Once when I was a teenager, my father and I were standing in line to buy tickets for the circus (马戏团). Finally, there was only one family standing in front of us. They had eight children, wearing old but 1 clothes. 

The children were standing in line, two by two 2 their parents, and holding hands. They were 3 talking about the clowns (小丑), elephants and other acts in the circus. 

After the ticket lady told them the 4 , the man's wife let go of his hand and lowered her head. The man moved a little 5 and asked again, "How much did you say?" The lady told him the price again. There was no longer a smile on the man's face. Clearly, the man didn't have enough 6 .

Seeing what was happening, my dad put his hand into his pocket, pulled out a $20 bill and dropped 7 on the ground. Then he called the man back, 8 the bill and said, "Excuse me, sir, this fell out of your pocket. "

The man knew what was going on. With tears in his eyes, he replied, "Thank you, sir. To me and my family, this really 9 a lot. "

My father and I went back to our car and drove home. We didn't get to watch the circus that night, 10 we didn't care. That was a meaningful lesson that I learned from my dad.

The temperature has dropped to 30 degrees below zero. But that doesn't stop the fishermen of Songyuan City in Jilin Province. Each morning, they get up early and rush to Chagan Lake with a group of horses. The fishermen use the horses to help pull fishing nets out of the frozen (结冰的) lake.

For centuries, those living around Chagan Lake have kept alive the tradition of ice fishing. They dig holes through the thick ice and use a huge net to catch winter fish in the freezing water. This special method has been listed as an intangible cultural heritage (非物质文化遗产).

Every year in December, there is a winter fishing festival, which marks the beginning of the winter fishing season. Over 20 activities are held during the festival, such as winter sports competitions, nature watching, and the selling of the first-caught fish.

None of the tourists at this year's festival would ever imagine that Chagan Lake used to be only tens of square kilometers in size. In the past, there was little rainfall and the lake grew smaller over time. Also, overfishing is one of the main reasons.

To bring Chagan Lake's beauty back, the government used a lot of different methods. They brought in water from the Songhua River, grew more plants, and kept the water clean. The lake now covers about 500 square kilometers, and fish numbers have returned to a normal level. Now, an increasing number of tourists flock to the lake each year to experience the ancient ice-fishing tradition.

The special event of ice fishing at Chagan Lake is sure to continue into the future. It's a hit with tourists, and the locals say that the life of Chagan Lake will only get better and better.

A doctor entered the hospital as soon as possible after being called in for an important surgery (外科手术).

He found the boy's father in the hall waiting worriedly. 

On seeing him, the father cried out, "Why did you take all this time to come? Don't you know that my son is in danger? Don't you have any sense of duty?"

The doctor smiled and said, "I am sorry. I wasn't in the hospital and I came as fast as I could after receiving the call and now, I wish you'd calm down so that I can do my work."

"Calm down?! What if your son was in this room right now? Would you calm down? If your own son dies while waiting for a doctor, then what will you do?" said the father angrily. The doctor smiled again and replied, "We will do our best and you should also pray (祈祷) for your son's healthy life."

The surgery took some hours after which the doctor went out happily, "Thank goodness! Your son is saved!" And without waiting for the father's reply he carried on his way running by saying, "If you have any questions, ask the nurse."

"Couldn't he wait some minutes so that I can ask about my son's state?" shouted the father when seeing the nurse minutes after the doctor left.

The nurse answered, tears coming down her face, "His son died yesterday in a road accident. He was at the burial (葬礼) when we called him for your son's surgery. And now that he saved your son's life, he left running to finish his son's burial."

My hometown Nanjing is in the eastern part of China.As the capital of Jiangsu，it is a modern and busy city.And it is one of the cities with the longest history in China.With the development of the economy（经济），it has changed a lot in the past few years.

For one thing, people took tramcars (有轨电车) to go out in the past. But now many people choose to take a subway because of its convenience (便捷). What's more, taking a taxi becomes very popular. It has an app on the phone, and some people use it to call a taxi. It may be much cheaper.

Besides，the building is different from the past.In the past，the tallest building in Nanjing was Jinling Hotel.It had 37 floors.At that time，the tallest building is Zifeng Tower.It has 78 floors.Different from the past，you can see tall buildings everywhere in Nanjing.

As for the environment，in the 1980s and before，Nanjing was full of trees，people paid little attention to the importance of plants and fresh air.Plants were cut down and the air got worse. Now, to improve the living place, people take all actions to grow plants and cut down pollution. The environment is getting better now.
