooden eco-house. With the help of his father-in-law, a builder, he moved into a comfortable new home after only four months. It only cost $4, 700 to build the house — much {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(cheap) than an apartment. 

The eco-house is made of natural {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(thing). Simon Dale and his father-in-law {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(dig) into the side of a hill and then used the mud and stone to make the walls. The floors are {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(make) of wood from the nearby area. There is no central heating system, {#blank#}7{#/blank#} there's a wood-burner and solar panels(太阳能电板) on the top {#blank#}8{#/blank#} can provide power for lighting, music and computing. Drinking water is from a nearby spring. The fri dge stays cool, thanks {#blank#}9{#/blank#} the underground air. Simon Dale says, "We try to live in peace with the natural world. " He has {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(certain) done his best to achieve that.
